Russian invasion of Ukraine

On a side note, why is it when you disagree with someone's opinions - they immediately claim you have been brainwashed with main stream media? I've noticed it more than usual lately, especially with the impending Australian elections.

It is sort of like a backhanded offensive slap in the face suggesting you are too dumb to do your own research, sort fact from sensationalism and behave like sheep......all because you dare to disagree.

Anyway, now back to our regular transmission.................

* 5 weeks ago.
* 10,000 additional incl 449, shev, tpvs
* visas processed in tranches and the Afghan cohort is one of the absolute most challenging cohorts to process visas for, add to that covid restrictions make it a nightmare. You got RATs for them to get tested? Do you have yourself a passport? ID? Not everyone is as lucky as you are man
Long 5 weeks as it was January 21. From Rob Harris of the SMH online of that day below, with the key words highlighted that show they are not actually additional places, rather prioritised to Afghans

"Mr Hawke said the increased allocation includes 10,000 places for Afghan nationals within Australia’s existing humanitarian program and at least 5000 visas within the family stream."

Anyhow, let us hope that instead of just more spin, that our government create real places for those that we send troops or arms to protect, instead of simply taking the places of others in camps for years having also fled similar destruction.

There was no invasion because the Soviets correctly abandoned their ballistic missile and nuclear plans on Cuba after being threatened correctly with WW3 by the Americans. The Russians had no right to be trouble making there.

Difference here is Russia didn't ask Ukraine a sovereign state to give up it's aspirations but they asked the U.S. to apply a permanent veto on Ukraine's membership as part of a negotiated plan.

The Americans didn't go as far as the Soviets in 1962 in reverse.

Their line was "I don't respect anybody's red lines "

U.S. exceptionalism.

Not sure if anyone has read this but it’s one of my all time faves. It’s only 100 pages but yeah great insight into to Cuban crises. But then again I’m a fanboy of Bobby and jack

I can’t speak for hawke eye but when the evac happened staff were working ridiculous hours man. 3/4am processing

If you want to help mate there’s a great initiative called CRISP I encourage you to register!
I want to put up flood victims in my half utilised home right now and was discussing such the other night. Sadly though, I had to consider and was subsequently advised that the mental health issues of and between my wife and son were too great to enable such.

You dont need hypotheticals. There is a hostile communist country immediately adajcent to the US (less that 200km) that has in the past installed soviet ballistic missiles. This country has a history of mistreatment of US citizens and its own citizen.

Remind me of how many Cuban cities the US have bombed?
I don’t think you could call Cuba “hostile “

The Cubans had every right imo to install weapons for their self defence after the BOP fiasco.l which was organised by Dulles and the cia not to mention operation Northwoods!

And I am the BIGGEST Jfk and rfk fanboy out there.

My family and friends are giving me daily reports of what is going on in the neighbouring eastern euro nations which are being flooded with Ukrainian refugees. They are all wanting to go back as soon as they can. I dont think it will be like Afghaniis, Iraqis or Syrians. Ukrainians want to go back
From a political standpoint I’d like to think our noble PM would want to be seen as taking some sort of action to help- especially considering the importance for him this year. Actually it would be odd if he didn’t offer some sort of ref & hum aid don’t ya think?

It’s a wrinkle on the True Scotsman argument. If the reporting is against their “narrative” it’s shoved in the MSM bucket and therefore is “false”. This doesn’t stop the same people using these sources when it suits them. Plus the label is so imprecise so that what constitutes “MSM” varies as it suits their agenda. Of course the wide range of media (yes even now) from the Murdoch press and Sky Australia to the Guardian and everything in between including the ABC, Nine/Fairfax, Seven West, Reuters etc means the idea they’re participating in a coordinated information campaign is absurd.

I apologise for participating in taking things off track a bit, just saw the initial bit on refugees and got a little angry in the current circumstances.

I have been trying not to be political, but in the context of the 'fog of war' and dis/misinformation effects that are being discussed, I couldn't let my disgust of our government's announcements to trick and/or deflect "go through to the keeper" on this occasion.

Edit: I can understand the MSM misinformation angle on the above though. The PM gets up on a rostrum, delivers his spiel of additional this and that with the minister alongside and the media echoes the select quotes in prime time without critique.

I must admit our PM does a lot of talking and making promises and next to nothing in action.

Of course, my point being however most of these refugees think they are going back soon and therefore Im not sure how many of them would put their hand up for Australia

Good points Trent but let me put it in mostly your own words....

I don’t think you could call Ukraine “hostile “

The Ukrainians had every right imo to ask for NATO membership for their self defence after the 2014 Invasion and annexure of Crimea which was organised by Putin not to mention operation Georgia and Khazakstan!

Well put

Suppose they should have/could have signed the Minsk A not sure why they didn’t perhaps they didn’t like the terms

Putin has shown that these agreements arent worth the paper they are written on....Budapest Memorandum

It will be OK soon.

Albanese will be voted in as Prime Minister and the climate will be instantly repaired, refugees instantly homed and healthy, submarine contracts cancelled and money refunded to help the needy, flood victims will be instantly paid hundreds of thousands to repair homes etc, there will be no raping, attempted or otherwise of women and they will be treated with respect......all will be fixed. You go onto twitter or even this forum, and thats what many are suggesting. Must be true.

So it will all be OK soon, no issues.
