Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sheens also made mention of the fact there has been an increased allocation to retaining our best juniors and referenced the U20s team being at the head of our Pathways. Surely this proactive approach should be acknowledged with more than the usual pitchforks.
This is undoubtedly a good thing, but it's not a point of difference. The team that put 70 on us the other day is leading the Flegg ladder - all the big clubs have large and very successful development programs.
It's taken us 20+ years to try and catch up - but we still need more if we're going to be a successful club.

I agree to a point but look at the Storm and Roosters, Their development plans are to cherry pick the best juniors from all clubs and NZ. When you don't have to invest in junior districts it makes junior recruitment so much easier. WTs U20s have beaten the Roosters twice this year so it appears to confirm our strategy.

I am of the view the NSWRL should be doing more for growth areas such as the Camden region, Oran Park and Badgerys Creek.

Exactly.

I get why Sheens has to be positive about the future because he is about to go into the firing line as the coach and he knows what's in store. He has to buy himself some time because if we continue to not be able to recruit FG players our success will be measured on FG results and his performance will be just as heavily scrutinized as the last coach, despite his supporters.

That is the flaw with Hastings at 7, he does not have the kicking game to get the ball into the corners, drop distance bombs into the 10m zone or kick 40-20s.

Brooks has the best all round kicking game in our team. Hastings has a more accurate kicking game closer to the line. AD has the best bomb but his overall kicking game is all over the place.

I'm not sure where you play Hastings. I don't know if I like him playing at 13 all season for 80 minutes per game.

Sheen's doesn't have to buy himself time, he has what 2yrs and then he is gone. The club will give him that regardless of results, it's what happens after that will be the bigger challenge with Benji already agreed & having the mantle.

I haven't seen many thinking Sheens will actually turn things around for next season let alone the one after.

It's clear Sheens won't focus on the now (this season has proved that) and he is just focusing on setting Benji up for success. Odds & History are very much against them though.

Meant buying time in the sense of not being judged on results based on another rebuilding stage covering his two year tenure. I expect some very salty pressers next year

Pascoe was just on SEN. Nothing overly exciting - just repeating the lines that we're making changes and focus on development etc.
The one point I did find interesting was his admission that the release of the players mid-term wasn't about salary cap relief, and more about opportunities for the players (Gildart and Nofo at least - Leilua didn't get mentioned). The coaching staff noted that both would be playing reserve grade for the forseeable future, so it was a chance for them to go somewhere else and play FG, and possibly finals football.
Both are expected back next year as they are under contract - though I guess he would say that, even if we were actively trying to move them.

If we are not going to resign Madden then I would go after Braydon Trindall for next year. He is now stuck behind Moylan for another 2 years with limited game time and only 23yrs old. I am not overly confident of keeping Doueihi or Hastings on our books beyond 23. I think Adam will go to Melbourne if he is offered a contract. I personally think that loaning our 2 players out has further dented our already very bad name as I see the players will realise that we are a highly unprofessional club after spending time at more successful clubs.

I see many comments about who we should recruit and how much cap we will have for 2023 . I agree the early transfers and loans means that we will probably have 400k +/- more cap than other clubs . Great but it seems we are dancing around the issues
Problem is there's a elephant in the room and that is --- the perception true or not that the atmosphere at the tigers is TOXIC . Justin,Lee and Tim need to ask and answer this question honestly and only then can you take steps to fix
If you don't recognise a problem you'll never fix the problem.
Get a happy hard-working joint and things will start going your way

Yep, I don't think Noffa or GIldart are in next years plans. And going by what he said looks we will be waiting till November for any external signings. So along couple of months ahead before anything to get excited about.

They'd be signings for 24....
Any for next year will be announced as they happen.

I think Madden has promise and I like him, but the club should be seriously thinking about whether or not he is the best back up half available. I rate Hawkins, Taafe and Trindall all equal if not better. Hawkins' kicking game alone puts him at the top for me.

Probably why he's still unsigned so close to next year....

There's plenty of decent back up halves around, Madden probably makes that list for mine.
Only just
- I'd rate the 2 Penrith Guys, The Guys you've mentioned better than him,
there's also the likes of Sullivan, Gamble and Salmon on par with him or there abouts....

If Noffa is not in next year's plans then why did we sign him for another 4 years. I cannot see us offloading him with his salary so I think he will be playing next year in the top grade.
