Michael Maguire leaves club

Its funny how everything is laid at the feet of the coach when things go wrong, but high paid players with the reputation and hype mostly get a leave pass..
unfortunately they cant hide these days either,Stef was interviewed on WTs TV on the website,he stated that the poor performances are on them the players,""Madge gives us the tools, gameplans, structures and is always on hand to help and support us""...
So why is it that Maguire always is the one that has to go...? He is doing what a coach needs to do,but the players are to dumb to understand whats needed week to week and make the same mistakes game after game...
Sometimes I think that fans keep barking up the wrong tree instead of looking for the right one...
A couple of things really.. the man one is it's easier and less costly to get rid of 1 bloke.. The Coach ...than it is to get rid of 10 to 15 players..

Secondly is accountability for poor performance doesn't seem to be a thing.. Maguire selects the side and shows great loyalty to these guys that make the same mistakes over and over again..I would say if he made some serious attempt by dropping players and I don't mean to the bench or shuffling around positions on the field he may not get results either but I think the fans would be less critical of what he is attempting to do..

lay it squarely at the feet of the players, let them run the drills ,game day structures for a month,be a quick way for themselves 2 build team culture ,may even win some games with no one to lay blame on

This issue can't actually be resolved by Madge, or by the players.

This needs to come from Sheens, or if he's unable to do so, from the CEO.

There are no in-betweens anymore. Either the management side with the players or they side with the coach.

Given the last few times they've sided with the players and seen the results, I hope that they look at the alternatives.
Seems to be a disconnect when the coach is being middle manned by our ex coach. Weird chain of command. Madge reports to Sheen's and Sheen's reports to CEO/Board?
Too many cooks in the kitchen.

Paul Kent's claim that the roster isn't Madge's is complete stupidity. the bloke has been here since November 2018. every single player that has been signed or retained has happened under his watch. yes Cleary put us back a couple years but that is well and truly in the past. Madge has gotten the side he wanted and this is what he has to show for
Sheens knows Madge is almost certainly here only until the end of 2022 when Madges KPIs (ie make final 8) void his contract for next season at no/minimal. cost..to club
.....so Sheens will distatnce himself both from 2022 coaching and results ,but continue to recruit quality players to build around a committed core of Hastings,Douhie,Api,Papali,Mamalo ,Stefano next season, with maybe the odd junior or 3 hopefully) emerging.
Its yet another rebuild with yet another new coach inevitably, but unlike previous ,this ones already well on its way, orchestrated by Sheens in the backround, whilst Madge bats on coaching in 22 managing at times some calamatous results...again.After 4 years,Mostly of his own making btw
Season end termination of coach also gives us time to time to recruit Kristian Woolf, far and away the best coach in ESL for 2-3yrs now and wants to come home having done everything over there and a superb job with Tonga in World cup(and actually attracy some players rather than repel them)
It will all gradually fall into place, but weve gotta get thru another miserable year, plus work out how we offload under favorable terms (for us) the serial underperformers that really dont want to be here and are negatively impacting our culture and performance on field ..ie Brooks/Laurie/Noffa.,all whom have long term contracts(+ Joffa who leaves at year end,)
You can punt Peachy too..exactly the type of atitude we didnt need...and I doubt whether all 85kgs of Gildart is finding NRL a walk in the park and may return to UK at year end
Liddle will leave as Api has taken his slot..maybe Simpkin too.Neither are NRL quality
So changes are coming, but pragmatics of avoiding huge payout to incumbent coach ,hiring the right one when he becomes available later in the year, and removing dead wood from the playing group all take time
We'll see how good Mr Sheens really is in this hands-off rebuild role.Done great so far in attracting some quality players, but much more needs to be achieved, not unlike what the Dogs did
Good theory. Though I reckon it’s more likely that Woolf ends up back home in North Queensland and Payton ends up our coach.

Our game v Warriors this Friday is massive, it's do or die on so many levels.

If we lose, I think Madge's job is untenable. I've said it before that he should have packed his bags in the off season and Gardiner should have come in.

Based on Gardiner's Cup resume he looks like he understands the current team and our future talent. He doesn't complicate plays on either side of the ruck, he's focused on defence, but more importantly he knows how to use the bench. Madge doesn't.

I rewatched Tales from Tiger Town yesterday and I can't tell you how many times I cringed with Madge's coaching style.

Something needs to change, and it needs to change quickly. If it doesn't, make room for our first wooden spoon.

Great reply GEO and pretty clear summation...I do think Madge may not want to drop players 1,,for fear of upsetting the players..2,,not having strong enough depths to feel confident in bringing them into FG...
thats my take on it...but I think we both agree,it cant keep going with the team under performing how they have....

Absolutely not, I've been a Tigers supporter since I was 6, I'm going to be 42 this year and I will die a Tiger.

I'm passionate about our club, our brand and how we position ourselves as a force now and in the future.

Do you not feel the same way?

Well on the NZ Warriors forum they are pretty confident of a win. This from a team that is in spoon territory. Haha

Warriors have a ordinary side as well bar Tohu Harris and Fonua Blake.

Don't think Blake is playing.

Tell you one thing. It is going to be a ordinary game to watch.

Just reading Billy Slater‘s book, he goes to great lengths to describe the culture Craig Bellamy has created, it’s phenomenal, and is a coach who doesn’t complicate things, he demands the best from every player, all players buys into his systems, his coaching style and descriptions, make you realise why Melbourne are so successful- even when they lose a great player, he fill’s it with another player, and trains them to adapt to that role, great read ,a very different coaching style to Madges cringing tirades, which are not working, and outdated!

Yeah..Woolfes gonna be in big demand I suspect, and we dont have too many viable alternatives.Im hoping Sheens has already on the fone leveraging his links from yesteryear.
Were pretty stuffed without a talented fresh face leading our coaching ranks

I like Madge but he has proven to be continually poor in two things.
Firstly, and I think most would agree, he doesn’t seem great at his use of the bench.
Second is his unshaking belief in some players in the hope they will come good… and not being able to punish, or move them on, sufficiently when they don’t.
Fix those and he fixes a lot.

Feels like the WTs way is constantly trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Not sure if it's solely Madge's coaching or the squad or a combination of both.
The reality is that we're stuck with this roster (it has it's fair share of problems, with lack of leadership, balance and experience) and simply need to find ways to win.
Our coaching staff need to address the team's poor composure and communication issues, adapt game plans more suited to a team that cannot maintain a certain level or standard for 80s minutes when we're outmatched in most areas (size, class etc.,) - this is why most complaints are usually to do with our interchange use, as its often ineffectual in allowing us to play to the best of our capabilities.
Low confidence will always impact the team's effort IMO, so why do we persist with moving away from our strengths. It's clear we aint going to break new ground when we haven't even found any methods that maximise teamwork or each player's potential.
Not trying to be disingenuous but that’s literally a wall of text, and as @batboy likes to say, garble garble

Good post.

Sorry going through something right now, and I've usually been lurking more than posting - worried how the floods have impacted others - and despite the WTF not always being the most pleasant place it's been most comforting for someone that feels as stressed as me.
Even the silly squabbles on here are entertaining and bring me some type of joy. Thanks to @batboy @PJ @Demps @Merlot and @hobbo1

Thanks if your reply was (constructive) feedback on the layout of my posts, if it was otherwise some of you people sound a lot worse off than me (which is actually an attempt of a joke, if that's not clear enough).
