Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

How can it be improved?
I started writing a spiel and it was all dribble.

We either recruit better players or we just have the 4 of them fight it out it for the 3 positions. Maybe you can try Doueihi at lock but I don't like the idea. He isn't a ball player like Hastings was. He is a runner with poor defense.

Maybe one of them will prove they are high caliber NRL players over the course of the season but I don't have much confidence in our spine for next season.

Recruiting Moses or Welsby would mean we have 4 players into two positions and at least that way there is more competition for those key roles but I'm not sure there is a huge difference between them.

And you will never know the difference. So my point is - why bother to worry? You will never know for sure if it's a club leak or just media BS. It's probably media BS even if it involves a club leak.
True - but when all/most media outlets report something similar then you have to assume they haven’t all had the same cognition without it coming from somewhere.

I only worry (more so annoys) bc I think it hurts our brand whilst we’re in the rebuilding phase.

But agree with your points.

Media loves WT
Re MM, we keep quiet for a change - it doesn't matter.
They report it because it suits their agenda (clicks) :
1. If we sign MM we have paid huge overs and they spend months on that
2. We don't sign MM and we have missed out AGAIN because no-one wants to go to the club in crisis - and they spend months on that

Its a win- win for the gutter crawlers.
We should never pander to media scum. We owe these creeps zip!

This is better but we need Moses and it is probably unlikely. I wonder if Doueihi is better than Laurie and Staines at fullback though.
Doueihi has been placed at fullback, 5/8 or lock in three different posts! It probably sums up where he is in the squad - a utlity without having secured a position (as was the case at Souths).

Well Doueihi was awful at fullback, and it's a position that requires speed , i think the Tigers have already passed on that idea. Laurie, tried hard and was better, but not great. Stains has the size, and speed , and some experience and looks promising. It's a position that is critical, and if the above fail, it has to be the main aim of recruitment ,after sorting out the halves.

1. Laurie/Staines
6. Brooks
7. Moses/Williams
9. Api

that would be my preferred spine for 23/24 if possible id upgrade full back
Doueihi is not a 13 he's barely a 6 centre would be my place for him assuming he gets his defence in order. No way he plays in the middle anytime soon.

I iook at it another way
All four can play in other positions. Laurie...fullback, 5/8 and wing. Brooks...1/2, 5/8 and at a pinch ..center. AD.....5/8, center fullback and maybe 1/2. Staines....fullback wing and possibly center. Very versatile and all first grade standard

Don't know if it's from a recent article. Also don't have the full story, screenshot here was shared by his management

Never saw Robbie play at the same age but Da Silva is a gun.

Will definitely be the Koroisau replacement when he retires.

He’s only 17, but is already training with NRL this pre-season.

First grade standard at the Tigers, not the standard of top 8 side in the comp. That's why we got the spoon. We all pray with some additions to the pack , that this will change. They all don't have 2024 contracts as yet, so the club does not think they are all first grade standard , neither do I .
Maybe 2 get extended, but i doubt all four will be here in 2024

I don't know how Staines will go at FB but his speed and elusiveness are an unmatched weapon.

Wonder what tactics the Fonz and Benji will devise but if his defense holds up his support play through the middle may be close to unstoppable against tired forwards.

Certainly a risk worth taking.

We need to be careful with his development / evolution into the role.
Liddle and earlier Cherrington were once very talented junior hookers just like DaSilva.

He wasn't awful at Fullback playing for Souths during the finals before he joined us.

People focus alot on the speed aspect but they also need to be a 5/8th & general.
The quality fullbacks have a super high work rate with the ball, ball skills with ability to break tackles creating doubt in defensive lines.

Manu & Latrell aren't players known as speedy but their other attributes tackle breaker & ball players are what drive them as being successful.

This kid is as they say these days "OG" !!. If he keeps going on the trajectory path that he is currently on, I'd say the back end of 2024 season we might see him getting a few runs in the top grade. Very talent kid, great training ethics, a speedy, creative runner with ball in hand, good distribution out of half, gusty and effective defender. Definitely a star in the making, one to hold onto, if we can hold off all the clubs from pouching him.
