Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Interesting that Hastings is supposedly off with some of the playing group. Could this be the same playing group that has just not seriously put in for a number of years and now Hastings is calling them on it - he is the best leader we have had since Scott Prince / no he is not the best player but the best player stopped being the best leader since about Under 10s - we have desperately needed a tough demanding leader for a long time

I keep hearing Wests Tigers are ready to make a splash in rugby league’s player market over the next week.

Multiple sources are claiming the club is poised to sign Panthers winger Charlie Staines while also ready to announce Aaron Woods from the Dragons on a one-year deal.

After a 12-month stint, his homecoming, Woods could then possibly shift into a front office job at the Tigers.

And Parramatta’s Nathan Brown continues to be linked with Wests Tigers. Don’t be surprised if that move is also announced shortly.

The wait has been agonising but maybe, just maybe, good times lie ahead for Tim Sheens, Benji Marshall and Wests Tigers.
Cheers Tigre thanks for the post, must be Staines he was speaking about

I'm personally amazed the lengths the Storm are allegedly going through to try and patch up their backline.

A club puts all their investment in their top-tier players, they lose a few key players to injury, then rather than digging into their deeper ranks like other clubs do, they start asking around the clubs out of finals contention if they can borrow someone half-decent.

I'd tell them to get stuffed. Or Tigers can ourselves spend 99.9% of the salary cap on the Top 22 players and then ask for temporary swap deals when a few injuries test our depth.
This x 1000.
We're suffering now to build our nursery for sustained success, the Storm have brought tradesmen around a great spine while neglecting their pathways for instant success, now they have a injury crisis they want another teams players to just fill the gap. Bugger that. Every team goes through injury crisis at times deal with it, they should have brought in better depth, why should they be bailed out, let their 1.5 million a year coach, teach a prop to play fullback. Otherwise what's the point of a top 30. So we get 30 of our own players and 55 from a combo of other teams just Incase our depth gets hit.

This is the "ferrari" we should be chasing for our future fullback role! Benji style steps in there!

Unfortunately he is contracted until end of 2024 at the Storm, but will be stuck behind Papenhuyzen when he returns next year. Fonua Pole must be mates with him, as he posted highlights on his instagram.
I've seen him play against Balmain in SG Ball and WT in Flegg. He's a little Matty Bowen. Real livewire, not huge but a solid build. Scoring tries, kicking goals and field goals. Setting up his team mates too. Top prospect, mat even get a look with pap out for the season

Staines is not a better fullback then Laurie and Laurie has continued to improve and will be our fullback for future years if he doesn’t get poached, Also Staines isn’t better than Maumalo / Nofa / Kepaoa so unless we signing him for depth which we don’t even need I guess he can be a good cover for fullback at the right price but that’s it. I’d rather us save the money we are gunna spend on him to chuck an extra 200k at a good front rower or backrower / centre, wreaks of us just signing him because he’s available and doesn’t have other options besides us.

Staines is IMO not quite as good as Laurie at fullback, but provides good depth in the position and can play wing.

Outside of Naden, we have zero speed in our outside backs and he would help.

I'm good with this as long as he's not on big money.
Staines would force his way into our backline

Nofo would probably make way
