Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Now that Dylan Brown has committed to stay with the Eels, It's a sure thing that Moses will stay and form a long standing partnership with Brown...Looks like the Eels have their men!.... for what its worth....Moses has NOT informed the WT of his decision yet
Anti climactic

Apologies. I thought it was another 'we must be one club right the way through' argument.
Yes it partially is. But i would guess most clubs overhaul their roster going into flegg. It would be around this age that all the country kids, Queensland kids without a club and NZ/Pacific Island Kids would all be leaving home to enter professional system.
Ahh that makes sense. Hopefully in future we have a strong base of junior players and can add to it with quality recruits such as Faagatu like this year.

has he actually informed any one yet, just for argument sake neither has Dylan

IF Moses bid fails, i expect Smith to be upgraded, He is an organisor, and i can't see that in the current 3 guys. Also a backup 1 , 6, 7,and 9 . Short term only , till we settle on the halves, or buy someone next year for 2024.
I've never heard Will Smith be called an organiser, I doubt he even thinks he is one himself. irrespective of whether Moses signs, we need a backup half. it's ridiculous to think we let Madden and Hastings go without having someone in mind as a depth option.

Freebairn in a Magpies shirt, not Tigers in the video, meaning he must be signed to a NSW Cup contract.

Good depth to have at that level, glad he’s staying with the club.
I actually thought Freebairn looked right at home in first grade. Not a game breaker, nothing flashy, but held his own. You're right, it's a great depth level signing to have in the lower grades.

Still making perfect sense after all these years, good on ya Telltails 👍

I’m fairly certain Moses won’t come here, so my question is who else is the club pursuing for halfback? They better have a backup plan because putting all the eggs in the Brooks basket again is tantamount to disaster.
Is there currently a reasonable replacement halfback/five eight available? I don't think so.

Interesting observation jr. We seem to know who we want and who we don’t want but our procedural order is opposite to the way Bulldogs go about it.
We sack Madge, then go after Ciraldo, we sack halves then go after Munster, Moses.
The Bulldogs sign the replacement first, catch and release?

to be fair, the dogs do things similar. they turfed T-Baz and then went to work on Ciraldo. they've also released a stack of players recently and are now looking to fill their roster with talent.

despite the optimism I have for the future, the issue lies in the short term. we can't go into the season with Laurie as the backup half. he's never played there in first grade.

Moses was rightfully identified as the priority 1 halfback option, but I sincerely hope they have a list of other targets should he fall through. at the moment it seems like the club feels it has got it's man and as a result, everything else is on hold. we've been confident like this before (JAC, TPJ, Latrell) and it's fallen through. I hope they have some other balls up in the air, otherwise we are going to be well behind on where we need to be.

HUH?
Smith is not an organiser, he's not even a half. He's a utility squaddie, that's the role he's played at his last few clubs. Not a starting 17 type, but when injuries hit he can plug a hole here or there in the interim.

Don't know if Moses is coming or not, and while I have been kind of excited to see if he will sign here, I don't actually think he is the right fit. The way the roster is at the moment I think a top tier fullback would fit so much better. Throw Laurie into the halves and make it a 3 way race for 2 spots. I realise there's not really a fullback like that on the market but things change quickly in the nrl and alot hinges on the new eba/salary cap. The clubs in a good spot for once, I'm happy for them to sit back and wait for the minute.
I think Staines may fill the fullback jersey very well. From what little I've seen or read about him he appears to be more a fullback than winger. Look at how Mini went when he went from wing to the back.

Someone posted about getting Slater to coach our fullbacks, well Mini is another, he spent a lot of time with Teddy, and he spoke glowingly of his help. Also with Stains, he has spent a lot of time watching Edwards turn into a top class fullback, he would have learned heaps.
Time will tell, (the tigers catch phrase)
