Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Has Sheens stated AD won't be at 6. I thought AD would get first shot at 6 and Laurie at 1.
Nothing official from Sheens.
Just me reading between the lines of a few comments made.

Staines and Nofo both right wingers and Nofo playing his best football the last 2 years......might be wrong but heard that he's not going anywhere.

Because they’d probably be hoping that the best of the juniors are good enough to bypass Flegg as much as they can and go straight to NSW Cup and then NRL.

E.g. Matamua only played around 6 or 7 games of Flegg before going straight to NSW Cup and then NRL.
Interesting thought.

You mean Nof not playing his best footy for years? He's been on career worst form. Currently not first grade standard

The way Sheens is thinking he's looking to play Laurie at 5/8 trusting that Brooks and Laurie's defensive shortcomings will be shored up by Paps and Bateman covering them.

Risky but looks like the club is going back to try and outscore opponent.

Conventional tactics didn't work for us for whatever reason.
I expect to see this setup in the trials along with AD at 5/8 and Laurie at the back. For mine, putting the Moses saga aside for a moment, our strongest backline (with Sheen's likely playing style in mind), is:

FB: Staines
Wing: Nofa & Ken
Centre: AD & TT
5/8: Laurie
Half: Brooks

There is some depth in the centre/wing department and possibly Smith in the halves. I expect the reluctance to sign longer term deals/extensions for Staines, AD, Laurie and Brooks is a pretty clear indication that they either prove themselves or ship out. I'm happy with that approach given where we are coming from.

With two spots to fill, the Moses and Bateman fishing expedition along with several Train and Trial deals, doesn't leave much room for us to move in the signings area. If a couple of the Train and Trial contracts pan out we may have to jig the roster by releasing a some bed fillers after Christmas.

I love the silence from the club - confirms that the journos are just making shit up and gives us a better negotiating position. Bring on 2023!

I think Naden will be in the centres start of year and Feledy by end of season. Tupou will likely have. A spot and jimmy also a chance .

Too right - there are a few options at centre and great to see some competition for positions. Would love to see a gun centre either develop this year or on the books for 24.

Still a bit confused why with the 2 junior teams provided a pathway into Flegg our Flegg team In the recent past is mostly made up of players that were directly recruited to start at that grade.
I don’t understand it either for a club which has struggled a little financially? They’ve obviously discussed the cost/benefit analysis in arriving at that decision, but on the surface you would have to question the viability?

To go with the above text , of class fullbacks , and even if we could get one to come we would be paying well over $1.4 million , so let’s hope a much improved pack takes us to the finals
Let's hope the team we have gets us some gutsy wins in 2023.

We need the credibility of a club that's on the up, this is how we stop paying ridiculous overs for players.

Outscoring opponents sounds like conventional tactics to me, and I am looking forward to seeing it again.

Sure, every team needs to work hard in defence, both individually and as a unit.

Still, tactics such as turning poor Twal back inside repetitively in preparing for an unimaginative last play like a kick across field, is demoralising for supporters and players alike.

I hope the club is still interested in Welsby - I think he is a much better FB than 5/8 where he played in WC. Still only 21 i believe he will be an out and out star over the next couple of years.
He played well but cast your mind back to Tomkins.
He was electric a few years ago but when he came to the Warriors he was average.
Sometimes playing for country, at home, can bring out the best in you.
Not saying he’s no good but Caveat Emptor- buyer beware.

The upgraded pack is a great start towards redemption, however without a leader and some guys who can regularly convert opportunities into wins, we may still struggle to make the 8, considering of course that there is now more competition for those spots.
Ur 100% correct , TUCKER , but u can’t fix all the problems we have in one season , but what u can do is fix the soft belly , it’s easier for average backs to preform with a pack that goes forward and doesn’t leak huge scores . NOW if u buy just backs then u would not solve the problem because u would always be on the back foot , so be patient one problem at a time .

Us poor Tiger fans keep telling one another to be patient... I think we've mastered patience by now.
Saying that, we need a few more years still of being patient 🥱 and that will set us up for a decade of happiness rather than a decade of misery. The plan and pathways is something to keep us excited until then.
I can't wait to see our forward pack working together though... will be a thing of pure beauty next year!

Agree , but if people don't believe Klem and Api are leaders, who is? We have bought them for this reason. We still have to fix the obvious problems of the halves, and trying to get Moses, should show the effort the club made. Then fullback, with Stains, hope he succeeds, then the backline with some kids hopefully coming good. With a far better coaching staff ,the future looks good.

This has been very positive on all fronts, in an extremely tough market, i doubt we could have done better.

I think between Fullback and 5/8 we should keep open for a GUN signing.

Daine Laurie is a good addition and I can see him becoming 5/8 long term. Particularly under Marshall, if they gell they will GELL. Else move him to utility.

By keeping fullback or 5/8 a little open, we can pick up the next big name and put them where they can count.
I believe Daine has shown a bit at fullback and hopefully our side gets us into better spots for him to ascend in 2023. I believe Staines is there to keep Noffa honest and wouldn’t be at all surprised if Nofs in reggies this year. Get Bateman done so we can enjoy our turkey you turkeys.
