Tigers eye permanent move back to spiritual homes at Leichhardt, Campbelltown

Leichhardt oval has great history for Balmain fans. Not Wests tigers fans, some of our most depressing losses have happened playing there. How many must win games to make the finals have we lost there? It’s Balmains spiritual home not the Wests Tigers
Agree we don't win there.

Not disagreeing, but remember Wests Magpies won the Amco Cup in 1977. 7-6 over Easts in the fina//boilover!

... and Campbelltown is?

Hahaha sorry about that. I see a few people have numbers after their user names on here and I assume it’s their birth year and that makes me feel old haha.
I’ll have to watch the replay of that game one day. It’s a shame we dont have anything like that these days but understand why.
I recently read that the city cup which was held in the early years of the competition was seen by many as more prestigious than the actual premiership which I found interesting.

LO is the best. Best viewing of the game. I'm not there to sink piss .

Don't like cambo, can't see too well at the Hill, cheaper seats are ridiculously close to each other.

Not sure about the expensive seats, Don it once and think it's better, near half way line and stands but are $$$$.
Not sure about best viewing at LO. If it gets over 12k you can't see the east sideline if you on the hill. And that bloody sun.
I know people love it because that where they grew up going to the footy but it isn't 'the best' in any category when rating football grounds.

Pretty

Be4 covid you could get there early and standup over the otherside off the hill, best viewing. Hill has its spots too. Its about being as close as possible like it was at junior football that I love best. Smell of the grass and a BBQ. Big stadiums is not what the games about for me.

Where Wests Tigers usually play the lowest drawing out of town teams and also feature some of the worst game time allocations like 6pm on a Friday night when no one can actually get there.

However, having said that, it is in high growth area with good public transport, freeway access and easy parking with a leagues club right next door.

Apart from having a huge local juniors area Campbelltown Sports Stadium has lots of room for expansion and re-development and would probably be one of the easiest suburban grounds to actually do something with.

If Wests Tigers committed to playing a substantial number of their home games there it would contribute greatly to a fairly high utilization of the ground, especially when A league and other local sports are taken into account and this could easily justify the costs of redevelopment.

Any bites?

No one is denying it has a lot to go for it in the future …and already does.
Doesn’t change the fact it is unpopular with fans and corporates.

Sounds like it's not too unpopular with the major sponsor who came out and said that Campbelltown was our future.

Have to admit that the games allocated to Campbelltown are not the best. The most important thing is that we need to find a way to win.

All depends what you want out of the experience. I like Leichhardt, Brookvale and Kogarah Ovals because they all have the hill experience.

We've had some miserable losses at all the grounds.

The worst of all being the loss at Leichhardt in Tommy's tribute game. Every player should have been demoted after that insipid effort.

Yeah that was depressing. I left my overdue wife at home for that one, she was off me that afternoon 😂
