Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sheens building an impressive pack. Packs lay the platform to win games.
I liked the look of Volderman who was at Easts now at Warriors. He seemed a lively half back with all the skills. Played against WT in a pre season trial and was impressive.
Good luck to AD and Brooks as WT halves in 2023.
Will Staines come in for Ken on the wing?

Then get rid of recruitment and the 4 halves in question .....I'm even happier with that ......but the infighting on here is wasted ......if you want to win a premiership do you line up with any of the 4 mentioned ...not a chance in hell ......we need to stop aiming for the scraps of the top sides tables and start looking at this comp as something we need to win

Stumbling into 8th in 5 years time and then getting belted week 1 doesn't appease me ......I want to be a constant contender ...and these pretenders aren't going to make us year in year out contenders

I agree with you but the only way this will happen is if we develop those players and I don't think we have them coming through. The good thing is that atm if we lose players it's not a big issue.

He said that’s what he’s heard and doesn’t want to say his source… it’s a signings, suggestions and RUMOURS thread, so just take it as a rumour?

Don’t understand this need for people to hound everyone who posts a bit of inside info they’ve heard to publicly reveal their sources.

Ruins the forum at times.
No. You are so off base its laughable.
What ruins a forum like this is people claiming to have some inside info that is merely opinion.
I never asked for sources.
I never tried to out the poster to draw possible punishment.
He stated its FACT not RUMOUR.
Put up or shut up is always the best policy.

All off contract in 2024

Matt Burton
Dylan Browne
Sam Walker
Kurt Falls

I could live with even 2 of those 4 ....I could add Mitch Moses but I can't see that happening from either side of the fence ....I am a realist
Thats a hell of a shopping list. Were going to need a good 2023, which is going to be tough without Hastings, Madden and possibly Doueihi.

Thats my point .....we don't have any quality halves coming through that I've seen or heard of ...our biggest hope is building a solid base in the forwards and hope thats attracts at least one quality half ....and quality fullback ..and a quality centre

I could be wrong ...but I wonder if we could tempt Wong from the Roosters ...he looks like he could be a career backrower ..has the goods ...only going to get bigger .....makes a million tackles

Geez there's a fair bit of mail that contradicts each other this morning, battle of the ITK's.
Think it shows one thing though the powers that be are playing their cards close to their chest. We all know things can change quickly and are fluid but i hope the mail about Woods coming back is well wide of the mark. I dont want that bloke here with his inevitable redemption story waste of a roster spot if you ask me.
Think we all enjoy hearing what others hear whether or not it comes off its good to get some inside mail, some do it better than others then one is all about the look at me factor.

Yep, most of these self-proclaimed 'insiders' should bugger off to the 'rumours and fantasy' thread.

I've never claimed he is a champion. I think that we do not know how good he could be because he has never had a decent pack. But I think he has enough talent to perform well in a good team.
We don't know if Thurston, Cronk, Cleary would perform behind poor forward packs. They've rarely had to. I think they would still perform better than Brooks has, but not by much
Will the new look pack be enough? Well, first they need to perform to their potential. Is Bateman really coming and if so is he still an elite backrower or is his body breaking down and he a shadow of his former self? Will Papallii have the motivation to perform in a side he reportedly didn't want to be in? Can Utoikamanu perform to the expectation we had of him post 2021 or will he continue the struggles he had in 2022. Most importantly will our starting pack stay on the field or will injuries/suspensions mean we are relying heavily on a bunch of kids?

If the forwards do in fact perform to their abilities then yes they are good enough that Brooks should thrive. If the forwards perform to their abilities and Brooks does not perform I will be happy to attribute blame to him. But, I won't blame the results on a halfback that is playing behind a poor pack as Brooks has his whole career.

And back to my original question what did you rate about the pack in that 4 year period? I argue they weren't that good because they weren't. I would love to see an argument that they were.
I think I read yesterday (can try to find confirmation later if you like) 2015 we ranked 15th for running metres. Then the pack imo got worse in 2016 and 2017.
For christ sake, if a half back is a good halfback, he shows he is a good halfback, even in a piss poor team.

Well I don't think you'd get all 4 ...but you get 2 and then a promising junior from within ...or external ...even keep Douehi as a centre and a back up half if we are desperate ....

More halves come available in 2025 ....you get even 1 again ......Fogarty ...Wighton ......Hynes ......Dearden ....Townsend.......Luai.......Keary ......and then you are talking .....that's how we need to be thinking

Moses is a better player than Brooks, always has been, people just hate him for his personality, but his footy smarts are streets ahead of Brooks
well we may well get both who knows.
see how Brooks goes behind the 2023 pack before death riding him ok

Tigers are POTENTIALLY putting one of the more dominant forward packs on the field in 2023 at this stage. Klemmer & Utoikamanu will almost certainly increase our effectiveness in the middle of the field. Really looking forward to watching Papali'i running the lines that Garner & Tuilagi ran off Luke Brooks out wide.

I was never really happy with Hastings @ #13. I felt like it really unbalanced our forwards, particularly as we were often run over by the opposition. Having Joffa/Matamua or Nathan Brown at #13 toughens us up. I still believe the NRL is a game of momentum, won through the middle. And we lost momentum in the middle almost ritually.

I've said a number of times that Brooks is the most 'complete' of the Tigers halves last season. The team DESPERATELY requires a solid kicking game. Hastings had an at best average kicking game. Doueihi is still developing his game and really only has that bomb. Brooks is more rounded. That said, it's at best an 'above average' skill set for him. He needs a compliment at #6. Laurie sounds like he'll get a shot. But he seems more like a running option. Api offers direction. Staines isn't a kicker. That general field kicking game is a problem. If Brooks can refine that- he IS the best option at 7 in the club.

I have no problem with Woods coming back. Not much doubt that the club has always meant a lot to him. And you can critisise his defence rightly, he's not being brought in for that. He gains metres, he offloads at will & he contributes to momentum.

The Tigers will win games if they can wrestle the flow of the game away from the opposition. Having a dominant forward pack is the absolute key.

Won’t be here at his current asking price, club won’t even entertain it.
AD is dreaming for his rumoured asking price. I don't think any club will go for that, he's hardly proven himself. Easy to look decent around a bunch of numpties.

Praying for some good news RE Moses, but I would be very very very surprised. The only thing that could save the Brooks decision.
