Very interesting that Staines is for 1 year only. A mere stop-gap solution it seems. Appears even the WT's dont see him as a viable long-term replacement. Maybe waiting for Teddy to recommit lol.

I don't want to piss on anyones parade, but the reason we were able to get Staines is:

1) Both players were willing to swap clubs
2) Both clubs were willing to swap players

No other club offered Staines anything. Staines was lucky to get a deal given his salary.

Players don't improve significantly in 6 months - watch some Penrith games from this year and you can expect more of the same with our club next year.

I really don't get why people expect players to become better when they sign with us. The bigger and very real risk is they become worse.

Glad it's only a one year deal.

The only departing player I will miss is Luke Garner

He’s be waiting to get a feel for the tigers once the season starts before making any decisions

Exactly. The way I look at it the club is writing off $350k which was 🍑's salary. Then it's a case of paying a bit above the written off amount to actually get a player which is useful for the squad. Smart play not keeping Staines on longer on the same coin.

Re Staines, happy to give him a go first before I death ride him. All I care about is that he is significantly better than Peachy so all in all a great swap.

Given that Penrith were desperate to offload him given the fact they overpaid him massively after 3 games and that we were the only club willing to eat that contract, we have time on our side.

In someways the squad had had upgrades, in our backrow & frontrow so far we are worse off & that is a major issue.

Yes. I have not had such hope since we signed packer, matulino & Reynolds. The future is bright.
