Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just read Woods is extending his stay at Dragons .He activated an option in his favour in his contract .Even someone not really wanted because of age not coming home to WT
We are the only club with no news on signings .

There is zero chance of making the top 8 next year if your only plan to improve our roster is thru the juniors . That might work for 2025 season
I’m as negative as anyone about the clubs future after the coaching debacle this year but Woods not coming is a positive for us IMO.

Maybe he did or he didn't, them signing him would suggest that he would say that, it's besides the point, my argument is that the club must give it's fans proper explanations about each of these sort of signings.
That's not a realistic expectation. We are going to lose juniors - lots of them. The simple fact is that we have two local catchment areas, as well as whatever we recruit from other areas (e.g. Qld schools system, NZ, Country NSW).
That's a lot of kids coming through.
We will naturally prioritise some over others, and the those passed over will inevitably seek opportunities elsewhere. By the same token, we'll pick up plenty of kids from other systems that are looking for a second (or even third) chance.

Young would appear to fall into this category - someone looking for an opportunity elsewhere given roadblocks in his path at WT. It's not the end of the world.

Didn’t people say the same about mavoni tuifua last year?

Gus is smart but he doesn’t make every correct call.
Young was the player who scored the winning try in the infamous Leichhardt Oval match between GPS rugby teams St Joseph’s and Riverview when one of the railings at the eighth wonder of the world collapsed.
He literally brought the house down at LO!!

Juniors are and always will be one of the most important things to get right in regards to retention and recruitment. You can never keep them all even the good ones because another club will offer more to get them to leave but you do need to get your priorities right in regards to doing your utmost to keep the majority of them.
This is something we have failed to do for the entirity of our existence as WT,it sounds easy to do but is very difficult and our record as a club is probably one of the worst in the NRL.
Get it right and better results will follow

As far as supposedly available props for 2023, who would you prefer out of Andrew Fifita, Klemmer, Frizell, Woods, or Tamou? If you could only pick one...

Gus did say a couple of weeks ago on 100% footy, the Bulldogs are going to be like the roosters and sign 16/17 year olds from other clubs

AD's body language of late tells me he's going. Tigers desperate attempt to keep him was to give him the captaincy for the last two games.
Still my gut feeling is he wont accept any position other than ⅝.
I must be immune to all this... I don't really care atm, as long as we are better next year.
We shouldn't be held to ransom by any player. If we think he's a 5/8 then we sign him as one. Frankly no one in our current squad should be dictating anything after the disgraceful year they have had. If AD wants to go, then beat it. I like him as a player but he's no world beater.

Don’t know much about this school boy ..From Fox “
For all the rugby union huff and puff about opening the $10 million cheque book to target NRL players the elbow patch brigade might want to get their own backyard in order first.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have landed a significant body blow on rugby union and Wests Tigers by jagging the signature of the son of Wallaby forward Bill Young, Patrick Young.

A lock forward for the Balmain Tigers in the Harrold Matthews Competition, Young is regarded as a similar prototype to Cameron Murray at South Sydney with the Bulldogs quietly celebrating having landed the young gun’s signature on a two-year deal as a development player from 2023.

Young was the player who scored the winning try in the infamous Leichhardt Oval match between GPS rugby teams St Joseph’s and Riverview when one of the railings at the eighth wonder of the world collapsed.

Anyway the Bulldogs have landed a strong emerging player in the son of the former Wallaby forward.”

Is he really a big loss?

He’s contracted for next year so won’t be going anywhere

Frizell but he isn't a prop. Klemmer second on that list. After that I'd go for Tamou.

The thing is I think we are looking at current players whereas the Tigers may be looking at juniors coming through.
When I think of props I think of someone charging at the D or puting on some big hits against similar bodies.
The names mentioned, Frizell, Woods, Klemmar, Tamou and Fifita don't really fall into this category for me but if I could choose who we could snare I would go for Frizell.
Frizell is still capable of providing rep quality football.
He's very professional and because he's a solid athletic hombre he would avoid injury imo.
The other four don't give me confidence that they could stay uninjured for 2 years.

And that's only if the so called Juniors develop into 1st grade players...and that's a big IF?
