It's an extremely depressing statement. Sheens should shut up. Immediately dismissing the idea of signing a high quality player because we have 17 year olds and a bunch of failures.

Nothing should get in the way signing elite players.

It's likely a reputation management strategy which isn't too bad considering we're currently on a recruitment drive and sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Plus who could forget how things went with Latrell. The media had a field day. Then Doeuihi and Hastings are also currently in negotiations with the club. So it's best we do it in a way in where we don't drive those players away either or otherwise we'll have no one.
He's been totally transparent with our plans to develop from within - to build our talent pool, but that's it's also imperative to gain high calibre or experienced players to help with this. He's often repeated this is years away from fruition too (juniors and rebuild).

There's nothing wrong with being coy about our recruitment and retention plans IMO.

We have zero chance of signing Munster however much we offered the guy. Anasta, his agent, isn't a WT fan, to put it mildly, and he'll get all the cash he wants anyway from either the Storm or from the Dolphins.

I agree, but there was nothing coy about the statement. It was an emphatic denial that we would even be interested in such a player, and that we're all good building from within.

Probably should've worded it better but meant more with the media. Believe they're just like us and wanna know the ins and outs of a cat's arse - re😱ur plans and specifically targets.
Believe he's doing everything in effort to have it right for when Benji takes over.

It’s smart actually given our history. Build up the kids but keep any significant talk behind scenes

Munster talk has been all behind scenes with sniffs coming out for Storm/Dolphins but nothing of substance in the media thats how the star contracts are normally handled.

I take a different and realistic view. After the last (nearly) 4 years it is going to take take time to turn around results, culture and level of skill. I am trying not to be too negative but I hope I never witness a WTs' team playing robotic football again.

If I see players working as a team, team performances improving (even if we don't win), individual skills of our roster improving, players being encouraged to use instinctive play (especially fullback, halves, lock and hooker), leadership skills being developed in the squad, improved defence and improving ability to "win the big moments in a game", I will be satisfied.

This was consistent with my view under the previous Coach.

Yea we should just offer him 600k so when he says no the media will just say we low balled him. The offer ( if true ) of 7 mill over 5 years puts it out there that we will pay good money to genuine superstars and game breakers.

Nah Paws your just like most of us you have favourites that you can find excuses for and others not.
The realistic view is that they are all or have been on a hiding to nothing until someone/or the system allows us to assemble a roster able to compete in FG - something that we consistently fail to do.

Hooper has lost all credibility with his Munster story beginning with "the way we've heard it the Tigers are talking about". Some unnamed Tiger who can't talk to Munster before November 1st told someone who told Hooper? This reeks of cash for comments with Hooper passing on Anasta's rubbish to the media without naming him as the source and getting him deregistered. From the Tigers point of view it's borderline libel.
