I think I called it for what it was.

Bad recruitment on high salaries for long contracts.

Since Sheens left our pathways have been neglected.

Back-ended contracts (under Sheens).

We seem to have learnt from the mistakes of the past because on the surface these things have or are being addressed.

We probably have more in common than you think about how the club has been run. Check my post history. For every positive, I will happily outline the negatives.

Iā€™m just optimistic about the future with Sheens and Benji until such time as they give me reason not to be, but no doubt we need a few things to go our way.

That doesnā€™t mean I donā€™t think anyone elseā€™s concerns about Sheens are invalidā€¦itā€™s a topic that was always going to have differing opinions. I guess what we can all agree on though is that time will tell.

Iā€™m realistic enough to realise that regardless of our opinions, it all comes from the right place which is we want the Tigers to be successful.

Thereā€™s always one or two that go against the grain, but I think your assessment is not how it went down.

In fairness to the club, we already had Hastings, Brooks and Doueihi + Laurie at fullback.

In the context of our squad and the positions we needed to fill, we looked at other options.

In fact, I think we were offering Mitchell and Addo-Carr at the time.

There were plenty on here saying Hynes was slow and rubbish and not good enough for us. No coincidence that alot of the perpetrators are the same blokes who consistently defend Luke Brooks and try and persuade people that he can play

Overall, I think the club is more astute in managing the cap. Player selection has been the issue of lateā€¦

Cleary picked 4 duds on big salaries which killed us for 3-4 years. Add Brooks who is being paid well above his worth and you have the 2022 Wests Tigers in a nutshell.

Finally, we are 1 year away from clearing the mess that was created by Ivan (mainly the Brooks contract) and we have some decent money to hit the market with.

Api and Papi are good value signings for what they will bring. The club did exceptionally well there.

The current Brooks contract was signed under Maguire's tenure

This. It was the usual Brooks fanboys who did what they always do the moment thereā€™s someone who could replace him. They make passive aggressive comments and try to tear down the player. With Hynes, they said he was a system player.

Now heā€™s the reigning Dally M player of the year and lead his team to the finals and is an all round top bloke. Meanwhile, weā€™re stuck with a mute halfback who hasnā€™t made finals in his entire career and lacks the basic skills of a first grade halfback.

paws, Jedi et al are all Brooks fans first, Tigers fans second. Too damn arrogant to admit they backed the wrong horse and would see the team suffer.

So the reason we didnā€™t sign Hynes is a handful of forumers didnā€™t want him because of their love for Brooks?

If you only take into account our position on the table, we may have been better in the short term but he was a major part of the long term pain to follow. His, and the club's letting him, over-spending put us in financial difficulties and the long years of suffering that have followed. Sheens was directly resonsible for the stupid decisions that followed but he played a huge part in the initial stuff ups.

I don't get this hate for Sheens. He presided over the only decent era of WT footy. We were crap before he came and crap after he left. When he was here we won the comp, probably should have won it twice!
