the guy has had 7 clubs in 11 years over 2 competitions, he doesn't seem to stick around

Please - if Sheens saw him as our future 13 he would have blocked him from going, would be negotiating a contract extension and wouldn't have gone after Bateman. He is a 7 and always has been but he was never going to be our 7 while Brooks and Sheens are at the club. Newcastle going after Hastings couldn't have gone any better for Sheens - probably instigated it himself.

Geezus he left because Sheens doesn't want him and Newcastle do. He has done nothing to deserve being bagged out for that. If anything by going it ensures the club gets Klemmer now with a full preseason and Sheens can start his campaign to focus on Brooks career revival

Jacko has the right to want to play 7.

Sheens also has the right to not play him 7....and not offer him a long term deal.

Neither are to blame and Jacko had every right to accept 7 'and' long term after we did not offer him it.

Long term we will see who was right.

Personally, I'd have much rather kept Hastings...and sent Brooks to Knights.

Let's hope Sheens has backed the right horse.

I thought Hastings was an astute recruitment. He’s a half back so it was a decision about the style of half Benji wants. Have to look at recruitment and retention as a whole. I also suspect Brooks will be extended and his halves partner is not on the roster. I can’t see Benji wanting Douihei in the halves either. I like him as a centre that’s he’s position since the injuries.

So far deals done and or to be finalised:

Klemmer> Musgrove
Papalli > Luciano
Bateman> Garner
Api > Liddle

Certainly makes more sense for Newcastle over Brooks.
If they are serious about wanting to play KP at 5/8 they have to make room for him. KP likes the left corridor and as that is Brooks home it would of made things rather difficult.

Also feel Doueihi will be the direct replacement for Hastings at lock. Might start games at 5/8 but like in the Lebanon WC games will shift to lock part way through the game.
Could this mean Daine to become a super sub / ease him into a half role?

The real shame about Jacko going is it was the first time in years we had a quality leader playing in the 7 jumper,now thanks to the Knights giving him a chance to play in his prefered position and us getting Klemmer we are still stuck with the bloke who has had more excuses per season than any other player gets afforded...hope Shifty has plenty of excuses at the ready if Brooks cant improve....sad really....

Hastings couldn’t even play 7 in England, played severss as l positions! What does that tell you?? Even in a mickey mouse competition he still couldn’t crack the 7 regularly.
Only thing Hastings was consistent at was rubbing people up the wrong way, we know about Australian issues and then we find out about Bateman! Sounds like a prickly fellow…

I never said he was captain material...he showed leadership in the 1 season with us,something Brooks hasnt shown in 10 years..who cares how many clubs he has played for,he got man of steel award in ESL and helped teams play in finals,something else Brooks hasnt done.Football is a short career make the best of it while you can...on another note.LOYALTY gets you no where in a cutthroat competition,Luke has been blessed over many years..Teddy got out,Moses got out and showing no loyalty got them better careers...

But, you dont trade out good, organisational halves.

And if we are in the business of swapping out halves, wtf happened to the Brooks idea? Why is he being kept? That was the original plan.

Its not that hard to find a running half or whatever Adam Leb is (He feels to me like a 2nd rower in the halves) but the Chad Townsend/Cleary organisers are few and far between and Hastings was on that level and he won us matches this year.

I sort of agree with LCA.
The priority for our rebuild had to start with forwards and if it's a straight Klem/Jacko trade and we keep brooks and AD then I'm happy with it but what exactly is the $ turnaround? It's a bit vague at this stage isn't it?
