Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

I didn't agree with sacking Madge but in business and in life you need to act with integrity. The only right action was to sack Madge if we were looking for a new coach. Lining up the coach prior to sacking Madge would have shown a lack of integrity.

They chose the next best option and they have provided a 5 year plan/time frame for their actions to work. I disagree that this was to win over the fans.

I love how you use the Paul Kent line as well. That is pathetic.
You should save your breath trying to talk reason to this guy. I turned him off some time back and from what I see from your post …. he’s still spinning the same old record.

So your saying that the COE is not going to help with pathways, recruitment and onfield performances?
Why are you linking the two in this topic?..just wondering. 👍
I hope It does all those things and am confident it will help retain jnr‘s and attract some players, but imo on field performance that’s the combination of a lot of things, facilities probably lower down the order Of things required to be a success, still a factor. Nothing is going to help us this year, especially not the COE.

We sure have invested.and wasted a lot money before, but this is certainly the best investment for the future of the WT.
We didn't pay for all of the cost FT so it's the best investment we have made in a long time.
I'm sure if we can get some success on the field next year then the COE will be an attraction to our pathway players.
It will have a better feel to our club.
Benji Marshall has announced that he has given his media commitments away to concentrate on the club so you can expect him to be promoting this venue to all concerned 👍

Like most on the Forum I don't have access to the financials of the club BUT its a well known fact that the club is DEBT FREE they are within the salary cap and still have room to move the COE just didn't happen there would have been a lot of negotiations that took place to get what the club has got now.In regard to the coaching situation again we don't know what took place with the sacking of Madge but every man and his dog were calling for him to be sacked .Do we know if Ciraldo gave the impression he wanted the job than got cold feet and pulled out we will never know.Tim in an interview on SEN said they wanted CIRALDO hence the very good 5 year offer again everyone was advising CIRALDO not to take the position.Tim also said the others available were not suitable to what the club was trying to achieve. If you believe what was in the media the suggestion for Tim to coach was made by Buzz Rothfield at a luncheon organised by WT'S the suggestion grew legs and we are where we are today.

So you don’t know. I don’t know for sure either. All I can do is base my assumptions on the data the club releases and watch the position the management team have gotten the club into.

IMO, it’s very, very weak. If the Ciraldo debacle was an exception rather then the rule I could understand people defending. The fact is it’s another example in a long list of stuff ups. With so many stuff ups, how can you honestly take the their word that although the footy sucks, they’re cashed up? It’s classic misdirection.

And if they took coaching tips from buzz they need to be punted.

My opinion which is as a stupid arm chair critic is that Madge shouldn't have been sacked. Other people on here have different opinions and reasons for their opinions.

In stating that Sheens and I am pretty sure it was Sheens made the decision to sack him. It doesn't make any sense that Sheens didn't recommend sacking him because that was Sheens role.

We don't know what happened after Ciraldo said no but as I stated in an earlier post I think it was right not to have a coach lined up. That to me shows integrity.

So then it comes down to making the best decision based on the talent available at that point in time. They've made the decision to have Sheens mentor Benji so the next 5 years is a done deal at this point in time.

I really doubt that this was all Sheens making these decisions. I reckon he is happy the way it turned out but the board and CEO would have approved this decision. I can't blame solely Sheens for the decision. Let's wait and see how it turns out.

Lastly you make a good point but I'm fine with the decision mainly because I don't see any better options including Ciraldo. I don't care about due diligence unless it leads to good decisions.

It's a very good point your making.
The fact that all the facilities are in one place such as weights, recovery, physio, video, conference room, administration and a training ground would make a difference especially with organizing the team.
The fact it is in a spacious clean environment and not the opposite would probably make for a positive vibe.
I also believe it will be an awesome venue for our pathways.
CC, I'm trying to upload some images I took on my tour but it keeps saying the file is too big. I've reduced it to 2.5 mb. Does anyone know what size you can upload or how to do it some other way?

Unsure mate. When I have trouble I move the image to gallery and crop and save. For some reason I can get larger pics uploaded

Won't stay that way if they keep losing. Wooden spoons do a great job of stopping merchandise sales, scaring sponsors off & stopping your fans from turning up.
You do realise that Tigers are setting membership records these past few seasons, despite not even being close to finals contention?

It appears the rusted-on fanbase is sufficient for self-sustainability, and I can only imagine how gangbusters it might go if Tigers are actually competitive for a bunch of seasons.

We've heard from so many coaches and trainers over the years that the weights you put on the bars weigh the same where ever they are or what ever the building looks like.

This of course has been an excuse that has been peddled over the years while we have had very poor facilities, suggesting that it makes very little difference.

Now that we have a Centre of Excellence that has been coming for way too long, do we really expect the players that we have to suddenly turn into super stars?

Do we expect players to start beating down the doors wanting to sign up for the Wests Tigers, it certainly wasn't enough to convince #1 pick coach Cameron Ciraldo to come here.

Really, apart from being a feel good story, is this new facility going to attract new players and is it going to make the ones we currently have better players?

Will they catch or pass a ball better, will they suddenly find that speed and fitness that we are always complaining that they lack, will they suddenly be smarter or quicker between the ears, will it reduce the number of injuries we have or have them return from injuries sooner?

My guess is that it isn't going to make a huge amount of difference on its own but If I can live long enough I guess that in another 10 years we may see whether it has made a discernible difference.

My thoughts only.
Need better players to attract better players. Better facilities might help but a change in culture is more important than any gym.

I agree with you, 5kgs is still 5kgs and all that, but it can't be underestimated how much a professional enviroment helps in fostering a winning culture ... Especially after operating out of an old 80's Soviet bus shelter at the old Concord + being underfunded for all those years. Look like a winner - feel like a winner etc etc.
