Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Outgoing from 2022 squad
Leulua ,Mikhalae ,Garner , Tuilagi , Madden , Liddle , Nu brown, Roberts
Tamou ,
Reggies level unsuccessfully tried in NRL
Dias , Freebairn ,
I'm hoping Pole and Matamua can develop eventually into top grade regulars
It will take time
Definite incoming Korisau ! Not convinced Papalli coming
So the squad that finished last loses 9 and 2 more not cutting it and we are gaining 1 maybe 2
So we start with spoon and are down about 10 so unless some Tim magic brings in a few stars we will be in a string of spoons .
Sure, but last year we were missing Blore, talau and Douhi for the majority of the season.
Still the spoon stills beckons.

From 'The Mole'

Benji Marshall faces the first crucial test of his leadership and diplomacy skills in coming weeks.

Benji is keen to bring local junior Mitchell Moses back to the Tigers from Parramatta and sees him as the answer to the club's play-making problems.

But some senior officials at the Tigers don't want Moses back - he wasn't a good fit at the club in his first stint there and he isn't a popular figure with Tigers players.

Only a few weeks back, he took a blatant dive when barely touched by Tigers debutant Justin Matamua, who was promptly sent to the sin bin and placed on report … and subsequently cleared.

Benji must weigh-up the other aspects that go into signing a player besides ability - the great coaches mould teams built on harmony and comradeship as well as talent.

Moses, meanwhile, has put talks with the Eels on hold until after the club finishes its playing commitments, and there is a big chance he will head to the November 1 negotiations deadline day unsigned.

Dragons eye Tigers prop

The Dragons are keen to sign Tigers prop Zane Musgrove for next season.
Musgrove is on contract at Concord for two more years but the Tigers may let him go to the Big Red V if the two clubs can do a deal.

The Dragons are desperate for more size up front - they lost Daniel Alvaro to French club Toulouse mid-year and Tariq Sims (Melbourne) and Josh McGuire (Warrington) at the end of the season.

To date, they have yet to sign a player for 2023 and there are few big men on the market, hence their interest in Musgrove.
Please please please. (Musgrove)

He's no gun, But he's also playing in a super ordinary team....
He offers something a bit different to the likes of Stefano, Twal and Pole...
Improve the team 10-20% you probably find you improve Musgrove enough to want him around.

Props never used to come on until 27-28 they used to say - There's the exception to the rule obviously....
He's no starter, But I wouldn't be letting him go unless we're signing much, much better.
Especially if it's going to cost us.
Dragons are a weird one, They seem to be only signing players they can get with another club chipping in.

Hindsight tells us not many players in the squad progressed for the last few years
- Musgrove was out for a year before that...
I'm holding at this point.

ps: It's really tiring having most here assuming these "Kids" (most know nothing about)
are going to teach themselves the riggors of NRL.
#Joke
To be frank, I’d prefer Woods over Musgrove and that’s saying something. I don’t care how aggressive he wants to look or think he is. He is not the player at 26-27 I want the team to look up to to lead the forward pack.

So far as I can see the off-season is all outgoing or retiring and incoming is all speculation. Suggest we don't let any more go till we know for sure who if anyone is coming . Especially keep the few that can be match winners on their day Thats Hastings .Douehi and Brooks who I admit calling him a match winner is a stretch . We desperately need at least one center ,Edge forward and a big front rower to match Steph .Yet to see evidence of players of note wanting to come so hold fire on the releases till we get some good news
Cant build team on suggestions and pipe dreams
Nope …. you clear the decks first. Create space.
What you guys and girls need to do is just WAIT until uncle Sheens and his merry crew are finished with our 2023 roster.
No matter how much noise you make is not going to get this go any faster.
JUST BE BLOODY PATIENT for you lollies.

In a year if injury free - Stefano hits 50+ games, Pole could be in his 30 games, Twal close to 150 and Joffa 170+ - all of which younger than Musgrove.

It's a good point. They are all good players and better than Musgrove. The thing is to me Musgrove is one of our two big props.

Maybe a small pack with good ball movement can win more games ? Maybe Stef will be fit and firing all season and do that job for us.

so out of your list of players which are Props, not middles?, and your time frame for this blessing?and unfortunately Utoikamanu, granted has been injured but has gone backwards. and Schoolboys is a lot different to the weekly NRL.
I say middles because who knows what type of middle Sheens will play in the front row.

Myself, I do hope we develop some powerful fast-at-the-line props to provide impact. That's what I believe Herman to be down-the-track.

Yeah the timeframe for this blessing as you call it is over the long-term and to introduce them while some experience is in there with them (Offa, Twal, whoever we may recruit).

You seem to be forgetting the players that have already taken spots out of the players going/gone...

Rua, Pole, Reilly, Fainu... All top 30 next year.
Said it before - Will say it again...

There's not as much room in top 30 as everyone assumes there is.
We're short on functional Props, Back Rowers and Centres
Haven't forgotten, we'll probably be able to bring in 3-4 more from other clubs for next season and they will be for a purpose to help develop the culture & style TS, BM & RF employ.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's John Bateman for 2 seasons, Andrew Fifita for 1 season, Charlie Staines for 2+ & perhaps Brad Parker for 2+ (as I saw that rumour a few weeks ago).

Times are different but Sheens did bring in Buettner & Sattler for a purpose back in the day too.

My opinion is that we aren't going to be signing many players for next season.

I think we need edge backrowers desperately. We have IP and Blore/Kautoga and maybe Tumeth. Sheens mentioned Blore moving to the middle and that might work as well. Even if you play Blore on an edge if we can get 1/2 season out of him it'd be huge.

The big decisions though have to be made on Brooks, Doueihi, Laurie and Hastings. That is where the money will go. Do you get Munster or Moses (if possible) and let go of 2 out of the guys we have on contract.

We are praying kids will carry us. I like it.
To be fair these kids are some of the very top juniors in the country. Can't throw them all in at once obviously, but i imagine most if not all the players mentioned previously will play first grade next year, and if not the year after.

No way Moses comes back here. So Musgrove leaves.....another spot that will be filled by a Reserve Grader or Development player. 2023 will be worse than 2022.

The more we can offload or not re-sign who we know don't provide anything of substance to our mid to long term future is GREAT!

Peachey, Liddle, Kei, Tamou, Roberts, Gildart, Musgrove, Tuilagi, Garner, Madden (possibly others)

With the vacant spots & salary cap, we then be patient and fill these roster spots with our top juniors; players that fill a need and bring the required attitude, capability & leadership; or, elite players in spine/middle positions.
So we become bottom 4 for the next 3 years and those gun juniors get sick of playing in a crap side and know their development has stalled, and move elsewhere. 2017 will happen all over again.

All Fairness taken into account.... Already.
They're not going to teach themselves to play Footy!!
Surrounding them with 'Real Nice" older fellas won't help either...
If you don't want to listen to me, I point you to the Wests Tigers Results from Seasons 2012-2015

The best juniors going - some generational players even...
Simona, Sironen, Tedesco, Woods, Brooks, Moses... A heap of U20's best team.

Summary = Surround the best kids you can find with nothing and no-ones all you like
but that's exactly what we'll all end up with.
None of the other successful teams are doing it this way - Bar Penrith (Arguably)
Outside that, how has it ever worked?
