Just my positive thoughts -

Sheens is aware the Cowboys have cap issues and can't afford LL this year without losing/swapping a player with WTs.

Justin booked LL first class on a NASA space shuttle to Townsville before the ink dried dried on the release and before any discussions around player swaps occurred.

The Cowboys now have LL but can't fit him in the cap. Robson is offered and rejected. Why would we want another hooker? We want Nanai but would accept the Hammer.
This would be a masterstroke... Knowing the Tigers though, I think we will probably end up paying Luch's contract for the year, his flights up there and for a nice air conditioned house in Townsville.

I think the cowboys didn't think it would be so soon. Tigers just got it done quickly and the cowboys are moving things around quickly.

Maybe they will have to wait a month so hel be on less coin to out him under.
It’s the first time we’ve ever done anything quickly!

Took them by surprise.

If they don’t Pony up, we send in Lee or Get Muz pissed and fly him up on a mission.

Gutted he can't play a 100? He asked for the release.
Far out - some people and some reporters.

He wants to play finals football, the Cowboys need him because of injuries and our seasons done.
His manager was fronted several times by the Cowboys to try and get him early.
At first it was a big no because Madge was grasping at straws to save his coaching gig.
Now that is over there is little point on hanging onto Lucy especially as he seems distracted and not focussed (a big difference to not giving a shite)
The media have hyped it up as if Lucy has walked out on the club.... that's crapm he was released.
We would have recieved compensation even if it's only getting out of paying the remainder of Lucy's contract.
Having Payten in an alliance is also not a bad thing. Tim and Tod (and the flower pot men) are friends so in the future there might be a boomerang.
I know I'll be cheering on Lucy in the finals.
I know it's time now to move on and start giving these lower grade players a run, I look forward to that.

There saying on google now that the tigers my be chipping in so he can join the cows , if this true we are dead set mugs
No way.
If it is the case it's a salary cap cover up that we should not be involved in.
That's all we need!

If the paper work hasn’t been done it’s not official . And our Chair is a lawyer. Apparently.
Maybe - but as another poster pointed out all we have done is release him from his contract so he is no long WTs responsibility. If the cows can't get a contract registered he is in limbo. No doubt another side vying for top 8 would jump in and sign him for the remainder of the year.

I am not familiar with the legalities and will let it play out. We should not have announced it so soon imo.

As far as i have seen all we did was release him from his contract - what he does after that is up to him. Maybe Matt Lodge can get him a game with Norths 2nd grade rugby.
None of us know. Some whispers out there that financials are yet to be agreed. Who knows, all I know is, we stuff up most times.

Pretty much my thoughts too Paws

Cows wanted him but hadn't got their ducks in a row yet. We ask for a trade and they say no. We release the player immediately putting the onus on the Cows to sign him, with Sheens knowing well that they can't afford to do so. We have no obligation to the player for any future payments as his contract was mutually terminated. For the Cows to be cap compliant they need to release a player from their top 30 (who is willing to go) to free up the necessary cap space. If we make an offer for one of their players it may make it too hard for them to say no to, even if they don't want to trade.

Is that giving us too much credit? Sheens has always been known for being Shifty and very strategic.

On the other hand if we did announce it before the contract was officially terminated in writing by both parties then that would be extremely amateur, especially for a club who's chairman is a high profile lawyer.

Players i'd accept: Drinkwater, Hammer, Tuilagi, Luki, Nanai, McLean, Neame, Taunoa-Brown as possible targets. All (except Luki - 2025, Mclean 2022) are off contract at end of 2023 and can open discussions for 2024 in november. If we were to 'unofficially sign' one of these players on big money for 2024 then hopefully we negotiate an early release for the final year of their contract.
