Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Hi guys, here is our updated 'contracted' squad list for next season.

Based on this, don't expect us to sign anyone else from another Club until we have officially released players under contract & have completed our internal contract extensions.

Summary @ 9 August 2022:
- 27 players contracted
- 1 player with a mutual option for 2023 yet to be activated (Ofahengaue)
- 4 players who are contracted for 2023 have been informed they can look elsewhere or reports we are willing to offload (Peachey, Liddle, Gildart, Tuki Simpkins)
- 3 players on contract being speculated as potential sells (Nofoaluma, Brooks, Jake Simpkin)
- 4 players off contract who may be re-contracted (Tamou, Talau, Madden, O'Kane)

Assumption 1 is that Offa activates MO, so that is 28 players officially under contract with 2 spots remaining for any of 8 players already within the Club off contract or on T&T - Tamou/Talau/Madden/O'Kane/Nu Brown/Tumeth/Freebairn/Dias.

Assumption 2 is we'll re-sign at least 2 of these (if not 3-4) in the top 30.

Assumption 3 is that we need other Clubs to officially take at least 3 of Peachey, Liddle, Gildart , Simpkins, Noffa, Brooks, Simpkin before we even contemplate signing anyone from another Club.

Notes

- Joe Ofahengaue has yet to activate his mutual option for 2023.

- The following 8 players off contract or departing: James Tamou. Tommy Talau, Jock Madden, Henry O’Kane, James Roberts, William Kei, Luke Garner, Kelma Tuilagi.

- The following 4 players are either on T&T or Dev contracts who have featured in team lists this season: Austin Dias, Thomas Freebairn, Brandon Tumeth, Nu Brown.
Fainu is in your list twice, so we have an extra spot to fill.

He is potentially a very good player but he is also a fringe first grader. If you get him you get him for cheap and it's about giving him an opportunity.
He is only a kid played 31 games and not in a row coming back from major injury he is only upside and will be amazing after a full off season offer him 300K ayear for 3 years

Shuster is overweight and error prone you know the droppsies
I get Owen Craigie feels about this kid. Has the skills to be a superstar on pure raw talent, but I don’t know if he has the commitment off field to turn that into a great career. He came back super unfit and seems To have a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He’s too big for a long term 5/8, but could make a great back rower or ball playing lock.

Only seen schuster play once. He’s not a 6.
So obviously he’s unfit, overweight with an attitude problem, and we want to sign him to our environment ? Disaster written all over it.

Josh Feledy? A centre, any wraps on him or ? I have no idea

Feledy had some good wraps on him from others on here. Looks well built. Not sure if he’s been injured, but otherwise (and I could be wrong on this) he seems to have been banished by Manly from what I’ve seen for most of the year after he signed with us. No idea why they didn’t release him sooner considering they didn’t seem to be using him.

He's only 17/18 and the SG Ball (U/19's) season finished months ago.

The only age comp still ongoing at the moment is Flegg (U/21's) so it's a big step up in age, hence Manly not picking him.
Just an age thing rather than a banishment, I assume.

Making his debut off the bench for our Flegg team this weekend apparently.

Cronulla are in a battle to resign their backline 1 to 5 as of November 1.
Tied only till the end of 2023. B Xerri is also back from suspension.
How will Cronulla handle this ? Who could be our main target , should we go shopping in the shire ?

Id make a play for Xerri, he needs a change of park. Would be a smart pick up that could deliver more than what we offer. Redemption deal.

A recruitment drive without asking for to much , should no high quality players be available on the market . Xerri , Guler and JHoskings would be ideal without busting the bank.

We should target players on big contracts that are unhappy with their current club. Would be nice if players had their contracts diverted to us for 60% of the real value. eg Fifita and his brother in a package deal would be a good deal.

It took the likes of Asotasi , Crocker and Fletcher to finally see South’s turn their fortunes around, from cellar dwellers to challengers. IPap is very similar value to the WT as Asotasi was for Souths. We are building well. Keep IP at all costs.
