Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

" Keeping Brooks, AD and JH together as that worked best 2022. "
They only played 2 games in that combination, lost to a reserve grade side and lost to a side that just went through the motions ( strong argument to say we won that game ).
The good sides will soon work out the 2 running 5/8s strategy and then we'll be left with nothing, another spoon beckoning.

I'm not stating we are going to get the spoon but there isn't enough evidence to say this approach will work.

I'm pretty confident Brooks is gone and that changes the situation as well.

This team is entirely possible for 2023

Staines

Nofo/T'oa

Naden

Kepoa/Talau

Ken/Tupou

Douehei

Brooks?Laurie

Hastings

Papi

Blore/?

Klemmer/Stef

Api

Leniu/Pole

Joffa, Twal, Rua, Matamua, Seyfarth,

Keeping Brooks, AD and JH together as that worked best 2022.

That pack looks 3 x more intense than 2022 with a superior hooker.

There's enough speed and size in the backline, only question is with Sheensball, can any of them hold the ball long enough to be effective?

If we seriously manage to get Klemmer & Leniu over the line we'd have a fearsome pack, probably still a second rower light but maybe one of the cubs comes to the fore. For that to happen Brooks and or Ken would probably have to be sacrificed for cap reasons potentially.
There has been 2 suggestions in the past few days that both Klemmer & Leniu are on board so interesting times to see if the oil is on the money.

Awesome article... I love going back to focusing on attack. Even when we lose games, at least they were more entertaining to watch! No more 5 hit ups followed by a bomb every set 🙂

I don't think you can win consistently without being able to attack. Cleary had us defending great and playing dour footy and we won games early in the season but when teams started to get it together we couldn't go with them.

Likewise, Gould has said similar about Staines. In that when he was debuting on the wing but he is at home at fullback and it’s a matter of time that he is a first grade fullback.
Makes me wonder though both Laurie and Staines wouldn’t cost you the bank. Despite Gus waxing lyrical about the two players why hasn’t their been interest from the Dogs?
Laurie could form a lethal partnership with Burton in the halves and Staines would be more solid then Avarilo as a fullback.
It’s like he endorses these players for certain teams, but when it comes to his own roster there’s other players he’d look at first.
If tigers sign up the likes of staines and Laurie then there’s less chance tigers can go after the players Gould wants. Just like when Gould was going into bat for Madge. He doesn’t care except that tigers were now in the hunt for ciraldo as well…which was in inconvenient, he’d have to work harder to land his fish.

A over and end bomb by Brooks usually that does nothing. Hastings started doing it too.

What I would give to get a fast play the ball and a little chip to the corner like Thurston used to do all the time

People have to understand you just cant be 'Lets just sign premium players uleh' or 'lets look for moneyballs uleh' because you have to understand how a squad works.

You know how so many people is gender fluid now? That is how you have to be in your mind when discussing the salary cap.

This is all a balancing act and imperfect science and you have to be maleable.

We can go for a top shelf player like Klemmer or Crichton, with the same intensity as wanting a wade graham or David Hollis.

For every 700k player you need a moneyball 200k player. That is how squads are.

Cap next yr is 11mil.

11 mil divided by 30 be 366 large.

So for every dollar a player earns over that another player needs to earn under at least
I think absolutely everyone on here knows this
