Wimbledon

Wasn’t refereeing to you, or the post in particular, but any Australian working in an industry where you’re not under public scrutiny (like many on here) and can even attempt to practise what they preach with regards to modesty and humility and all of that TOTAL bullshit, has to by default be able to give a better account of themselves in that sense. No mincing. Many would fall short.

My point was he does more than enough off the field, which we agree on, right? And besides he does actually brings in huge ticketing numbers worldwide regardless.

I’m riding right up his arse and some that know me well enough may understand why. But I had to in this situation because you’re all conveniently underselling what it even means to be in the public eye 24/7. Doesn’t make him a bad person, just under constant pressure.

There’s no denying he made himself an easy target and in my eyes, plus a lot of people who understand sport psychology, that’s not always and is often NOT a reflection of poor behaviour - more so a coping mechanism. Feel free to differ.

As was stated above however… you seem to be able to understand a lot of the undercurrents here (on a WT forum no less) where he’s about to go play a Wimbledon Singles Final.

It makes sense that a lot of stones are being thrown in this glass house, especially because he’s Aussie.

Tall poppy syndrome.
'Tall poppy syndrome' is such a cop out. Do well and don't be a knob and people get behind you. Simple.

If tall poppy syndrome existed everyone would have been trying to tear down Ash Barty. But she wasn't an arrogant twat, so everyone supported her.
Nick's not even a very tall poppy anyway, he's only ranked 40, he's not in the same league as the dude who would have knocked him out in the semi final if he didn't pull out injured.

It’s a cop out, until you get Tall Poppy’d for absolutely no fkn reason mate, that is my issue. Not for one second do I think Nick expects sympathy or people to fight the problematic plights he’s going to find himself in throughout life.

That is the type of character he is, colourful.

A shame that all you could really say - and totally non-constructively - is "don’t be a knob" and then people will get behind him?

So, when he’s found innocent/undeserving of such a putrid act being levelled against his name, you’ll be happy to admit you’ve gone off half-cocked… he’s literally one of the biggest tennis superstars in the world and you cannot deny it?

If for no other reason than he’s successful at what he does, I can respect that.

If it hurts you deeply on a personal level = your problem.

Why do you care so much that I don't like him?

I think he's a scummy personality, and I wouldn't call someone who is ranked 40th "one of the biggest tennis superstars in the world".

Hope the sook gets flogged and retires, loses his instagram account to a hacker, and gets swooped by a magpie.

Love that last sentence. Classic

Hahaha “for no fkn reason”
I listed above some reasons why people don’t like him. They are valid and nothing to do with tall poppy syndrome.
Plenty of eyes on him tonight…let’s hope he doesn’t carry on like a spoilt child or just give up. He has a chance tonight to change peoples minds about him.

I have no choice but to pay this response.

Well put mate, agree to disagree and I reckon he’d flog you chatting that in the crowd sometime before his retirement (strictly with verbal skills). That’s my opinion - although I don’t think his ‘antics’ make him an inherently bad person… to each their own though

I like him but I understand the hate.

His own fault.
I have meet and have had conversations many many times over the last year he stays at the Star in Sydney he is very honest and the first time I spoke with him he was so open and honest told me he doesn't like Playing tennis and that he does it for his family he is not stuck up I told him he is nothing like he comes across on tv he has time for fans and doesn't seek out being recognised in public he is like an expose nerve with his honesty but so humble in person softly spoken I was so taken back by him just a genuine nice guy in real life and gives you his time

Nick did well to make the finals but it wasn't to be. He needs to work on his mental game because when things don't go his way he loses the plot.

Abused his own players box throughout the match so highly unlikely anyone who disliked him changed their minds. Definitely got some massive psychological issues.

Novak is a dick as well but by the god he can play.
I liked watching Sampras and Federer and Nadal…Joker is right there with them and probably better overall.

I watched it. NK is a great player competed well,- but couldnt match it against possibly the greatest ever. NK can't regulate his emotions it's his DNA. He may address it as he matures but he is who he is.
It can be uncomfortable to watch at times but, we are not all the same and what we see with him is a person who is real, and flawed as well as being a talented tennis player.

He’s 27. He’s not going to change. Players can grow out of being brats but only if they are really young.
