Wests Tigers Coaches

This is not a case of lining up Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy, Tim Sheens, , John Morris, Cameron Ciraldo and Todd Payten and saying, 'Tim. He's our guy'.

Ciraldo has declined. By all reports, as has Morris and Woolf. There is very little left.

In that situation, there is only really one option; bide our time for 2 years with an experienced coach who knows the club inside and out, repair the bent out of shape squad and bring some of the touted youth through. Make ourselves at least moderately desirable again, then we may stand a chance of securing some decent recruits and a semi-decent coach, or, would have developed one in-house, with intimate knowledge of the systems.

The other option, as it stands right now, is offer the job to a complete left-fielder on a whim, a fourth or fifth string choice, such as Furner, Pay, Hannay or the like.

In our situation, this is the correct choice.

The term “ development coach” has “ on going poor performances to be expected” written all over it.

I dont think it’s very enticing for recruiting players externally.

There is going to be some push back on this change. But let's face it, it seems some of the Madge supporters are still trying to get over the break up of Wham.

I’m not sure if it’s structure over the failings or shortcomings of individual actors.

And logically, we don’t know if a Balmain half or dominated regime would have fared any better.

I’m an unabashed club federalist, the Union is sacred and makes us stronger.

But I’m in complete agreement with you as to the unsatisfactory state of affairs.

And I’m not anti-Tim per se, but here we are, another detour off the plan laid out. Off on another frolic.

I certainly am not suggesting that the Balmain side would be any better as they had shown their incompetence earlier, but we certainly need change and the sooner the better

I think having Sheens as coach could work. I can remember Canberra winning the comp with Don Furner as co-coach with a young assistant named Wayne Bennett. Sheens with Benji, Robbie or whoever might just be the right move
Bennett had coached in Brisbane for a decade before he went to Canberra.

That’s right, I appreciated your point, it was very well made, I was just building on it as I found it to be quite interesting.

We all thrive on the speculation, but there are no definitive answers other than perhaps we need to address the evident deficiencies in our management.

This latest “sheens for coach” frolic is truly remarkable.

Since you want to put it that way i can only assume that you agree with the statement "that all the Sheens supporters think Elvis is still alive " and will be out saviour

If you have a club that has cycled through about 600 coaches, the last thing we should be doing is appointing an 85 year old to the job who will only be there for two years or so. We need to commit to a coach who can be here for 5 years.

Aside from Sheens, I'm very intrigued how the deeper coaching set up will end up with ...
  • Benji ... will he be groomed as the heir apparent in 3 years but he loves his media commitments
  • Robbie ... seems to have gone from trainer to an assistant to Kimmorley but manages multiple businesses
  • Wayne Lambkin ... current NSW Cup coach who progressed from Jersey Flegg, great reputation as Westfields schools head coach for decades, great rapport with the juniors & exceptional strikerate except for this year but a lot of this year not his coaching fault
  • Brett Kimmorley ... was Pathways coach now interim Head Coach, will he go back to Pathways or come into senior coaching role
  • Nathan Cayless & Ben Gardiner ... current assistant coaches with significant asst coaching experience in NRL & international, Isaaih Papaali said they (with Madge) were a reason he signed
  • Scott Kenna ... current Jersey Flegg coach

Best outcome given what’s currently put up as available (and that’s including CC near miss).
I can live with this outcome and will enjoy the ride.
But by all means …. carry on with your chatter people.
See if I can find another for my “Ignore” list!
Terrible outcome..but hey everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on the matter

Yes, I’m warming to the idea Sheens, Benji, Robbie, these guys stick like fridge magnets, doesn’t matter how many times they get sacked, they keep on turning up. This is the sort of tenacity missing in the club’s culture.

You look at all the coaches out there, and apart from a couple they have all been sacked or failed to some degree.

Worst defence in the League and Cayless is an option? Oof

Todd Payten has taken over a decade of coaching lower grades until he was ready for an NRL job. These guys have done zero.

Who is 85 years old? Definitely not Sheens who is younger than Bennett, the Dolphins coach.
