Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

People can laugh at others for defending him, but at the end of the day, the club has stuck by him and no coach has ever dropped him. And no one claims it’s because he’s a superstar. That’s a take that a lot of his bashers just assume is the case with anyone that sticks up for him. As @batboy keeps saying over and over, there are no better options at the club than him. That can always change if the club decides to pursue a marquee half, but for now, he’s our best available option. And the proof of that is that he is named every single week. It’s pretty easy to chop and change halves, but he is always the constant.
Good post. I believe the club should chase Moses and return to the Moses/Brooks combination.

Nah it was Brooks kelma dogged it and Brooks come in. Mixed bag game for him. Take away the kick and him going to marker on the Moses try it was a good game.v
Disagree on the marker point, as with our fullback in the tackle and needing to get back, and Liddle going to struggle to get there, someone had to be at marker. Didn't make the tackle following, but did more than any other for the team on those plays, as he always does.

Yep don't know exactly but anything close to what has been reported - which is all anyone goes on - is inflated for the level of his performance. There is nothing to show that can justify it.
He’s a first choice half with almost 200 games under his belt. That alone will put him in the ball park of around 500k at a minimum. No one signs first choice halves for 150-200k.

Again, You have no idea how or why they're reporting what it's on.
His contract is in the last of 4 years - We've heard nothing on his "Value" Until the last 12 months (Maybe)

If we're going specifically off numbers reported,
It was also reported Brooks won Halfback of the year (3rd overall in the Dally M's from memory) on 550k (Reported)....
Moses won the Wooden spoon at Parra on 750k (Reported)

All speculative, and very malleable depending on which side of the fence you sit...

Furthermore - I don't remember anyone whinging about paying Farah 900k 8 years ago (When the cap was much less than it is now) to not get us to finals....

I think people get far too emotional when they talk about dollar figures without actually understanding the mechanics of the cap, what other clubs are prepared to pay etc. Someone has a bad game and it’s “he’s only worth X”. Not as simple as that.

You are 100% correct. You know what else is constant, no games in September.

9 and a bit seasons, 188 games, 130 odd players he's played with, four coaches and three administrations. Not one finals game. It's everyone else's fault, can't possibly lie with him.

Before anyone tries the "you work in that constantly changing environment," line, Manly in that time have had three coaches, five administrations and over 120 players played for them in that time and made the finals four times.

Cronulla have had four coaches plus two caretakers, multiple administrations, 100 odd players and only missed the finals twice.

Farah and Benji Struggled to get us to the finals as well....
Farah was on big money and no finals from 12-16 but he was a club legend?

The point is he hasn't had a good game.
Plus he's not even the best halfback at the club, hence the number 6.
Give AD a couple of games back after a long lay-off and Brooks will be cutting oranges.

Because he took us to the finals three times, and won us a premiership. He is infinitely more successful than Brooks. I also said that he was on too much money at the end as well.

As @batboy keeps saying over and over, there are no better options at the club than him.

I'm no Brooks lover. I have stated I want Hastings and Doueihi as our halves combination mainly because of the brain dead plays Brooks comes up with ala that kick on the weekend.

At this point though you have to be blind or not watching our games to realize Brooks is clearly one of our best options in the halves.

I suppose you can try Hastings/Doueihi as a combination because it might work but I really wanted those two to prove they are our best options in the halves and they haven't done that.

Madden isn't bad. I'm not sure where he sits in relation to the other halves.

Put it this way players aren't exactly putting their hands up and stating you have to pick me.

I'm pretty disapointed because I saw this year as figuring out our halves going forward.

Point is - They're all up for grabs and none of them are putting their hands up....
It's a Shame Brooks level of form is where it is, Also a shame that none others are playing better than him....

Cowboys bought a kid last year that no one wanted, He's now playing Origin.
I don't know what the solution is - Based on last weeks game, It's certainly not Hastings and Doueihi.... I don't even know if it's Hastings at all...
He's mostly trying to play like a middle, But playing like a half...

If you're playing in the middle, Play in the middle... And stop with the side to side crap.

Been playing more 7 than Hastings the last few weeks....
You probably missed that as well?

Yes, that's my fault for getting into debates with people who follow players instead of clubs. I am convinced that one of Paws' sons that they routinely refer to is Brooks.

It’s really pathetic. No wonder we’re considered a joke club and other fans mock our fans.

Paw, batboy, and GRN are just hanging for the next ‘Brooks to be unleashed’ article to try and justify their support for a player who has never delivered.

“But…but.. Hastings and AD had bad games”whilst conveniently ignoring the rubbish Brooks has fished out for 9 seasons and that Hastings is playing injured and AD is 3 games back from an ACL and playing out of position.

I’ve seen you make comments like this more than once. You legit seem to think supporters are to blame. Do you not comprehend that it does not matter what supporters think? That it doesn’t matter if Brooks has a million backers. What matters is the club. They are the ones making the decisions that you should be directing your frustrations at. Not a few faceless plebs on a stupid forum.

I was thinking he'd be better off getting back to the line in that play even if he gave a penalty thought would be in a better position to tackle moses

Farah was a representative player earned the right to get that contract.
There has never been a player with more focus around him that has delivered so little and that won't change while ever he is at this club.
The media have put a figure on him and whether it's correct or not won't matter because it is out there and with that comes the pressure to deliver - just like all the other players who's big dollar values are speculative at other clubs.
We have gone nowhere by persisting with him and his game has not improved by being loyal to the club. I would like to see him do well but can't see it happening here and that's no good for us or him.
