He’s a winning one thoughNah, he is definitely one.
I wonder how our recruitment efforts compare to this sort of thing. The Bulldogs had already wined and dined his mother Lisa at club legend Peter Mortimer’s winery in Orange a few months earlier in an attempt to lure the Penrith playmaker to Belmore.
Major sponsor Arthur Laundy also travelled with his son Craig to Dubbo to meet with Burton’s mother at the family home.
“I rang Lisa and invited her to lunch at the hotel we own in Dubbo,” Laundy recently told the Herald.
“She didn’t want to go to lunch, so my son Craig and I went around hers for a couple of glasses of water and a bit of a chat. I said to her, ‘I know he’s very secure and happy at Penrith, but if he does come over I’ll make sure that he’s looked after’. She’s got a mind of her own. I wasn’t there to convince her. I was there to purely tell her that if he was to come across to Canterbury, I would make sure he’s looked after.
“I said I’m purely there as a mentor. I’ve been a businessman a long, long time and I know quite a few of the ropes to pull. I just said to them I will make sure these guys are looked after. My aim – and I tell all these kids when I speak to them, ‘Bricks and mortar boys, bricks and mortar’. Don’t come to me with a nice flash new car. Bricks and mortar.”
We take them to Organica in Concord for anyone having lunch there to see![]()
Don’t sign with anyone else: Inside Burton’s defection from Panthers to Bulldogs
Matt Burton will on Sunday line up against the team he helped to a premiership just six months ago. This is how the Bulldogs lured the star away from Penrith.www.smh.com.au

Well it's not recruitment, but the Roosters are flying Adrian Morley out from England for a GF reunion. Our 5/8 or now H/B had to fly himself to the Goldy.![]()

It's not our style. Gould knocked back the Bulldogs on their first approach too, but instead of accepting it they pursued their man and nailed him. NRL is a cut throat business that waits for nobody. Kill or be killed. We are deep in the latter territory.Well he is going to be an assistant coach for the next 6 years if he stays at Penrith. He will have to be more patient than Fitzgibbon. I dont see him being that patient. Offer him 4 years subject to meeting certain goals. Do it now, before other clubs get in the race and we lose out once again.
Roosters don't have any Juniors that's why. Fitzy did get Hynes and Finucane due to his assistant coach work with NSW thoughOn that logic, don’t you think Fitzgibbon would of signed more than Ikuvalo from the Roosters?
100%. Those who want our club run like the local accountancy practice just don’t get it, more hunger and ruthless intent is needed as an organisation. Football isn’t played or administered by nice guys. It's not our style. Gould knocked back the Bulldogs on their first approach too, but instead of accepting it they pursued their man and nailed him. Exactly. Look how shocking Wighton has been since Sezer and Williams left. When he was left without a 7 his game as a 6 was rubbishI disagree with this. I hear so many say it these days and I get why, but i think it's wrong. While the left and right halves system these days and the way they interchange supports the argument, it fails to tell the story of the mental side of it, both for those wearing the 6 and 7, and the team mates belief in said players. For that reason I believe there is a world of difference between 6 and 7.
I don't think it's because our staff are full of nice guys but I think that many of our upper echolon staff are quite lazy. Same as our current players.100%. Fat pay cheques and excusesI don't think it's because our staff are full of nice guys but I think that many of our upper echolon staff are quite lazy. Same as our current players.
They have a state cup club mentality. Clueless on how to build an NRL club.I don't think it's because our staff are full of nice guys but I think that many of our upper echolon staff are quite lazy. Same as our current players.
Taylor did it to himself. We're the only club dumb enough to give him another head coach start when we did. He'd already cooked his Head Coaching career by being the worst man manager in historyA few?
We've done it to every single one of them bar Cleary....
He did it to us.
Pele and Nikora would be excellent acquisitions.
I'm not sure they're in that much of a better position than us.The Dragons and Dogs will be looking for coaches soon.
Unless those are crocodiles names I don’t think we’re in the hunt 😂It would be good if we chased Semi Radrada, Maika Sivo & Suliasi Vunivalu to try to land one of them, all looking at their options. Arghhh remembering the days of Lote Tuqiri carving up on our wing!
CHT is a decent player with a good attitude but just like a lot of our signings, unknown what position he is best atSounds like the warriors have signed Volkman from the roosters. To go with Metcalf, good signings. CHT anyone?
I think he's the perfect modern 14. Ala Connor Watson or Dylan WalkerCHT is a decent player with a good attitude but just like a lot of our signings, unknown what position he is best at
