Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

For a bit of fun read the 33 replies, Supporters are as in the dark as we are about signings but just won premierships in 4 grades with the “best pathways” in the league.
Why would we let Simpkin go if we’ve already offloaded Liddle and possibly Nu Brown, unless Simpkin is saying I don’t want to be the regular Reggie’s hooker and Sheens can see some leverage in it?
But surely we need some insurance to cover for API. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Simpkin is 20 years old. Frankly, at a better club he'd be getting minimal game time if any. He needs more time to develop. Even Harry Grant came to us at 22 and had much bigger wraps on him than Simpkin.

I don't see anything in Simpkin that would suggest he'll be anything other than a solid first grader if that.

Rua Ngatikaura looks a better prospect in my humble opinion. We might get a chance to see him play in the World Cup for Cook Islands.

Crichton re-signed Nanai re-signed...more a list of players we should never ....ever go near for love or money

It’s been quoted, I’m sure there is even an interview regarding it.
The panthers made the ambitious decision to be the best nrl club in a decades time. Gus said to Matt Cameron in 2012 if we were to achieve this what do we need, you have a blank canvas to create this. The academy was built and the elite pathways was established.
This was a decade ago. I’m pleased to hear our club has finally caught on a decade later.

That’s all well and good - the post I replied to said or implied in the least Gus had nothing to do with it.
How could you claim the guy who cherry picked the right people to create his vision “had nothing to do with creating it”?

It doesn't look good. It'll be interesting to see the squad we end up with prior to the first game of the season next year.

I don't know where the signings are going to come from.

THey will come but the reality is we are competing with Dolphins filling their squad- every available player agent will be playing off clubs seeking to fill their final spots despite the player being off less than stellar capabilities at this stage of events. Having said that the other opportunity might just be the player trade between clubs- the talks with Bulldogs and Panthers might give us some slightly better / better players than those we are willing to trade. We still have no great idea on the players at the centre of trade talks beyond Peachey. Sheens did say at season end there will be a few players tapped on the shoulder. Lord knows the squad depth isnt great- anything to improve on the plodders there now in the 20-30 spot area, they had a chance this season to shine with the dreadful injury toll but didnt.

FWIW I'd offer Talau a 2 year contract extension with the specific purpose of developing him more into a backrow forward come centre role.

PS Ive got a terrible feeling WT will not re-sign Hastings. The wait has opened the field to others and I think Hastings has not exactly been showered with love and appreciation by Sheens compared to Brooks. Reckon if Brooks stays for '23 as half, Hastings might just go. In many ways it depends on how much he really likes being thrown in at lock which under Sheens seems to be his future at WT. The workload is great and the body takes a greater toll but we dont know his real feelings. If he buys into the picture developing under Sheens, great, if he doesnt like t, he's out.

Great post. On Hastings, his NRL career was resurrected by WTs, so I'd be surprised if he left.
