Watching the near collapse of the British economy over the last week has been astounding, even if unsurprising personally.

Still though struggle to believe that just like here, so many could have still been fooled by the rhetoric of media barons (or viscounts) and their puppets to promote trickle down economics, and who push it through the fear of racism and bigotry.

They had already hobbled their people by the always going to be disastrous Brexit, now dropping them to their knees with further disastrous policies, including borrowing to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and the super profits of energy companies.

Was working with a poor family today. Cannot afford to feed the kids and keep the heating on. So i did what any caring person would do and i got into my car and drove to the most expensive house i could find in town. Wacked a couple of hundred in the letter box...i'm sure it will trickle down to the family i was working with soon

Ho hum, ho hum, Col likes to lick Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon's b.... Meanwhile, in addition to an ever increasing number of food banks, UK councils and charities are preparing "warm" banks for even the working poor that already have to attend the former this winter, but hey, "Ho Hum".

How good was it to not have our finance minister recently not rule out changes to franking credits and capital gains tax, nor on repealing the somewhat similarly targeted income tax changes scheduled here?

Ridiculous proposals included "retrospective " taxes going back to 2016.

Absolutely unheard of.

If we are going to do that may as well ask people to pay tax on their home price profits they made a few years ago or income tax increases retrospectively applied .

Let's hope it is a one term government

I don't usually like becoming too involved with political agendas but this landed in my inbox and I did feel a little annoyed that our citizenship is constantly being eroded, this is just another example..

" A fundamental principle of our democracy is that Australian citizens decide who governs our country, not citizens of other countries.

Yet Labor wants to change this, by extending voting to New Zealand citizens living in Australia?

This change was reportedly discussed between Anthony Albanese and Jacinda Ardern in July. [1]

Now it is part of the terms of reference for the Parliament's inquiry into our electoral system.

Having citizens of other countries vote in our elections would be a fundamental change to Australia’s democracy.

Labor has no mandate for this change, which they didn’t mention before the election.

Why extend voting rights to non-citizens from one country, but not others?

Would Labor then go further and extend voting rights to non-citizens from other countries?

You can have your say by making a submission to the Parliamentary inquiry.

This can be done by sending an e-mail to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, at this address: em@aph.gov.au

Submissions should include your name, address and contact number (which won’t be published). They can be as long or short as you like, so long as it’s relevant to the topic. Submissions are due by Friday 7 October.

More information about making submissions is available on the Committee website.

While New Zealand is clearly one of Australia’s closest friends and partners, it is an important principle that Australian elections should be decided by Australians.

The Liberal Party will stand up for Australia’s democracy and fight this change.

Thank you.

interesting you won't find that in the 6pm news bulletin ...

Thatcheresque/Reagan-trickle down economics doesn't work.
Privatization Is the bain of this
Nation, along with corruption.
Would be great to see us move
Freely but that won't ever work
Reagan Thatcher policies were really designed to by the west with twin aims.

1) To impoverish the western middle classes in order to usher in globalization.

2) To weaken the appeal of socialism and the Soviet Union by spreading "you can make it ideas" of unfettered materialism you know Dynasty and Dallas.

Sadly it worked for them and we lost out.

It's not even liberalism but ultra conservative.

I want politics that empower people and respect nations. Rare.

The New Zealanders living and working here pay taxes why shouldn’t they vote? How does it erode your citizenship? Please explain, haha.

The more people are invested in their community the better and Australia gains nothing from shutting them out. Next time there’s an election go and have a look at who’s voting and you want to stop the New Zealanders from having a say. They’re our closest ally. We need closer ties for mine.

Please leave me out of the emotive bullshit, it has nothing to do with my statement.
Let me ask you a question?
What unique benefits does Australian Citizenship include?

Not fussed either way on the voting part, well, at least as long as there is a reasonable longevity of stay attached to begin with. Tending to support it on such and similar basis', firstly because we have a compulsory voting system and that we force so many genuine refugees to be kept on temporary visas, with no path to citizenship.

Deportation of Kiwis that are Australians in all but citizenship upon finishing sentences, is though a policy that needs to be addressed immediately. It is so bloody wrong to send people with no connection to another country, after living all their memories here and serving their penance.

What emotive shit do you mean? You mean the please explain? Mate it was an attempt at humour and I didn’t think people still took Poorline seriously.

What unique benefits should we have as Australians? Voting ain’t that good, surely? Not being able to get back into the country during Covid was a bit of a shock. Some of us poor Australians were stuck overseas for 2 years. But that’s another story, I guess. If you want to be serious about it, maybe you shouldn’t let all those people with more than one citizenship vote?

The problems facing the UK now and the US (to a lesser extent Australia) in 6 to 9 months are literally the opposite to Reagan/Thatcher/Hawke/Keating/Keynesian economics. UK and US are suffering from massive inflation due to massive overspending, poor fiscal policy (initially understandable due to Covid) pumping trillions into an overheated economy. The unavoidable consequence of pumping cash into a hot economy is always rampant inflation and that is what is happening now.

If spending isn’t reeled in (it’s not) the only remedy is massive increases in interest rates. Where the rubber hits the road is that these economies (as well as ours) are addicted to debt and now the interest rates on that debt will cripple them and us.

This current pain is because it is now time to pay the piper. For years now progressive governments tell us that “modern monetary policy” is the way to go and there is nothing wrong with a deficit, well here come the fruits of that ideology. Debts need to be paid on increased interest due to poor fiscal and monetary policy for decades.
LITERALLY the opposite of Reagan and Thatcher. What the world needs right now is a Reagan/Thatcher/Hawke/keating keynesian approach but it is too late and our kids will pay the price.
