Charlie Staines #262

Yes from a few years ago now but some time in fullback.

Welcome to the tigers staines!
I'm still wondering where Staines will end up.
I'm hoping it's not insurance for AD leaving. This talk about Laurie to ⅝ and Staines to fullback is interesting.
When we out of the race for the 8 this year, I thought that it could have been a good time to experiment with Daino.
Staines has got a bit more pace to also put pressure on our centres for spots.

What it does tell me is there's starting to be an NRL std of players competing for positions.
If you don't train well you don't make it that week, noffa included.
Simple 😉

I would like to see some good combinations forming between centre and winger week in week out with some talk and understanding.

I don't hate Laurie at 5/8 ...guess we'll see.

I would just like to see some stability in the outside backs like BrissyTiger said.
Staines and Naden in the centres and looks like Noffa( boot him ) and Ken on the wings. Although have my doubts that either wing could keep up with their inside man but at least build up some workable combinations.

Naden and Staines as centres to start off
Daino at fullback
that’s a bit of pace for a change and sheens will go all out attack I think
it will be couple hit up then throw that pill around

That's a really good suggestion and I think that would be really promising if Staines can handle defensive duties of centre.

Noffa is still a classy finisher.

I'm predicting a good season if we can get some go forward up front

This lack of quality and players who are position specialists is the problem with our squadis the problem with our squad.

Naden is a better winger than centre, because he can focus on attack more in open play and his awful defence isn't as noticable on the wing as in the centres where he gets brutally exposed.

Staines is a fullback, who can fill in on the wing a bit too. Definitley not a centre.

Kepaoa is an enigma trapped in a riddle. If he can stay fit who know what he'll become. More of a centre but he's much better in attack than defence, and his attack still isn't great.

Then we've got the slowest wing pairing in the comp. Ken at least adds an aerial threat and makes metres. Nof is largely unnoticeable and the most expendable member of the backline.

Tupou in his current ability is exclusively a winger and should play the full season on the wing in NRL/NSW Cup, no more shifting on a weekly basis.

Toa is again a better winger than centre, much like Naden, his awful defence is less exposed on the wing as it is in the centres.

No comment on Reilly, we'll have to wait and see what he looks like after a full offseason.

Laurie is an average fullback. He gets caught out of position too much and doesn't support ball carriers anywhere near enough. Both of these can be attributed to fitness/work ethic. Perhaps his skills are better suited to 5/8, we shall see.

So to some up our outside backs no one is a lock in any position. No real centres lots of fill ins who are better suited out wide, but we don't need 6 wingers on the field. Hopefully Furner can teach these boys how to stay in position and tackle. None of this jogging backwards defending nonsense. And hopefully our boys are fit enough to handle the NRL this year, last year we weren't and our shocking use of the bench just made this even more obvious.

Getting good forwards does not guarantee a great season but it certainly puts you in the fight each week something both Balmain and the Magpies were well aware of.For some reason that has not been the club goal every season but it certainly should be.

It became a priority when Ivan was coach. And as a result Brooks got Dally M halfback and Matterson was on his back.

He can put the ball down, his problem is his sideways running metres vs his forward running metres....

My god why not just put two cars oard cut outs in the centres instead. They will let the same amount of tries in.

I thought Peachey was a good signing last year so my opinion is dirt, but I'm glad to get rid of Peachey in this swap and think that while staines has shown nothing but bog average, I think he adds pace to our backline and bog average for our backline is pretty damn good. I don't know which wingers/fullbacks are available but staines would surely be one of the best available options.

Another good move, well done tigers.
I though exactly the same. Total dud. Turned out to be one of-if not our absolute worst-signing in recent memory

Seriously, I have only watched a little of Stains, and he looks fast and deceptive. His defence , or lack of seems to be in question to some on here. Is this just the whinging willies in this forum, who constently look to bag a player ? Or is it the opinion of people who have seen him play more then 1 or 2 games ? We are probably the slowest nrl side ever, I yearn to see a player that can run 50 mtrs to score a try.

If only that were true...

Russell Packer, Josh Reynolds, Oliver Gildart. Even Mbye was worse. He was playable on the field but that contract was shocking. He's probably the worst signing of the Madge era, though.
