I hope he got paid out his remaining years in full pay he deserves it I honestly believe this job has taken a few years off his life expectancy
He's not even 50, but this job definitely sucked a few years out of him. I've seen pensioners that look younger than Madge.

Q
The Taylor thing was ridiculous. I only ever played devils advocate. But like anything, be it religion or politics, if you are not 100% on board with an ideology, the fanatics want your blood. By all means, dig up posts where I openly called Taylor a good coach. It’ll take you a while

LOL 😂

Head of football Tim Sheens explained the decision to part ways with Michael Maguire was about giving the club certainty moving forward to allow them to build their roster.

“I have had a good look at things over the last week and a half and where we were halfway through the season,” Sheens told reporters on Tuesday evening.

“Everyone loved to call it a review. I like to think it was a look back at where we were last year when there was issues about Madge being here.

This was before I got here. In the eight months since things haven’t improved and we are in our fourth year, so in real terms my recommendation was and particularly for this reason:

“We are as most clubs are looking at next season and the season after and our recruitment.

“For instance players off-contract this year in November can be discussed. Players off-contract can be moved straight away. Players that have got a year to go can be signed.

“I couldn’t say that Michael would be here in three years time or four years time for that matter.

“I have already said publicly that three years is the development period that we have got here. There are 17-year-olds and 19-year-olds at our club who will be very good as well.

“So we needed someone there who is going to be there. For what we do buying players for next year we need that coach to be involved.

“Otherwise we will get a situation where we shut down next year and if a new coach comes on board he won’t have anywhere to manoeuvre.

“It is basically this is the time in every club and the other two clubs that have also moved coaches are doing the same thing.

“You want to have a coach in place and you want him making decisions about next year’s roster.”

Sheens admitted Maguire’s poor win-loss record played a part in the decision.

“We are in a results driven business let’s face it,” Sheens said.

“We are a professional sport so we all know and I’ve been there myself. It is not always fair, but at the end of the day it is the reality of professional sport. So that’s part of it.

Maguire was at the helm at training on Tuesday morning and addressed the playing group after the club handed down their decision.

“Wests Tigers Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has today been terminated from his role, effective immediately,” the club said in a statement.

“Wests Tigers sincerely thanks Michael for all his hard work and effort over the past three and a half years.

“As this is no doubt a challenging time for all parties, the club would like to respect Michael’s privacy, wish him all the very best and will make no further comment.

“For the rest of the season Brett Kimmorley will take over as Interim coach.”

Maguire will walk away with a payout of $800,000.

How would you know when his missus was diagnosed ?
Just because it came in the papers in 2016 doesn’t mean shit .
It’s been commented on since by those in the know that he left after 1 year because of it .
But double down ,when you come across as a pig . It looks good .
Good post. A tragic event and an insidious disease. I know my sons' are without their mother because of it.

Tim Sheens to speak on 10 news now.

Sheens said Madge is a realist and knew he was under pressure. He also said we're all under pressure and he didn't get the results. Brett Kimmorley said he would start tomorrow.

Had to be done. Madge was the only coach who said at the time he got the job that he could get us to the semi with this squad. Well. where is it. It's a result driven profession. The results were not there. Club gave him every opportunity to fix it.4 years later we are 3 from 9.

I back the club for having the guts to do something about it instead of letting it rot and lose an new generation of young players. Who ever wants to go fine by me. That means they don't want to play for the badge and the club. we need players that want to die for the badge.not journey men or mercenaries.

I wonder how much Doueihi had to do with this call.

Sheens was quoted as saying he may not even play this season, and not for at least a few months. There were also reports Madge had asked players to play when they weren't fit. If Sheens told Madge not to pick AD for another 6-8 weeks, and Madge drew a line in the sand and Sheens flicked him to maintain player wellbeing at the forefront of short term results then I can understand it.

Madge tried his ass off, and was fully committed to the club, can't say that about many these days. But he simply didn't have enough impact with results. Ok he got the boys trying in recent weeks, but that should be a standard not a special effort for the coach.

It makes much more sense to flick him now than wait til off season. We will miss out on 5 months of recruitment opportunities if he remains. I'd expect a replacement to be named within the next week. Obviously the replacement isn't available immediately or else there'd be no need for a caretaker. And next year was always going to be another rebuilding year - unlikely we get instant success but you never know if things just click...

Was Madge the right man to turn around the culture and cap, possibly. Is he the coach that's going to get us in the top 4? I honestly don't think so. We need our next coach to be that man who'll not only turn us into a mildly successful club but into a genuine premiership chance on a yearly basis.

You make a very good observation mate. I have thought that before re Madge view on injured players, which makes me wonder how much of that has impacted our injury rate this year as well.

Blore hasn't left the injury ward, JTJ was playing busted early part of the year, Ken has been playing on one leg & Stefano clearly came back far too early as well.

AD is a key piece of our success coming back from his 2nd major knee injury & most experts say don't come back before 9mths of recovery which we are at least a month off on that.

Madge did say alot of things, he also said Brooks can play rep halfback this year and 2 weeks later was dropped from halfback for Hastings.

A old song to try to make the best of it:

It’s my (party) tigers and I’ll cry if I want to.

Nobody knows where Maguire has gone
But sheensy left the same time
Why was Lee stalking them both
The team is supposed to be going fine

It’s my tigers and I’ll cry if I want to…
You would cry to if they happened to you!

Madge broke no records and kept swearing all night
But leave me alone for awhile
Till Ciraldos coaching for us
I’ve got not reason to smile.

It’s my tigers…

Sheensy and Madgey just walked through the door
Like a Queen with his king
Oh what an origin surprise
Madgys clutching his ring…

$800k payout, he’ll be ok.

Good post. A tragic event and an insidious disease. I know my sons' are without their mother because of it.
I didn't comment on his personal circumstance...
Only that he was moved on from the club - And a few other clubs that he's coached at.
He has very limited first grade experience - And none in the NRL.

It’s a shit show mate
So Sheens just said in an interview that he wants a development coach and Madge didn't fit the criteria.
When asked what is a development coach he said giving young players a go.
I sort of get that because Madge is a proven Coach at gelling a good roster into a good team ala Souths. He needs the roster to be strong in order to get results.
It appears now, that WT want a coach that can develop players like Daine Laurie and young players coming through pathways.
So what this is telling me is that Madge either hasn't got the demeanor to gel with young players and guide them to success in the NRL...or he doesn't want to.
I can only hope Tim Sheens is a good judge because if we get another coach who doesn't work as a development coach then we are back to square one.
Looking back to what paws was saying about jumping on the Pathway train I now think he meant development style coach.....so paws I'll agree with you that Morris would fit the bill or maybe Ciraldo.
If your going to be a development coach you will need gun assistant coaches and pathway gurus to identify what players are "worth" the time and effort.
The COE is going to be a huge effort moving forward. It's a pity Madge didn't get this facility or the team he deserves for his tenure.
It's a buisiness and sometimes people get hurt, no more than us, the supporters.
