Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That’s thing thing though. How many times in the last couple years have we put in a big effort where we have nearly rolled a premiership heavyweight which gets you to believing that it’s a turning point, only to come out the very next week and lose to a side down the bottom of the ladder. It’s a re-occurring theme.

Yeah we always seem to poop the bed against lower ranked teams. Maybe the strategy is to get to the bottom so there are no lower ranked team then watch us fly!

I was really disappointed with Benji's response last night on 360. It was was the perfect opportunity to respond to Kent's (very obvious) cues, and call out last Sunday's performance for what it was - poor. His replies reflect the club as a whole - '3 other teams are on 0 & 2', 'we have a new team this year and things will change', 'I don't know what the problem is', 'the tigers get bagged in the media more than anyone else' etc etc.
Love him or hate him, P. Kent is sticking it to the Tigers atm because he is hearing the fans and their years of frustration. I say the media should give it to us more!! At the end, Kent gave up on Benji because his responses were so lame, and Benji laughed at him.
The rotten culture has existed for over a decade and will continue to do so for a while to come.

Last week Benji was copping it here for not pushing the clubs case. Now he cops it when he doesn’t join the pile on 🤷‍♂️

Anything on new signings?

This thread turns into a psychology session after a few egos get hurt every few pages.
The psychologist's room is located next to the barber at the new COE. Members can stop by and
I'm not convinced there has been a rotten culture for a decade or more. I think we've typically fielded lower quality squads and we've managed our cap poorly.

I think this team now has a poor culture. On the flip side I think we have better players and we are recruiting well. I also think you can turn around the culture much more easily than improving the squad and cap.
The word 'culture' when referring to football clubs is crap anyway IMO. Winning breeds a good positive attitude and everything flows from there. Attitude is a more relevant word than culture, teams that never give up on the field and bust their guts every week, win lose or draw. That's attitude.
Some of these same teams have questionable behaviours off the field as well.

Weve been trying that on for years..You cant manafacture culture, its something that grows organically. The players are the ones that bring it not the coaches. Cleary is a good coach, part of the reason is, is because he knows when to take a step back. I guarentee you he doesnt harang the players for the type of music they play, how loud, or call a meeting when the boys get together and post photos with westside and peace hand signs ... Let the boys be boys
Absolutely let the boys be boys. But if they aren't turning up and playing hard for their club on game day they need a massive boot up the arse as a reality check as to why they are in a footy club to begin with. It's to play your guts out for your teammates, coach and fans and to earn the paycheck you are getting.

What the fella's get up to in their own time doesn't concern me. Daine Laurie's pitiful effort on a bouncing ball for Clifford's try was disgusting IMO, it was halfhearted, spiritless crap. That sort of stuff needs to be weeded out of our club before anything else.

And just on culture - shared values, beliefs, behaviours - I think in rugby league it is the coach and a group of players that start a culture. Whether that culture stays in a club depends on other coaches and other groups of players.

I think back to Canterbury’s “dogs of war” period. Nobody can say that the current coach and players at Canterbury think they are dogs of war. Canterbury were also once described as ‘the entertainers’, that’s not true now either.

We need a coach who can start a new culture - Maguire’s not him and neither is this group of players.
This is spot on.

I would say that this is not any different in the professional world. If your work team is habitually unprepared and underperforming and their manager does not have the ability to turn it around, this may be because none possess the requisite skill set and/or they simply might not be the right people for the job.

When confronted with the reality of the vulnerability of their position, everyone will feign loyalty and dedication, but because this has barely ever been evidenced, one can only conclude that they are most happy collecting their wages in their no pressure, no accountability job, while continually delivering poor results.
After years of being on the gravy train there has never been the dire need or condition of their employment to deliver results and as such, they most certainly do not want this to change, and will resist all pressure.

Ultimately, we have a serious culture problem and need to realize that we do not have the right resources. On the field, coaching, and unless they take action, in the boardroom.

If poor performance makes no difference, or your stakeholders are happy with the status quo, then it will be a tough sell to promote change. But if prolonged failure is deemed unacceptable and causes great discontent amongst your most important stakeholders, then the situation becomes untenable and if this is a responsible board, then it is their obligation to step in and take action.

Madge and his team, if reasonable men, should be perceptive enough to understand that they only have a short window, or the next time they meet the board will be under inevitable circumstances.

I like Kenty.

You can tell he has a soft spot for the Tigers and I think he's trying to get the frustration from the fans out in the media and convey that we suffer unlike any fanbase. It's the first talking head that I've heard refer to the fans who have invested so much of their energy over the last 10 years and that this situation, with our team, is different to other clubs' supporters. It's like someone, somewhere, kinda gets it.
Kenty lives in Leichhardt and is a WT fan….

This weeks game I would look at the warriors Harris Tavita to go with some other guys we need , he plays 6 and could be a great partner next season with Hastings moving to Half should brooks leave , I would use Adam in the centres
go after Nikora , Pele , Tavita , Simms / or Burgers from Rabbits
