Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Lol- people called him the next Joey in his first game.
Not since.
Nearly 10 years later and he still hasn’t got a football brain and has the dubious honour of being the longest standing player who hasn’t played semis … and he’s the halfback 🤣
Yeah that first season must of gone downhill badly for him to win rookie of the year. And the Dally M award a few years later. No potential there. Funny how his career went down the shitter after the club released the future Australian captain along with a bunch of other good players. Maybe it’s a 17 man game.

Yeah it's not Brooks fault ...he thought they meant Joey Leilua ...not Joey Johns .....now he knows ...you watch the change

Never pictured Klemmer as a Sheens type of player. The pack is looking better than it has in years on paper.
As mentioned elsewhere, Coach Sheens actually selected Klemmer for his first Aussie cap, way back in 2014:

Yep.. all those wonderful awards and his fantastic play got us to how many semi finals and him into how many rep teams?
He’s simply not a halfback.
He showed that last year….his best games at 5/8 with Hastings controlling the team.
Going by The Pom’s info if he does stay for another 2 years on top of next year he’ll be on bugger all money.
Rookie halfbacks get more.

We had two semi final qualifiers at Leichhardt oval which we absolutely kooked. A lot better than 5 lengths last like we were this year. And that was with young sides who were still lesser on paper than the top teams.

I’ve said many times before that Brooks has faults. He seems to lack confidence and not sure he has the personality to direct a team around. Jahrome hughes at Storm would be someone I’d compare him to based on what he does well. Run, makes breaks , good broken field runner.

Look how Jahrome goes in a really good footy team where others share the burden. My hope is LB might do similar given better teammates.

In my experience forwards own the result in rugby league, halfbacks just capitalise on the momentum created by the pack.

Disagree if you like, couldn’t care less.

To all those brooks supporters who keep up saying that brooks never had good forwards to help him to play well, then take the time lo look up the west tigers teams from 2014 - 2015 - 2016 - 2017 then see if you can blame the lack of forwards on brooks bad play, good forwards or bad, brooks plays the same way,
Bloody terrible, while the possibility of signing him was a possibility who actually tried to take him from us, only the knights but at his price no thanks,
Have you looked at those squads?
2014 was half decent, and Brooks played well enough to win Rookie of the Year. The season fell apart with injuries and then Potter's sacking.
2015 sure Galloway, Woods and Taupau were all good and played over 20 games. But it takes more than just 3 good forwards to consistently be competitive. The rest of the pack included the likes of Lovett, Seumanufangai and Sue playing 20+ games and Santi and Buchanan 10+. Sironen managed 19 games this season mostly in the 2nd row in what was his best, yet still not overly impressive, season at the club.
2016 The pack only got worse. Lose Galloway and Taupau and sign Grant. Also recruited Aloiai who had a decent but not outstanding rookie season in the 2nd row. Did sign Taylor mid-season who could at least make some tackles.
2017 Largely the same pack as 2017 with no forward recruits and none of the rookie forwards impressing.
Obviously, you have a different opinion. But, i have to ask, what do you rate about any of these forward packs?

No super happy about Hastings going, but if we can have all the big moves sorted before Christmas it will bode well for a strong preseason. Pack looks very strong next year, perfect platform for the youngsters to succeed. Bit of luck with injuries and there's reason for a bit of hope in 23
Yeah agree. If the news is true , I think Klemmer - Hastings swap is a sideways move. While we gain upfront with Klemmer , we lose with Hastings going. We we needed to keep Hastings for organizational skills. I am a Brooks fan however he is a running 5/8 not an organizing half. He simply doesent have that skill. I thought the Hastings half lock position was a winner for the Tigs. I hope Sheens has a plan to bring an organizing half on board for 2023 or we are going to face the same problems with lack of game management.

@THE_POM any news on who we are looking at in the halves and realistic chances of getting them?

My mate knows Mitchell Moses and says he loves the tigers but would never come back with Pascoe as CEO because of how he felt he was treated with Woods and Teddy being prioritised over him.

For me trading Hastings is the biggest mistake we have made since we stuffed up the negotiations for Teddy and Mitch.

We finally had an organising half who directed the team around the park with a strong voice, had a winners mentality, and nice skill and we kept Brooks who in my opinion doesn't matter if we have a better forward pack has no voice, no winners mentality, and is a few losing games away next year from having the whole media and NRL community piling in on him and the club by saying how badly we got it wrong with Hastings.
