Michael Maguire leaves club

And yet we have the Madge haters on here saying that we need to get rid of him because we havent improved in the 4 years he has been here....
classic example is last nights game against the dogs.....

Starford....rookie playing at FB but known as a centre....
Tupou.....rookie winger 2/3 NRL games
Ken M ....playing on 1 leg...
Naden....first game in our system...
Jock Madden....rookie 8/9 NRL games and 3rd string playmaker....
Nu Brown ....hasnt played NRL since 2019...would be our 4th string hooker...

OUT...Laurie,JTJ.AD.AJ.Blore Brooks......

And we should sack Madge after we win againsts a Dogs side with a couple out due to flu....
Some people should really look at what Madge is trying to due with this squad...
Take the blinkers off and fully look at the reality we are in atm......

I've been impressed with our forward pack but outside of that, we've got 2nd string players all over the park
 
The improvement in the playing group just goes to show how influential your senior players are. Every top team has their 'coach' on the field that promotes the game plan set out by the coaching staff. Hastings is our man. It does look as though Madge has allowed his assistants to take more control which is what is should be, 3 minds is greater than 1.

I see Madges (which is the Tigers) long term vision as having a squad of players selflessly working hard as a unit to achieve a goal. There were many personalities that were working against this and one by one they are jumping off the bus. (Lucy aside)

I agree we are miles from the good teams but only 3-4 wins from the 8 and who knows if we had a healthy squad.

Who did Payton have at the warriors when he got them playing decent footy. The bloke can coach. Every one of those guys improves under his coaching. Not sure I can say the same for Madge.
Agree with you on the challenges he has faced but a lot of that was bought on himself ie The signing of Bj.
Do you think if Sheensy wasn't here we would have new assistants or would Snoopy and Millard still be here. They were Madges picks also were they not. Dont want to keep beating up on the bloke as he is passionate and I want to see him succeed as much as everyone else but he needs to shoulder some of the blame of whats happened over the last 4 years.

Anything other than a comprehensive win against the Dogs is frankly embarrassing. We looked like losing it and Maguire and his assistants were calling for Brooks and Doueihi to hit the disposable undies vending machine for relief in the second half.

You just cant let go of the Madge hate can you Paws...if we had a fully fit top 17 on the field last night the win would have been very comprehensive.....With the half ressies side last night we did very well to win ....well done team and Madge....
Dont forget they had a good side with a couple of outs,good luck to us...
Their Roster is very pricey compared to ours...

I'm stating the obvious and not deluding myself into believing we can take many positives from it. Hopefully those in the club at Board level know this as well.

Appreciate the reply. I don’t disagree that he can coach rather playing devils advocate saying that the relative improvements between the squads are hard to compare.

As an example I wish Tigers had Taumalolo who initially regressed under Payton and is sucking up a huge amount of cap. Doesn’t mean Payton is a bad coach. I can’t recall anyone of Taumalolos pedigree that Madge had the benefit of coaching in his squad.

Also Madge has actually turned a bench player in Lucy into a consistent, damaging 80 minute 2nd rower who’s worth 750 a season (and doing so in a weak side). Ironically Payton will get that benefit now.

Risk benefit of changing coaches now I think we should stick with Madge until the end of his contract, at least this year.

I don't see any positives to sacking him now. I can understand waiting until the end of his contract to renew his contract.

We look a different team this year. I know we are still losing and I know we have to buy some players especially edge backrowers for next season. I also have some confidence that we are better managed now and our position on the ladder will turn around.

Fair points you raise. For the record I dont think we get rid of Madge this year either. The horse has bolted on that one. We had that opportunity last year. I do think though Todd Payton would be a great fit for our club and would love for Sheensy to have a crack at him for 2024.

Madge is well on his way to creating a culture that the Tigers have needed for over a decade. The team is showing a level of consistency and competitiveness that hasn’t been seen at the club in who knows how long. And that’s in spite of the side being decimated by injuries. Our recruitment is really picking up, and if Madge’s connection with AC lands him, we will have signed three of the best forwards in the comp under Madge for next season.

He spent the first two-three years being hamstrung by bad contracts and a toxic culture of laziness and players not being held accountable and having far too much say. Not to mention this season being the year of injury. He’s slowly clearing out the deadwood and laziness. Now if Madge doesn’t get results next season with the new recruits, then get rid of him.

I guarantee the people calling for a new coach will be calling for the same thing in 2-3 years if Madge is sacked. We have stayed a basket case after 5 different coaches for reasons that don’t have anything to do with coaching yet these clowns want to keep repeating the same mistakes. A lot of these people seem to also be thick enough to think we have a talented playing group.
 
I find this interesting by Brent Read as I find him quite reliable most of the time

There were many opportunities to sack him, most notably in the last off season. I'm not the biggest fan of his, but deciding to move on in this current period would be a really stupid idea.

Read say's there's "Every Chance" WT's will review the coach over the bye...

What a load of crap... He doesn't even say that we ARE reviewing the coaching situation.... Just that there's a chance we will.
