Coaches Corner

Besides all the negativity in this thread, there is a lot of revisionism. This was Maguire's roster and in any business, the keepers of the $ expect a return on their investment. I for one am looking forward to next year with Sheens, Marshall and Farah.
It wasn’t his roster at all.

You’re forgetting most of his innings was spent living on 2/3rds of a proper cap and he inherited a lot of factory.

Then as Hartigan said, the recruitment was done by Commitee.

Results since he was sacked have delivered us the spoon.

That’s as bad as it gets.

I’m not suggesting he is a superstar coach, but he was much better than his replacement and was never ever given proper ownership of the roster

To suggest anything else is convenient, fiction and absolute mistruth.

Whatever his issues, some decency and respect is due to Madge.

Imagine putting up with our management and board and having your job on the line for ages.

Player revolts and other garbage.

That's a great point Jad.
Would you put it past them that they did in fact do it for nothing.
Gee wouldn't Kent love to get a hold of that. 😬

The arrangement will understandably never be disclosed but you would sincerely hope it was a very large payment involved because if it was just a token payment in an attempt to put our club on a good light it was a complete disaster

My biggest disappointment in sacking Maguire is firstly, Sheens not taking control of the side for the rest of the year once he decided to take on the role for the next two, and secondly, the prior bringing in of a relative outsider in Kimmorley when established assistants were at the ready.

It is an old article, I posted it in context of the three amigos putting the band back together
Ah okay. The actual timestamp on the fox sports page indicates it's a new story. Didn't think NRL 360 was a thing back then.

Some really excellent points, I duff my fedora.

Tim’s excuse for sacking Madge was general garbage. He said he couldn’t see him being there in 2 years.

Well not many clubs can promise their current coach will be there in 2 years. You can probably count them on one paw.

And as I said yesterday, Tim is now describing himself as an “ interim coach” and he’s not planning to stay beyond 2 years.

That’s cutting it fine Tim.

By his own standards, hes in the mix to sack himself.

Seems like he hasn’t lifted a claw to help Madge or Noddy. Not much courage.

If anyone can nominate just one decision that Tim has made that has been helpful, constructive and progressive, one that is known, I will turn full shill for 48 hours.

Please post it here. Just one. Please justify the $300k or whatever he’s been stuffing into his wallet, his numerous saviour appearances and to date, unfulfilled promises.

Come on @stryker 69 , it will be like the old days when I trusted the squeaky freaks running the club. When Pascoe was seen as a Mother Teresa type in drag.

No offence to our Catholic buddies here, she was the real deal living angel.

Sheens advised Maguire had oversight of players, the roster and was a part of that player selection committee.

Why don't you turn your attention to the positive news which Sheens advised the other day in the press

Additional funding in coming years has been announced by Sheens for junior development. This will translate into additional resources to identify, retain and develop our local juniors. Also, additional funding has been made available to secure the best of our U20s. I believe we have secured many of the Wests HM players and Balmain SG Ball players. We also have a number of good junior QLD players who have played or will play for Wests SG Ball before moving to U20s.

There are lots of changes occurring at the club and I am excited about its future. As a Balmain supporter, I supported the amalgamation due to the vast potential of the Campbelltown and Macarthur Regions to secure WTs long term future. In the negativity surrounding Maguire's departure, these initiatives appear to have been ignored by some on this forum.

The additional funding wouldn't have been available except for Justin Pascoe.

You just said above that Madge was “ part of the player selection committee”

That’s some distance and directly contradicts your earlier assertion a short time ago that “This was Madge’s roster”

You can’t have it both ways, which one is the truth?

That’s just not fair on Madge.

The Boards track record on additional funding is to waste it with horrific decisions.

I’m quite happy to support the board and management if they can me one reason to.

May I remind you, we are coming last. We are the worst team in the NRL and I think the people who delivered this need to be held accountable.

To pin this on Madge is wrong in fact, unnecessary and I believe disrespectful.

Why don’t you retract this mistruth?

With so many examples of failure, why die on the lonely, barren and burnt out hill of the club propaganda?

bStep out into the light.
The trajectory under Madge was down with his roster. The result this year now is irrelevant although you appear determined to apportion blame to those now doing their best to turn the club around.

What is relevant are the changes the club is making for the better. You can chose to be sad or take a positive approach. I chose the latter and have faith in Sheens.

I have amended my comment to take you straight to point.

You attempted to blame Madge for the roster imperfections which in all of the circumstances I found to be mischievous, unbecoming and quite untruthful.

I have invited you to correct the record which you have declined. That is a matter for you. You post as you choose.

My apportionment of blame to the board and management is thoroughly deserved and based in fact.

To have faith that the same people who got us into this hell will somehow pull us out of it, seems ambitious and unrealistic to me and many others.

I could not, in good conscience, allow or permit the disparaging remarks about Madge to remain unchallenged on this occasion. A dissenting remark was apt.

The sacking of Madge, has not aged well at all.

You can disagree all you like but the club held Maguire accountable. Let that resonate.

If you have a great roster, the players only need their kit, a training paddock, gym and some methylsalicylate.. that's it!
Players make coaches. Dud players can destroy coaches.
If we are going to be successful we need most of our resources poured into pathways, keep our cap under control and recruit players like Api. It's not hard surely.
Ah methylsalicylate, used to use it on my slot car tyres at the end of the 60's, that was before they came up with Moo 2 or Moo Goo or something like that.

You put dencorub on your slot car tyres?
Now that's hot rubber 🤣

Nice thread glad to see all the positivity can't wait to see see the 3 of them commence the respective roles next year ❤️
If you can get positivity out of this season then you should be a faith healer.

I'm looking forward to the 3 starting up their jobs next year also. Hopefully they can achieve something decent together to erase this absolute trainwreck of a season.
