Your Team V Sharkies

1\. Brown
2\. Ryan
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Utai
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Blair
12\. Ellis
13\. Heighington

14\. Fulton
15\. Bell
16\. Groat
17\. Reddy

Brown and Utai have never let us down in the past with their committed efforts so IMO should be rewarded with a start before Reddy. No Murdoch-Masila, he was hyped up big time by Blocker among others but just doesnt seem to be NRL standard, too lazy

I think at this stage that is our strongest team I just think however that Tedesco will be there in the one jersey.

Brown to start the year with Balmain RE.

Groat has been very inneffective so far.

he is only young tho.

i'd like to see Junior Moors play a bit more first grade this year. it is hard for a bloke like Groat to cope with the rigours of First Grade week in, week out.

anywho, i'd go with

Teddy
Ryan
Ayshford
Lawrence
Utai
Marshall
Moltzen
Woods
Farah
Galloway
Blair
Ellis
Heighington

Fulton
Bell
Groat
Reddy

first month is about not giving away cheap points, and usually grinding out a win.
with that in mind i would like brown on the wing if fit enough.
utai on the bench with groat, bell and fulton.

Some very good coments in everyone's threat.

I like to see Tedesco start at full back

I like to see Brown start on the wing. Don't think we should have two rookies in the backline in round 1

The rest of the starting line up picks itself.

Bench

Fulton
Bell
Moors
Groat

Reddy 18th man

I like to see Moors given another chance in first grade. Played well for us in 2010 and from other threats played well for BRET in the trial games.

I think during the hotter months we shoudl have 4 forwards on the bench to combat the heat.

Fulton can play in the backline if required.

I agree that Mudoch-Marsila has not lived up to the hype at this stage. With Ellis spot up for grabs in 2013 it is time for him to step up

So you think that Ryan, Reddy, Utai, Brown et al, can run the length of the field for a try? I don't think so. On the other hand.

Sheens was never going to play Grant (who you are clearly alluding to) at the start of the year. So what if he can run the length of the field, it doesn't change the fact he may have other deficiencies in his game that are more important then running the length of the field. And from what i've read, he does have defensive issues. An area that Joel Reddy has him well covered in

I don't think that he has defence issues, maybe some positional problems, but he will learn. You cannot beat speed. Ken Irvine was not the best defender but he would be the first one picked every week. Uate could not tackle his Grandmother when he first started. How is he going?

These blokes should be given a chance. If not, why buy them?

Ive already named a side but Ive changed my mind. Im really worried about our bench. We have some good depth in our backs but its the pack that worries me. So here is my new team for round 1.

1\. James Tedesco
2\. Beau Ryan
3\. Blake Ayshford
4\. Chris Lawrence
5\. Mitch Brown
6\. Benji Marshall
7\. Tim Moltzen
8\. Matt Bell
9\. Robbie Farah
10\. Keith Galloway
11\. Adam Blair
12\. Gareth Ellis
13\. Liam Fulton

14\. Chris Heighington
15\. Aaron Woods
16\. Matt Groat
17\. Dane Chisolm or Tom Humble (who ever can play at hooker better)

Here are my reasons. If we start with Woods and Heighno, I feel Fulton will offer no impact. He is an 80 min player who will make 10 hit ups and 40 tackles including alot of the clean up stuff.

When we make our front row rotation (roughly 20 min mark) Galloway and Woods would come off the field to be replaced by Bell and Groat. In big games sides will do what the Warriors did in last years semi and hold back some of their players. (Hohoia, Mateo and Rapira)

And Chisolm or Humble will spend some time at hooker so that Robbie can either have a rest or play abit wider. We are lethal when he plays 1 or 2 off the ruck.

Ellis spot is safe for 2013\. 2014 it could be up for grabs if he heads back to the UK. A lot of football to be played between now and then though.

Having two young props on the bench in Woods and Groat won't work, and Sheens won't go that way either. You need one experienced prop out there at all times. Heighno will start ahead of Fulton. Can't see Chisholm at hooker either, he's a running 5/8, Humble would be the more likely option.

Willow that was our bench last year. The last game we played the bench was Utai, Groat, Woods and Flanagan.

That was last year, and trial form strongly suggests, and rightly so, that Woods will start with Galloway.

You need to remember we had Sauce & Gibbs starting… Woods would rotate with Sauce and Gibbs would stay on the paddock until Sauce returned, then you saw Groat interchanged with Woods.

I have to agree with you here Col. Most wingers have defensive deficiencies. I remember Phil Rothfield crowing about how Luke Covell rarely let his man through and was the best defensive winger in the NRL, but at the same time he'd be amongst the bottom five try scoring wingers because he lacked pace and strength to compensate for his non existent speed. A winger should be just about to able to score tries at will, speed and a bit of of strength is a prerequisite for being a good one. All the defensive technique in the world is not important when you can't score a try to save yourself.

I don't think any of our wingers are in the Luke Covell class when it comes to speed. The fact is Grant hasn't proved himself yet and has done nothing to deserve getting picked ahead of guys like Ryan, Reddy Utai and Brown

Utai is, he's slow.

What has Groat done to deserve to be in the team? Have I missed something ?

He was fine for a rookie last year. He was good enough then, why would he have gone backwards?
