Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There is a general lack of good centres available right across the competition. Just doesn't seem to be a position that players aspire to play.
I think a posted about this a couple of weeks ago. If you look at Origin and International teams the centres are all fullbacks. I think the problem is the best backline players are usually end up at fullback because that’s where the big $$ are, and even wingers are seen as more important because they usually start your set from kick returns on tackle 1 or 2. There are really only a handful of top centres across the comp.

Having said the I don’t think Gildart is as bad as some are making out. He has shown some glimpses of what he can do but he needs to work on setting up his winger and on his defence. Let’s see where he is at the back end of the year. I think Roberts has been going ok too.

McInness is the one we missed
Finucane no doubt contributed to them also getting Hynes. Maybe Finucane went there because of tough players like McInnes? However it went down, they are playing great footy , leading the line breaks easily. It’s about building a team of strong character.

Their primary job in attack is to ice the big moments. They are not doing it. A couple of line breaks might look good on TV but won’t get us any wins. Much like it’s bad when Brooks grubbers the ball dead, it’s bad when our backs bomb good try scoring chances.

They already had some character and class there - Graham, Mulitalo, Ramien, Rudolph… great crop of kids coming through. Much more appealing for those guys.
if it had all gone down next year, we’d have been more of a chance I feel…
We just need those few high quality players to get rolling, which are there next year - hopefully we hang another couple between now and the end of the year…

If we had a decent fullback it would help, Laurie isn’t a good support player. As you say several times this year we make clean line breaks and there’s no support. If we had a Tedesco, Turbo, Paps or even Edwards we score 9/10 off those.

Our attack in general is just too stagnant. No players in motion, no support, nothing.
Too often the only player moving is the guy with the ball.

As I said though you are right about Gildart needing to ice the big moments, but that’s something that will come with combinations I hope.

1-5 have been very underwhelming, Toa was unlucky to be dropped as he had a good game.

Fix the spine and than fix the centre. Basically a centre is a second rower with a yard extra pace. The Pom has probably ran more yards in attack than anyone else in the backline. Okay he is no super star, but he is going better than a few of his mates in the tea.

As someone else said we need someone out there on the paddock and at training showing the way.

Our inexperience at hooker and fullback is another tale of woe.

Haven't had a decent centre since Simona and Lawrence.

Club has done nothing to address this... for years.

Just expect kids like AJ and Talau to succeed and then bring in Gildart who needs time in cup and expect the same.

Massive overlook from the club.
Can we PLEASE recruit some legit centres !?
Can we please recruit a legit board and management group for this mess of a club. ✌

Ok we need more grunt and a lot more pace , I know most don’t want lodge here again , but he has been playing good football over the last couple of years , he has a high work rate and makes good meters . Atkins is another who I think would be a smart signing .
