My take on this is different because when I first heard this I thought, no he has got to honour his contract,” Anasta said.

“Then he got sacked a few weeks later. I honoured the contract, but now I look back at it and I think it was a poor decision from me.

“If I had my time over it would have been in the best interests of me and the club not to go there because it wasn’t the right fit.


“I was taking hit ups off taps, which is one thing, but what I’m trying to say is if he doesn’t want to go there and he only went there because a coach wanted him for a specific role to play his part in that team.

“Sometimes motivation is solely because of the coach

So by that reasoning, every time there is a change at a club (be it the coach changes or a player changes) all contracts become null and void? What if a player you wanted to play with decides to move on after a year, does your contract become null and void because he was the only reason you came across. That is completely deluded and naive. Circumstances change all the time. If the coach is that big a concern then call it out in the contract!

What I'd like to see:

1. Sheens come out and say publicly:

"We respect Isaiah's commitments with his current Club until the end of this season. Then we look forward to Isaiah joining the Tigers for 2023 and beyond. We see him as an integral part of our Club's leadership towards our next premiership and the boys are excited for his arrival. We have been in contact with Isaiah's management in regards to recent media commentary and have advised that we are 100% committed to the contract and we have made significant roster decisions around Isaiah joining us. We have also been in contact with the NRL and Player's Association about ramifications for any party that partakes in unethical practices to have a player break a contract.

2. Then the NRL and Player's Association to come out and support this with what penalties could be for other parties (Clubs, Managers) that are found to try to persuade a Player out of an existing contract.

NB. Looks like the Player's Association has come out in support already.
