Luciano Leilua

Agree with all of this. He wanted out and this was granted (what is this bullshit about him not wanting to leave or let the fans / his team mates down?) we owe him nothing, same as his brother.

Luc/manager: I/we want a release to go to the Cowboys immediately.”

Tigers: “Ok, sign here, you’re released, thanks for your service, especially that last game.”

Cows: “Wait what? We haven’t done our due diligence as you guys said no last time. Shit we haven’t even done a medical assessment and he’s supposed to be playing an international fixture OMGWTFBBQ!”

None of this is a Tigers problem. If Luc and his manager have managed to arrange this shambles in such a way that he’s now entirely uncontracted that’s on them.
I mean I used to take photos of him at games and look up to him

Sharing an embrace with Corey Norman.

…and then he had his spat about Paps and he left us, his reason was “more money” and the lure of a huge sub marquee upgrade.

And what might be lost on the most earnest and kind hearted of his admirers is that we made him.

He was a fringe bench player at sgi with 30 minutes in him max and it was the Wests Tigers who turned him into an 60-80 minute behemoth.

A couple of games at the start of this year, he was indomitable. Had a real go.

So against that, given he left us willingly and in spite of his wonderful attitude earl speaks to, love of fans and all that, we have loyal players with financial urges, youth who need feeding and future players ready to join us to lift us up.

Accordingly, Lucy made his bed and must now lie in it. We didn’t make it for him, it’s his own doona and pillow.

On the old player v club ‘hard done by’ ledger, I reckon she’s even stevens. Gun to my head scenario, he probably owes us.

Just listen to joffa interview on the tigers website. He said Luciano has been playing injured. That's been the problem with Madge. He always played players with injuries or not fully fit. It has a big out come on games and big out come on a players form and confidence. Luc form speaks for it self.
Kimmorly / Sheens played him last week. All teams play players who are carrying some level of injury. Cleary played his son with a shoulder injury at the backend of the year to get to GF - straight in for an op after. Every club has players strapped up and receiving treatment and management for injury, and if LL was too injured to play Kimmorly and Sheens wouldn't have played him last week.

Correct mate, I would say most rugby league players who play for any decent period would end up with a few chronic injuries. Something they battled through a career with. That’s not just the guys who get paid to do it. It’s a tough sport.

Is that the same problem with Payten? Taumalolol was hobbling around last few weeks with a knee brace on. Made 200m in 68 mins last night.

Yes, that’s always been our problem, no depth. Madge was sacked because of a perceived opportunity which may or may not reveal itself. Not because he can’t coach.

Departing Wests Tigers forward Luciano Leilua has officially signed with North Queensland - but it has cost him a Samoan jersey.

News Corp understands that the final details of Leilua’s move were finalised late on Thursday after he was granted an early release by the Tigers, allowing him to strengthen North Queensland’s premiership credentials.

The Cowboys’ clear preference was that Leilua sit out Samoa’s Test this weekend due to the risk of injury. Leilua has agreed to do so, meaning he will be fit to make his debut for North Queensland against Brisbane in round 16.

Funny - i can't see an apology in there stating that WT did nothing wrong. It reads to me like LL jumped the gun in asking for his release before the Samoa test. The cows " preference " was that we shouldn't have given him that requested release until after the test. So even though according to the media the cows were legally and morally right they and LL have backed down. So all the BS they sprouted was just that - BS to try and deflect theirs and LL and his managers incompetence.

Yep still twisting their narrative.

I wonder what they would write if Tigers denied Noffa his Samoan jumper due to concussion risk? Or if they denied Lucy his jumper because of risk of making a niggling injury worse?

We definitely did jump the gun and were unprofessional with this.

I don't think we should have put out the press release until Leilua's deal was done, it was unprofessional. However, what we also mentioned in the press release is that he was 'joining Cowboys for the remainder of the year'.

I understand that we can make a statement saying we have released LL once our contract with him is null and void (I understand but don't agree with it) but to announce that he has joined another club when the club hasn't made the announcement is awful.

Only we look bad in all this. We jumped the gun. Another instance of WT looking bad.

I made that point earlier that whoever released the statement was wrong in adding the bit about NQ. The statement should have just been LL has requested an early release from his contract and WT have granted his request. Nothing more. Hopefully whoever put out the release got a kick up the behind.

we are not the only ones who look bad. The cows, LL and his manager look like fools - there obviously was no consultation between them as to what the plan was if LL was granted an early release. The problem is the media as usual painted us as the bad guys. Even when the media posted about LL having to forgo his test there was no mention of how him and cows had stuffed up.

I don’t read as much into it.

What we say in the press is not going to impact the realities of the contractual situation.

If they hadn’t checked his health and related, instead of agreeing, they could have said

“ thanks for letting us know, a couple of things to check, need to get the paperwork, a current health check and formalities together and we will get back to you”

But it seems they panicked and after checking their books, duly agreed to take him.

So between the clubs, that’s the info we had, we knew LL was ready to go and we went ahead announced it.

Also in contract, our conduct reflected our intent per the agreement and we want to push it through and not be liable for him anymore when we don’t want him anymore.

So it’s still my view that nothing to see at Concord.

The dotted line fever is the cows and his incompetent appalling manager.

I read an article about Matterson's departure and that was right up there about why he wanted out.

Why would there be an apology? Tigers announced it before paper work was signed, therefore not official. It was ridiculous we announced it.

Can't believe how many people think we were in the right.

Everyone is so sensitive to any media criticism that it has got to the point that anything legit against us (which is a lot) is seen as media bias. We deserve most of what we get.

If this was the 4th release request and we’ve granted it, how are we in the wrong? It seems as though there’s some gentleman’s agreement and goodwill how releases are handled. It appears that it’s all good until tigers show some backbone.

No one on here has been able to cite the legal or NRL rule surrounding this controversy.

Just wrong in announcing it 40 minutes after it was only verbally agreed. Anyone with any brains would wait until the paperwork was official. We all know how quickly things change in Rugby League.

Agree there seems to be elements of unprofessionalism. We don’t know how the last phone call went down. The “verbal agreement” could have ended with a big fat f u as they hung up.

Cowboys found out how quickly things can change this week.

Good Riddance.

Kimmorley said he wants to reward hard work and motivate his players - Glad he's off the books.

What Lucy does now has zero to do with us.
