It's likely a reputation management strategy which isn't too bad considering we're currently on a recruitment drive and sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Plus who could forget how things went with Latrell. The media had a field day. Then Doeuihi and Hastings are also currently in negotiations with the club. So it's best we do it in a way in where we don't drive those players away either or otherwise we'll have no one. It's an extremely depressing statement. Sheens should shut up. Immediately dismissing the idea of signing a high quality player because we have 17 year olds and a bunch of failures.
Nothing should get in the way signing elite players.
He's been totally transparent with our plans to develop from within - to build our talent pool, but that's it's also imperative to gain high calibre or experienced players to help with this. He's often repeated this is years away from fruition too (juniors and rebuild).
There's nothing wrong with being coy about our recruitment and retention plans IMO.
