Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Once and for all we can't persist with plodders some guys have been cup level for a while now and if there no x factor evident by now there never will be . Tuki never will - Peachy used to be - Freebairn,Dias, Seyfarth cup level
Tamou passed it. Our 2 centers will never be class .
Laurie ,Douehi Naden have class although not showing at the moment
Madden maybe ok if in a top team with a top pack but behind this pack its hopeless . We need a massive rebuild starting with at least 4 forwards and 2 centers
Our centres are a disgrace. Neither can tackle, we will be in the doldrums for years.

It's not fantasy footy mate. You can't just let 7 or 8 go and get 5 or 6 top liners. No club does this. Not the Dogs and definitely not Melbourne or Penrith.

He can fill a role for a short time period and we can get better players around him plus we can use that money to get top liners or hold onto juniors who are top liners.

I wish we could do what you suggest. I wish it was that easy. We've signed 2 top liners for next year but there are no more on the market and getting them is hard.
The bulldogs got rid of 7 players from the latter part of 2021 season and purchased 8 that played this season, and still getting rid of a few more because room has to be made for a few more arrivals next season, and they are not the only team to ever have a purge.

look it up, they are not the only club to purge their team,

Question: How do we get rid of all our rubbish?
Dogs have taken two seasons to get rid of all players not wanted, and purchase the ones they do want, the team of current players they have at the moment will add KIKAU FROM PENRITH AND MAHONEY FROM PARRAMATTA NEXT YEAR,

AND LET ANOTHER COUPLE GO,

AND THEY ARE STILL FISHING.

Your post clearly stated bring in top tier players. Can you list out the 6 top tier players they've bought in ?

TPJ, JAC, Burton and who else ?

I'd love to do what you state but it's never happened in our history (and to my knowledge no club has ever been able to do this) and I can't see it happening now.

There is no doubt in my mind that Shines has completely screwed this season over with the support from Pascoe and the board. I'd be cool with that if improvement came next year and we could recruit a bunch of good players.

At the moment their record of singing players is zero. Api and IP who are fantastic signings were signed under Madge.

I'd be interested in hearing about 6 top tier potential recruits.

Sorry..but from a low base under Madge,Sheens is responsible for all the above & has plunged WTs into totally new depths of mediocrity..or worse
He needs to own his actions..and the ensuing results
Sheens can go back to wherever he wants to be in UK...tomorrow.
Difficult to say this..but Id rather have Flanno rite now

What's the point of going hard out like last year where talau and AD had season ending injuries and were a no show this season.

Players are being protected this season.

This season was gone a long time ago. Sounds like you need someone to blame and found your target.

Do the coaches and employees the past couple of season escape your criticism?

It would seem quite a few of our 'higher echelon' players have to be shown the door, contract or no contract. Other clubs can and have done it WT just have to bite the bullet. Especially if we are to have recruitment from within our own system surely for a couple of years we can have the cap hit required to get these loafers off the books and put in place cheaper local lads to replace them. Of the 30 slots probably only half would even make the cut to become mostly the lower half of the next new 30. Similarly so for the support staff.

BUT we have to be ruthless no legacy potential players, if they havent delivered the goods as a total package to meet requirements for club, their on field position and place in squad eg senior player, they're out.

I dont know when Pascoe's current contract as CEO ends but I'd at least be looking for a potential replacement then. Im not against him but he has been here a long time and I think fresh blood is needed there.

Any clean out, can only be successful because we actually have cap space and I also add we should not be shy of trying to recruit good players but only good players, no more bargain basement / John West reject fish.

Further more its probably worth teasing out the relocation opportunities to either Perth or Central Coast. My concern over this is protecting our existing local networks, junior clubs and competitions against predatory raids by neighbouring Dogs, Eels and Panthers.

EDIT- the baleful influence of the new Dolphins club recruiting for next season has already made recruitment of any good player on the market all but impossible, we have to go local for a while to build on, but sure try for the good ones on the market.

There was no "game"..just a Roosters training run!
Seriously, the Board are incompetent, but they entrusted footy matters (and outsourced them entirely)to Sheens
They are all responsible undoubtedly, but rite now its Sheens making the catastrophic decisions,so he's rightly in the crosshairs IMO

The board and Pascoe are responsible for handing everything over to Sheens but a lot on here have argued the board and Pascoe should do this. The argument is that the board and Pascoe have no business being involved in footy decisions.

I see it as judging Shines and how well he performs over the next couple of years.

They've stuffed this year up but as @tony soprano states it's the next couple of years that matter.

A lot of people want pascoe gone but noone mentions a good replacement.

I don't blame Madge for this season. We were always a bottom 4 team. The question was could we perform above that level. I think we've gone backwards due to the decisions Shines is making.

Let's see what happens though. Some teams have turned themselves around quickly and maybe we can as well.

The past 3 and half seasons madge has basically done nothing and escapes criticism due to the way he was sacked.

I just think it's incorrect to point the finger at sheens now. You'll have plenty of opportunity next year.

Yeah, I dont think he should be booted but at the correct time when contract time comes up, we should test the market and look. He still may be best, maybe not, we will never know unless we look.

Yeah I'd like to know some names that would make a real impact. I'm sure we could do with a more meticulous CEO. But really I am unqualified to know the CEO role at a NRL club.

We definitely got a long way to go to catch up with football operations, but again, don't know a ceo impact with football operations.

I guess from Sheens point of view he'd be happy as he had a lot less resources last time he was here

The reason I'm pointing the finger at Sheens is that he had taken the following actions since coming here:-

1. Sacked Madge.
2. Let Luc go.
3. Loaned out Gildart and Nofo.

These actions are all on Sheens and they've made us a worse team and some would state significantly worse.

Now I'll be extremely supportive of Sheens if for instance he signs Munster for next season but I can't see it happening.

We need some benefits in relation to the decisions that have been made above.

Admittedly I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. Maybe the players released or loaned out were bad influences.

You are right in that we have to see what happens next season.

We are though at a pretty low point.

Of course not,but weve been a 3rd quartile team for quite a while for good reasons.but this year weve plunged to uncontested wooden spooners due to a bewildering number of poor decisions orchestrated by Sheena .with absolutely nothing to suggest anything will change for several years
He's put his own reputation in front of his team...and worse still, there's more to come with his replacement

The board and Pascoe to me make decisions like signing Sheens or Madge or Taylor or whoever. You can't blame them for anything other than those decisions.

We are also operating with hindsight. Despite what punters state I bet the decisions to employ someone like Taylor wasn't that bad a decision at the time.

I think those moves put us ahead for next season.

Really, at this point all we can hope for is no season ending injuries to make matters worse.

Who cares if we come 9th or last really. Given the change of gard I think we needed to burn and start again.

Sheens did leave them to their own devices until the season was gone.

The more prep and planning, resources for next year the better. Like you said it's a big ugly job he has next season.
