Morris did well at the Sharks while facing significant difficulties - the salary cap, the fall out from the whatever it was and identities with large egos at the wrong end of their careers. He made finals twice and I would be happy to accept that result.
Morris may have done well at the Sharks, but could he do it with the squad and team that Madge is running with at this very moment ?..
He could also come in if Madge is sacked and have no cap pressure, have Jacko,AD and others come back from injury and have the 2 best recruits coming next year, all after Madge has done the hard yards....not real fair in my opinion mate...

If you look at the trend line TT, we are on a nose dive for the bottom. Often you need to change things up to turn around your fortunes. Also, WTs have a great nursery as well and Morris was responsible for Sharks Pathways which has been a big success. He has a proven record of success with junior progression and consistent with Sheens' comments the other day, our salvation is via our young talent.

Have we had a James Hooper exclusive yet? Seems like it's the only thing missing

TIGERS IN THE HUNT FOR SOUGHT-AFTER COACH

The planets are aligning for the Wests Tigers to make a play for Penrith Panthers assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo to take over for the 2023 season.

The Tigers are currently undergoing a mid-season football department review six months after last year’s all-encompassing football department review.

Back then, it was Maguire’s assistant coaches who ended up getting moved on.

This time it’s the man who’s been at the helm for three and a half years who is once-again fighting to save his position.

Wests Tigers head of football Tim Sheens will be the man who makes the recommendation to the board about the best direction for the club.

Ex-Tigers player and Cronulla Sharks coach John Morris is the other name being mentioned along with Brett Kimmorley possibly taking over in a caretaker role for the remainder of this year.

The numbers aren’t great for Madge. The Tigers coach has won 11 out of 36 games dating back to the start of last year and only 29 out of 80 during his three and a half years at Concord.

The six second half tries against South Sydney in round 12 also came at the worst possible time given the Tigers had been approaching the Rabbitohs game like a ‘grand final’.

The Panthers are hopeful of convincing Ciraldo to remain on for another 12 months at Penrith but the Tigers job with a strong local junior nursery and some quality players in Api Korisau and Isaiah Papali’I arriving next year will be hard to knock back if it becomes available.

if the club wants Ciraldo, put the feelers out and make the call now. Noddy can takeover til end of season and Ciraldo has a few months to get things in order. a major issue with Madge jumping in after Cleary was that pre-season was a matter of days away. if we bite the bullet now it gives us time.

I know most of us have seen this. It’s worth revising because Joel Caine’s review of the Wests Tigers is as relevant today as it was 8 months ago.

PS. Ignore his assistant’s booger hunting, it bares no relevance to what’s happening at the club.

Get it done

Get it done

I can’t see Ciraldo coming unless he gets a 5 year back ended contract. He’s seen how Barrett’s venture worked. Cleary wouldn’t give us a wonderful recommendation.
Our ace in the deck is Tim Sheens. If Tim wants him he’ll get him.
Somehow, it doesn’t seem the right thing to do, to give Maguire the dirty work to clean up and not allow him to enjoy the inevitable success.

This is too important to get wrong and if there is no solid plan to Get a Gun Coach then we look like unprofessional again.
Those people I’ve nominated, I for one, consider them to be competent NRL coaches.

I agree with @stryker 69 that Toovey should at least make the last round of interviews.

Some folk here are talking Slater and Thurston who have never coached a team in anger. I respect their view but vehemently disagree.

We’ve had a lot of bears dancing on barrels, so I agree with your broader point, we need to get it right, but I don’t think I’m straying out of my lane with these suggestions.

The problem is that no one will know who is competent until they take the throne.

What we do know, as many students of the club will attest, is that for the most part our kingmakers and ancillary staff, excel in making extremely poor decisions.

If Madge goes, a number of officials should resign also. After all, they got us into this mess.

Otherwise the long and stormy night continues and the mirage of success that dissapears when we get closer to it, continues on in its heartbreaking manner.

It will be an interesting one with Ciraldo , Cleary has just signed on for another 5 years so no opportunities there, it's really coming down to us ,dogs or possibly the Warriors for any opportunity.

I would contemplate CC -but didn’t he turn us down before?

Ivan got his millennium extension so maybe things are different now.

Working with Ivan would be pretty horrific too.

Smug, slimy, dishonourable, no values, players leaving asap, a rabble off the field, supports perverts and he looks and sounds like a rodent in drag.

You’d have to be on some kind of mind numbing psychedelic to front up to Ivan every day…to keep you sane.

you have to be ruthless if you want success. look at the Chooks. same with the Sharks more recently. cleary is irrelevant in all this, ciraldo is smart enough to make his own decisions.

we currently resemble Penrith around the 2015/16 mark with the state of our juniors, if he wants a similar situation he doesn't have to look any further.

Hooper has it out for Madge, He has beating this drum for ages now.

I don't like the way over the years WT have sacked Coaches and for a long time wanted them to keep Maguire long term for stability, but given WT have only won 3 games, he appears to have struggled to adapt to the modern game, strange use of the bench and appears not to be able to attract big name players then to me Maguire has to go now and the sooner the better to allow whatever coach for 2023 to start looking at players now.

if Ciraldo can bring across some Penrith Star players and juniors then I would be happy for him to be considered for 2023 as Cleary is long term Penrith Coach so that limits his options.

Why wouldn’t Cleary give us a wonderful recommendation?

I bet he would. I think he loved being here. It was just a matter of coaching his son and being in charge of a top team.

If you were a dog with no ethics you wouldn't even think about leaving the Tigers for the Panthers.
