Isaiah Papali’i #265

attitude stinks and on the nose with Des. tbh I'd steer well clear, players like that don't sort their shit out coming to WT, irrespective of how talented he is. needs a Bellamy to give him a rocket.
If true I think he would be a smart pickup.
Very talented footballer who needs a special mentor and Benji will take that on.

Where is this Schuster to us rumour coming from? Just from the player angst over the pride jersey?
I heard something about 4 weeks ago through a physio friend connected to another club not Manly and he was like We had reached out to Schuster and he was keen as they had strong mail foran was backflipping from gold coast.
I haven't heard anymore since before the pride jersey Fiasco

I don’t think there’s any substance Tigers have informed him he won’t be released from the contract. He’s stated he’s looking forward to playing under Sheens and Benji. Of course you would try stay at the Eels if they come up with the cash. It won’t happen.

Thanks. Could have changed now since Foran has publicly stated he will be heading to the Titans.

He can stay at the Eels if he wants.
It'll cost them 500k a year for 3 years. Extra 1.5mill we throw at someone else

Nrl must rule if you breach contract you sit out season
Thanks for post Steve because I was thinking something similar.
If the NRL doesn't like these backflips that have happened in the past because it's a bad look, then they should take action.
Since all contracts have to be ratifield by the NRL then why can't they control things at "the table"
The player and the club's rep are explained by the NRL the binding nature of the contract and that if the contract is not honoured by either party then a penalty will be imposed by the NRL. The penalty is written into the contract before signing.
Prior to the contract being signed the club has to provide the necessary paperwork for the contract to go ahead (ratified) which is to ensure that once the contract is signed then that is it, your married!
By doing it this way the signing can be announced and there are no specilations, rumours or the chance the signing backfiring because the club is not cap compliant.
There should be no cooling off period post signing.
During the 2 week period where the NRL is running their eye over the club's financial situation this can be considered the cooling off period. An interim/temporary contract is also signed for this period which is not binding as such, it's purpose is to stop the player from registering an additional contract and render them unavailable for nogotiations with other clubs.... hands off!
At the moment contracts are a farce. They are not as binding as as one would like.
If proceedings were done in this way it would put the onus squarely on the player and the club to honour their signature. It takes the manager out of it.
If in Papa's case, if the Eels offer more money to stay with them then it's stiff bickies unless the tigers agree.
Conditions where the contract can be dissolved are also written into the contract.
I believe most of the trouble with contract backflips are caused by managers. They have too much power.
They are the ones who get approached and if the coin is right then they go to work causing all sorts of unrest.
It's not good for the game.

With all this talk of Papalii wanting to backflip in the media, has the N.R.L shown any common-sense to pick up the phone to Parramatta and ask what gives them the stones to try and entice a player to break a contract. The N.R.L should also tell Papaliis agent if he wants to play N.R.L for the next 3 years it will be at concord, and concord only. If he wants to backflip he can either go to a different code or sit out for 3 years like Tallis did. Then the N.R.L should smash Parramatta with a $500,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute, they have form for it.

"Papali’i was even more cryptic about whether he would honour his Tigers deal. While disappointed Tigers coach Michael Maguire had been axed, Papali’i said he would wait until season’s end to make a call, then spoke of his excitement at working with Tigers’ trio Tim Sheens, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah."

From an SMH article....the rest was about Arthur/Brown from Eels.
Amazing how this last comment never came up in the channel nine interview.....

Except the NRL isn’t ricky Stuart and we’re not the NRL’s 12 yo son.

Are you able to post this ? I didn't know about his talking up Sheens / Benji and Robbie.

Is Parra going to have much cash if the resign Moses. They probably don't have the cash and it's the manager stirring crap up to get an upgrade.

Not amazing as media always cut and pastes a “click bait” drama storyline ….. and there are always lots of fish out there that will swallow the bait.

I would actually get a lot of pleasure out of making him sit on the sidelines.
Me too mate, and you know what, if he pulls the mental health card, have him institutionalized for the next 3 years to have his mental health issues resolved so that when he is ready to sign his next contract he is in a fit state to make the right decision.

Of course this is dependent on someone wanting to sign him after being 3 years out of the game.

On a serious note I would be willing to take a hit to the cap and have him sit on the sideline just to bring this issue to a head, but taking into account the track record of this club which is big on talk and small on action, I won't be expecting too much.
