Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Players not getting to dummy half straight after HT, not chasing short kicks and letting balls roll into touch isn’t coaching. That’s effort areas and the players we have recruited just being awful.
It could even be a form of anti coaching in a way.

The squad is just not good enough with or without Maguire. Bulldogs spent a fortune on players we would be over the moon to have signed and can guarantee their supporters are screaming for the coach to be sacked - just like St George Broncos Newcastle Raiders all with better squads than ours and fans with expectations that arent being met. No easy fix until we find some way to assemble a better squad.
We're 600k under the Cap currently and have money to spend next year....but they cant find a way???

It might not be coaching, but it's recruitment. Madge has always liked effort players and has been the coach now for long enough that these guys are his. So the question has to be asked, if they were initially his "type" of player, why have they stopped responding? If they weren't his type of player in the first place, then why re-sign them or sign them? Its a massive failure in there somewhere and he can't be blameless.

Can't buy them if they don't want to come. Some think that's the coach but I'm not so sure. When you look at the performance of the squad and the lack of any key players in key positions would you really want to line up with them if you had other options?

They were all our shoddy club could attract. Where’s latrell, JAC, arrow etc.

They wouldn’t come here.

So apart from Sheens coming and a couple of assistant coaches departing, what has changed that would attract those guys now? I would say nothing. The same coach, the same halfback that can't orchestrate repeat sets and the same play all over the countryside footy club. I would actually argue things are getting worse as the club becomes more of a joke and a meme, the less and less attractive it becomes.

SPOT ON!!

Problem is - It's a revolving conundrum....
Can't sign players because there's no one to play with, So you're left to sign other players - That no one wants to play with...
We have a couple circuit breakers coming next year - But need a few more...

It's a mixture. Our coaching is driving players to not give a crap. Our coach isn't making anyone accountable & our structure is absolutely terrible, disorganised and getting worse not better.
When you don't have to be accountable some players will take advantage of it - which is clearly happening.

Dummy half was indecision & urgency. We actually had 3 players turn and look at each other.
Players don't actually know their role and that's because no one is organising anything on the park

Brooks isn't leading anything and is doing the Moses thing right now. He has switched totally off the last few weeks. On that play he was to the side, Gildart went to play the ball but then went back ready to do the hit up thinking Brooks will cover. Bet Brooks will still get picked next week.

Our wingers make errors with and without the ball every game that are costly but are untouchable

Our 1st 2 sets with the ball Liddle had to multiple times look, pause and guess who needed the ball. It also happened later in the game.
Joe runs it off several breakdown plays because no one was in position
We run decoy runners when the ball isn't even a threat to go to them wasting effort and the purpose of decoy plays.
Nofa/Ken involvement is lower because it's clear they are told to stay in position
Our high ball catching for some reason is all feet on ground to drive a (drop and play) rather than contest and push forward.
Our high kicks we just trott up the field in a line and put zero threat on.
If the opposition do anything we just line up together with zero urgency or activity.
When we have the ball we just pass like under 8s
Our forwards get the ball when it should go out the back
Zero straightening the attack
We have gone 2 and half games without scoring (I'm not counting a very lucky intercept)
Our only threat which we for whatever never use is through a cross field kick set play to Ken, we have zero threat in open field play.

I'm not saying our players aren't at fault but our coaching structures right now is terrible, the 5 leaders he appointed aren't leading & giving hope. So far the only one of those leaders who has actually shown anything is Tamou which is saying alot.

Agree with a lot of what you have said and IMO it’s inferior players giving inferior effort. Why should we accept an administration that gives us a crap team that doesn’t want to be there?

Harsh but fair!

Need to go for realistic targets

Aitken on one edge would be fine
Dufty > Laurie

I would avoid Sims based on age, but understand why we might have a crack.

Need speed desperately to, we need to fast track a couple of 19 year olds or bring it in from outside.

Games like that on the weekend make the prices of players we wish to recruit go up whilst the value of players that we'd like to offboard early plummet.

2022 was always gonna be hard, but this really hurts.

I'm sure that things will improve.

Did anyone watch Dufty yesterday....

He was lucky not to be hooked for a Prop.
