all these people are so desperate for latu fainu...
reality is he may not be as good as Galvin...Ever !
We have a world class 6 in Luai
we need a game managing 7 for 2026 if they release Galvin
DCE would be the 7 we need

Really hopeful that Latu Fainu is the next coming of Isaiya Katoa but outside of a few moments, he’s a long way off that. Just needs to get back on the park and put some games together.

When I spoke to Latu on Easter Monday he indicated his broken thumb should be good to go from round 9 onwards but I imagine he's going to need a match or two in Cup to get match fitness .Then it depends on player availability
Even if he's the utility no 14 who are you going to drop ?
Even with our 1-5 when Skelton is fully fit does he replace Naden ?
Its a nice problem to have with someone with the potential of Latu waiting in the wings

I was thinking DCE for 2 years to steer the ship and let Fainu develop his game also and even suggested this a while back in another thread. As long as Luai wasn’t put off by it as he came here to be the main man.

However, I was listening to a poddy today with Matty John’s and Justin Horo, who is one of his best mates. He spoke at length about how DCE was actually a very ad lib player and didn’t play like a traditional half. He admitted things may have changed, but his experience with him was that he wasn’t a game managing half at all and played one tackle at a time. I think we have a bit of that issue at the moment with Galvin and Luai. Both of their strengths are running the ball and playing wide. I think this is why our attack, especially in our own 20 is really clunky and looks like chickens running around with their heads cut off.

He’s an outstanding player and seems to have that Cam Smith type of resilience where they don’t seem to age and actually get better with time. I’m just a little concerned he may not be the general we need. The only other experienced half on the market might be Adam Reynolds. Awesome player, great organiser and kicker, but he’s ageing quick and injured most of the time.

I would like to see Latu play 7 for 4-6 weeks to get game time and develop his skills first. In that time we can see where the top team sits etc..

not if we are still in contention, don't think he takes galvins spot in the halves.
Latu should wait and do what Pezet does at Storm, his time will come when galvin moves on in 2026 or if injury

Can’t wait to watch another game at Suncorp for the win! Last year we got monstered by St. George. I think and hope Saturday is different. Short turn around - hope we get up to Brisbane before Friday

It will be interesting how the surface at suncorp holds up. A lot of footy on the same surface I fear injuries will tally due to wear and tear it’s a recipe for disaster.
Personally I fear an occasion like this

think it's time to utilise Galvin as a utility player that can come in and play centre, half, back row and lock depending on what we need him for, similar to what he was training for last preseason. injuries pending I think that'd see Birdy relegated to Cup, but I think it's the only way to get both Latu and Lachy in the side.

1. Bula

+1 to this.

Happy though for Galvin to start at 5/8... But Latu takes his bench spot and gets game time.
Naden is proving himself a winger and not a center. Doueihi is proving himself a center... Only Tyrone May should disrupt our center pairing.

Skelton and Turuva on the wings and Luai's management has done wonders for our defense. ..

Yes but only partially agree. It’s all about Latu’s development to being our full time 5/8. How ever long that takes i am good with. But pond scum fits our purpose for now, but the ultimatum goal is Latu’s development.

Gonna be tough ....Dragons have an 8 day turnaround .....Tigers only have 6 days
Exactly the same scenario as when we played the Broncos,
They will be fresh and I expect the Dragons to throw everything into the first 20 minutes, Hoping we can hold them and finish over the top of them.
Will need a big effort for our boys to get the win.
