Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

Very interesting comment. What about the perception of the players? Media, other fans and our fans don't really count when we aren't signing the contracts.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'd just like to know if players really, en masse, think Tigers are an unprofessional organisation. Because players surely know better; they have more information than fans do, they know how clubs work and they have less emotional ties to the results of clubs they don't play for.

One cannot simply say "of course we are unprofessional that's why nobody joins us", because that's both unprovable and not accurate when, clearly, players do come to Tigers. There are very many reasons why players might be hesitant to join Tigers, and it may actually be that "club unprofessionalism" is not one of the major issues.

I personally would like to meet Lee H in person, so I can judge him for myself. He might be an absolute turkey, or he may be quite an impressive person, regardless of however it might appear in media.

For example I think Michael Ennis is a tosser and I hate the sound of his voice, but I am reliably informed that he's a really nice bloke.
You're correct. Players do come here. They are hardly frequently top line players at the peak of their powers though.

Serious question. We have a serious problem .
Now that Tim and Benj are back plus the gang that made it possible , who’ll get the best parking spot at the COE and what will be the pecking order ?
Another LH and JP over site .

We've heard from so many coaches and trainers over the years that the weights you put on the bars weigh the same where ever they are or what ever the building looks like.

This of course has been an excuse that has been peddled over the years while we have had very poor facilities, suggesting that it makes very little difference.

Now that we have a Centre of Excellence that has been coming for way too long, do we really expect the players that we have to suddenly turn into super stars?

Do we expect players to start beating down the doors wanting to sign up for the Wests Tigers, it certainly wasn't enough to convince #1 pick coach Cameron Ciraldo to come here.

Really, apart from being a feel good story, is this new facility going to attract new players and is it going to make the ones we currently have better players?

Will they catch or pass a ball better, will they suddenly find that speed and fitness that we are always complaining that they lack, will they suddenly be smarter or quicker between the ears, will it reduce the number of injuries we have or have them return from injuries sooner?

My guess is that it isn't going to make a huge amount of difference on its own but If I can live long enough I guess that in another 10 years we may see whether it has made a discernible difference.

My thoughts only.
Yea and what about recovery pools , Hydro chambers , physio rooms , room for compound / range of movement stuff like cross fit . State of the art screening rooms for game break downs with touch screen monitors , and real time analytics . Particular equipment that better mimics the specifics of the game . Wrestling rooms/ judo mats . Swimming pools on site .
The differences in elite sports between the haves and have nots , can boil down to the most minimal of gains .
And when your starting from behind on just about every single thing that I just mentioned , that all ends of being that not minimal anymore .

The problem with this comment though is that you've set him up so poorly that it's pretty easy to refute.

Has he been charged with fraud or anything similar ? If not then your comment is a bit full on.

If you state he doesn't have a history or turning clubs around or massive success that is a more realistic criticism.

My response to the more valid question is that he did pretty well in Canberra as well as the Tigers and players often speak very highly of him.

I also don't see any if many coaches who have long term success with minimal failures excluding Bellamy but Bellamy has been at the Storm who have bought in so many quality players. I really doubt Bellamy picks all of those players.
From what I’ve been told there’s a blueprint , and a checklist for the “storm” prototype players . They put a heavy focus on intangibles.
This is pretty smart as it’s not dependant on who the coach is or who is working in the building .

By intangibles I wonder if they go for things like "loves a good snort of high grade powder" (Munster and B Smith) and "likes to threaten people half his size" (Lodge).

I reckon it's a load of palava. I think they just pick talent better and maybe hide them in Qld cup until they are ready.

Yea , but how do you differentiate though. Like what makes them pluck nico hynes from rugby league purgatory . there Has to be something that catches their eye. Because no one else saw it at the time . Like specifically what is it that they target . theres been so many nico hynes Now , that even if it was palava originally it’s kind of been wished into existence.

Tim hasn't had a desk at Concord since he arrived, so I don't think he would mind.

picturesque playing field looked after and manicured by socks only on the grass from Tempe in conjunction with Tim’s Mowing Concord

I agree. They are a proper development club. I have no idea what they target but I assume from the type of players they pick up it's raw ability.

It'd be interesting to see what it is. Maybe it's just luck. Maybe it's just an eye for talent.
