Touche!

But seriously, I'd be bumping that up to 700K. Time to accept that we have to pay overs until we start actually becoming an attractive destination which usually starts with winning.

A forward pack containing Stef, Api, Niko and Paps looks pretty damn good.

Nikora is young enough and good enough to pay some sort of overs for but 700k+ we are getting into match winning territory which I don't think he is worth that.

I would prefer we give him a 3-4yr deal to sure up his security with bonuses on top of that. Doubt the Sharks would offer him past a 2-3yr deal. So extra $100-200k a year + an extra year secured could seal the deal.

Mate just a realist I think the club is in such a whole it's like South's years ago then they had the Roy Asotasi moment that is what I think the Tiger's need pay big overs for two of the right players 1 forward and either a 7 or a 1 if not just be a feeder club an organ donor for the big clubs

give him a dead line then we are not interested. look for someone esle. stop begging.

We are dead last, have 6 forward spots and hardly a line up of players wanting to come.
Currently we will be naming a rookie backrow rotation next year.
Giving an ultimatum to a player who is currently in a team winning & finals bound to join a team that is coming dead last is hardly smart when their is no one else to move onto.

This is where we see what Sheens and co are made of, the door is open - they need to seal the deal.

But it's very hard choice which way to go

bulldogs was in same situation. when theres money theres players putting their hands up. behaving desperate will only bring more bad reputation

My view based on the timing of Nikora's comments is it's a manager ploy to show the Wests Tigers a potential signing option if Madge stays. Ayoub looks after both doesn't he?

Only last week talk out of the shire was Nikora agreed to a deal. He is playing settled footy. He is looking at home at the Sharks. This week Madge changed half the side which isn't like him so something has been said to him. It's clear the pressure is mounting and his tenure at the club is running thin. Ayoub has been known to work us over in the past very very well.
The word out of the shire is Ayoub knows we are desperate for an injection of talent and is squeezing every cent out of us.
It wouldn't surprise me if there a coaching clause in there as well.

Depends on the quality of players you target.
TPJ, Vaughan, Dufty and a few others all have known issues on and off the field & were discarded from a poor performing club.
Mahoney, Kikau, JAC and Burton are good pickups for them from winning clubs.

We are targeting the right players - Api, Papa are brilliant pickups. Nikora is the right age & type of player we need. Nanai was another we went after ticking alot of boxes.

We aren't going after other clubs discards right now, if we snare Nikora it prevents us having a discard conversation for probably the same amount later in the year because as time goes on we will become desperate to name a side next season.

I agree that he probably isn't worth 700K at the moment but if we can manage to sign him and add him to the signings of Api and Paps, we might be able to build some momentum and generate a bit more interest for potential signings.

That's probably the best way to go re a 3-4 deal with bonuses but with how unattractive the club looks right now, I worried that offering overs might be the only way to keep us in the race for his signature.

I would give him the extra year, it won't be his last contract, he is 24. 4yr deal = 28/29.
If we all of a sudden have a starting pack locked in of Stefano, Api, <blank>, Papa, Nikora, <Blank> - locked in for the next few years, it's an impressive change for us.

He will be very hard for Cronulla to keep.

Reality is they can replace him fairly easily and they have tons of depth.

For THEM he is a $450-500 MAX player. Maybe less.

For US he has been offered 650 or so by all reports. We have zero depth in the backrow and money to spend.

That is how the cap / market works. He is worth way more to us.

The question for Nikora will be whether an extra 600 over three years is worth leaving a club who will likely be in the finals each year, have great stability and depth.

Also, he has a relationship with Madge...and Ayoub is very close to Madge.

But it would be very naïve to think Madge will still be the coach in 2023.
People keep plucking numbers from their ass. No way would an average Joe like him be offered more than Papa, API, Luciano etc.

Word was wec were offering about 500k which is about right, Sharks were low balling at about 350k. So an extra half a mil to join us. We may go to 550 at an absolute max to get it over the line

How do you explain to Papi and Api that he's earning more than them?

Briton Nikora has refused to rule out a shock move to the Wests Tigers, with the barnstorming backrower declaring himself still for sale after knocking back the Sharks.

Reported to be a done deal at the Sharks after rejecting the Tigers, News Corp can reveal that Nikora is still on the open market after knocking back a contract extension offer from the Sharks.
“That’s all in the hands of my manager,” Nikora said.
But I believe that is the case. He is looking after all of that, but all I know is that my future is very much still in the air and nothing has been ruled in or out.”
In a major blow that could force a recruitment rethink for the Sharks, Nikora’s manager Sam Ayoub last week rejected an extension offer from Cronulla.
It is understood the deal fell well short of the offers he has attracted from rivals, including the Tigers.
While he declined to talk about the offer, the Kiwi edge forward sensation did say that he would be forced to consider his financial future.
The Sharks signed Nikora for a bargain basement deal of $5000 when he 17.

“I love the Sharks,” Nikora said.
“And, of course, I would love to stay here. But I also have to think about what is best for myself and my family at this stage of my career. I have to consider what is out there. I really just want to stay out of all this and concentrate on my football.”
Nikora admitted that he could be tempted by a monster offer from the Tigers.
“I know Madge (Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire) from the Kiwis and he is a good fella and a good coach,” Nikora said.“I have a few things to weigh up but as I said, no decisions have been made and my manager will sort it out.”
Nikora said he will be available to play next week after missing the clash against the Storm because of Covid.
“I will be out of isolation on Monday,” Nikora said.
“It is a bummer I missed out on the game but I am hoping to be back for next week.
This is an "up your offer sharks" story....don't get your hopes up....he aint joining us...

The fact Fittler is the one saying it confirms what a piece of manure this article is,although i am sure the NRL will happily take it as fact with no questions asked
Sounds like The Cleary's have set up a Family Trust account or Self-funded retirement plan between them. So effectively Nate's salary sacrifice goes into his Dad's Super Fund and he gets to cash in down the track.
