Wests Tigers Coaches

So you know exactly what your friends are doing all the time, every time? They share every secret with you, every comment, every outcome with you?

You don't think Ivan Cleary had a vested interest in hiding something like that from Pascoe, hiding the fact that he was being courted by Panthers?

Did anyone else at Tigers guess that Ivan was having second thoughts? Did the newspapers know before Penrith dropped the story? Did any of the players know, who saw Cleary all day every day at training?

You also don't know what Pascoe really knew and what was made public. There's every possibility he long held suspicions.

It's pointless to speculate and it's a silly argument to place on a person.

All the other stuff is fine, but to be backstabbed... that's not the fault of the person being backstabbed. Next you'll be outing Julius Caesar as a bad ruler, for not predicting the motivations of Brutus.

When they sacked Hook all my mates were like “who are they gonna get” I told them all - IVAN!! Was way before it went down…

They needed a coach - and to seal up the best 7 coming through long term…
You could smell the ambush a mile off….

Of no one in the organisation saw it coming - they should have… I did and I wasn’t on my own

- doesn’t mean it wasn’t the biggest dog act though…..
I always thought of Matulino - he moved a young family to another country with no support structure to play under Cleary - then Cleary sent him a text and bailed…. Cold

OK but guesswork aside, what are you gonna do about it if he's already your head coach?

It's not like Tigers signed Ivan Cleary and ignored an imminent threat that he was going to leave the following season.

Hands up anyone who predicted Ivan Cleary would quit Tigers to join Panthers, the club that already sacked him once, before Cleary even joined the Tigers?

Nobody within Tigers can be responsible for what Cleary chooses to do with his career once he's already employed.

Not sure about you, but I'd take a win over the Dogs SG ball side at the moment.
I really don't care for random wins anymore. What does it matter if we beat the Bulldogs? What joy does that bring anymore? If that's what being a fan is, I really don't care for it.

There is no strategy involved in taking what you can get.
Yes there most definitely is.
Take Newcastle, Their strategy of Paying overs for premium forwards is IMHO a great idea that hasn't worked out.
David Klemmer 1 mil
Tyson Frizzle 1 mil.
Sure overs, but they have 2x players that would start in any team.

Contrast that with us, who take who we can get... At the moment our pack is considered reserve grade by most.
It was very clear that someone in tigerland had a spreadsheet and was buying players based of metrics/value.

When Cleary publicly stated that he wanted to coach his son, our board was convinced they were signing Nathan lol. Pascoe has said that.
Who would know what was unfolding at the time?
Fans are too emotionally invested and looking toward the best outcomes, they shouldn’t be making management decisions for the club.

Titans had the same strategy with 2 $1m forwards and they are also trying to get the spoon off us.

We need a coach today this saga is now making our great club look absolutely like a rudderless ship in a cyclone , Christ how hard is it , We are in trouble on the ladder , loosing players and only have 2 signed for next year and the best that are left are getting picked off while we fk around , Flanagan today and he would take a 3 year deal and also will bring players , he did it at Cronulla so that’s good enough for me as Cronulla were shits for years , get it done sheens , do your job

Agreed....
No one holds a gun to anyones' head these days.

If you've got something or someone that someone wants or needs - It's only a matter of
time before they try get it from you...
No different in any business.

I agree wholeheartedly that this is frustrating. I don't for a second believe that Sheens and crew are bumbling about in the dark.

I'm pretty sure their hand was forced due to the decisions made by the Dogs and Warriors. Despite the optics, once they decided Madge was not the right guy going forward, I believe they made the hard right decision by letting him go and not doing it all behind his back. It has been painful for us all.

The early CC announcement is hard to understand; however, either they were very confident in the discussions they already had or the decision was leaked to the media so they had to try and get on the front foot. Did the Chair blowing up at the podcast scuttle HMAS CC or was it something else. We will probably never know until Sheens writes his memoirs.

Suffice to say they have been very quiet regarding where they are going since. The media are doing the same as us fans - speculating and jumping at shadows. While it appears that the recruiting options are drying up (not that the open market is much chop) and the delay in the coaching selection is apparently hurting our recruitment does anyone seriously believe that Sheens and Co are sitting on their hands?

Like him or hate him Sheens is a strategic thinker. He makes some decisions that appear crazy; but, were are made to achieve, or explore, an outcome. To create the circumstances for or to stimulate change.

In the military they have what are called shaping operations. Sometimes these operations involve forces doing something unrelated to cause the enemy to react; ie, to set the preconditions for another part of the operation (this is where the term throw shape at them comes from in our game), they also include an element of information operations (known as Psyops in the old times) . This has two components - protection your own information (no leaks) while concurrently getting information out to support your desired endstate or shape the enemy's thinking.

The media is filling the news void with speculation to make themselves look and feel relevant. You only have to read this thread to see that NRL 360 are achieving exactly what they want to achieve. Discussion about them! As fans we can choose to be like the media and jump at every shadow or we can look at it objectively.

Does anyone believe what Gould is saying about sitting on his hands doing nothing about a coach for the Dogs? He is shaping something for sure. Keeping everything under wraps until he has got it all in place before an announcement is made.

I have no doubts that Sheens and Co are also working something that will be revealed when the club is ready. They jumped the gun for sure on CC and they know that us supporters are uneasy. They can read the media speculation as well as we can. They know NRL 360 is roasting us daily - but they clearly have an outcome and a plan to get there and aren't about to be forced into making an announcement by Fox TV. As painful as it is for us it is something we should take strength from. They are doing the due diligence to get the best possible outcome.

We just have to trust, that under the guidance of Sheens, the club will make the right strategic decision and stop taking an accountants approach to building a successful team.

Lee is the leak. Can't keep his mouth shut, he has tried by staying out the media but those networking breakfasts he would be blah blah to win some connections in business.
I don't doubt his passion and is probably a super fan of the Tigers but like all fans they love to talk footy and brag, especially the ones with inside scoop.
