Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It’s about the position of the club in the context of culture; and by definition is affecting our results, that’s not up for debate?

It’s not opinion, so you’re being ridiculous.

You can’t argue we had a winning culture, you just cant. We lose too many games we should win year after year. Nobody on here will accurately tell you why.

Changing it…Bringing Sheens in was step one as our credibility as a club with players was shot. The fact it took 6 years is enough for Pascoe to walk in my opinion.

I realise I keep checking this thread every day in the desperate search for hope, praying that one of our 'insiders' can give me a nugget of information that gives me a reason to be positive about the clubs future. I was so angry on Friday and I realised a couple of days later it was because already after round 3 my hope for this season may be extinguished.

I'm not trying to be dramatic I wasn't expecting us to win the premiership but after a decade of mediocre results my resilience to such poor results is frayed. I've loved the Western Suburb Magpies and The Wests Tigers my whole life. Been a member since the early 2000s despite moving out of the area. We've never been overly successful but geez I'm struggling to see positivity atm.

We really need to see the club being aggressive in the player market. Api and Papalli are amazing but with Luciano and Kelma moving on its only a minor upgrade. When a possible young gun is available like Nanai we should be really aggressive in our approach, either get him or make it hurt the cowboys to retain him. Make the broncos sweat to keep Hass. Pele can't get a start, he should of been here before the start of the year, decent coin and a regular game should of sealed that months ago. If we can't see hope by performance on the field, give us some hope with recruitment.

I'm sick of the only positivity being non-football related outcomes. It's great that we aren't under financial distress but we are in Rugby League heartland, you should have high membership rates. I know its a process, I know it takes time but this administration needs to show clear football related progress or be moved aside.

To be honest i prefer little information being leaked by the club, the last thing i want to hear is motormouth Lee or Pascoe talking about us chasing players. Those 2 have a 0% success rate

Maybe one of the Brisbane WT brothers can get in his ear? Didn’t Mikaele play with him in juniors, Madge would be good for the guy too actually 🤔

I’d take Haas over the other 3 and call it a bargain, but believe me Nanai is more realistic.
How about Joe O?
Look we get someone like Payne HaAs in we then stand a chance. I just dont know how. Do we say 1.2M?

6 years (I dont think we can offer more)?

How do we get a player of that Caliber?

I provided you an example yesterday (Roberts). We ‘accept less than the best’ as a club. Doing a bloody doco in season is another example. It’s about compromising onfield success for other goals. e.g. financial viability , the opposite of us is ‘win at all costs’

Totally agree with you regarding Newcastle.they have a team willing to play for each other and believe in their coaching staff. They will put in 100% weather they are leading by 4 or down by 10. Maybe it’s to do with the 1 Town Team as they have a great following and their ground is hands down better than ours?.
Nah, we're better, we've got more grounds and we're all over town.

Once AD is back would love to see them run with
6. AD
7. Hastings
9. Liddle
14. Brooks: interchanging with Liddle at hooker, I reckon they would form a lethal 1-2 punch if Brooks could buy into his switch of position and role.

Or
6. AD
7. Madden
9. Liddle
13. Hastings
14. Brooks

Madden actually showed a bit of spark last week, wouldn't mind giving him a bit more time to settle in and show what he's got.

The common quote is that culture is what you do when nobody is looking. Colloquially culture to me has been the values and beliefs held by the collective. The standards that are set without a whiteboard, its a simple as making sure you get to the line during a fitness session or as complex as the level of belonging a team member feels under times of personal distress. But the evidence of culture is in the expectations the group has of themselves. Ours has been awful for years Nofa cracking the shits for being held accountable for rocking up to training hungover, players lamenting training intensity at sponsor events earlier this year, Moses Suli thinking its appropriate to sleep in his car during sessions, even Roberts and Laurie not understanding the optics of visiting licensed venues before a game (these are just obvious things off the top of my head).

Culture is everything you do, are you engaged in the directive of the community you belong to? Do you hold yourself to higher standards or to the bare minimum? Do you display alignment to the process your community is undertaking? Do you feel valued by your community? Do you care about how your community views you as a collective or only in terms of you as an individual?

Its been a long time since I've felt that the office, football team, fans and community was willing to do the extras required to be successful at the higher level. For me the values and beliefs I see is selfish and self serving, when Joel Caine came out and said two players had complained publicly about how hard training was, my first thought was Brooks and Noffa. My guess could be way off but my perception was of two people that had existed in a culture of self interest and minimal accountability for a long time. Our culture will improve when people are doing things for more than opportunity and a dollar.
