Mitchell Moses #175

Great player, just not a controlling half. More a running half like brooks.
Yet why is Hugues working for Melbourne and Brooks isn't working for us? Just the forward pack...

I could see 2x running halves working, I could see Hugues giving good ball to Brooks and them both running fast. Hugues has far better team organisation, even if it is lacking. Plus Api + Hugues would work well.

I would almost wonder if the 1.3m would be better spent on Hugues then Moses?
Could use the Melbourne professionalism, although it tends to not work too well exported.

Storm have just signed two young gun halfbacks until the end of 2025: Tyran Wishart and Jonah Pezet. Surely the increased chance of 1st grade and a doubling of contract size would have one of these asking for a release? They are both stuck behind Hughes and fighting each other to be his injury fill in.

plan B should be George Williams. other than that, market is scarce. Braydon Trindall is probably your next best option, he's a Sheens-esque halfback. Souths have Dean Hawkins and Blake Taaffe on their books, I'd be looking at one of them too.

I remember reading that Coach Sheens already has his mind set with a spine down the track.

When are they off contract? I rate Taaffe. Don't know much about Hawkins though

3 out of 4 of the spine he speaks of are about to play their first season of Matts. Ali Karnib, Onitoni Large and Alex Isdale. Tallyn Da Silva is 17, about to play his first year of SG Ball. they're miles off unfortunately. this is why Moses would've been ideal, as by the time his deal would wrap up, Karnib, Large and Isdale are all 21.

Surely the Dolphins would snap him up: need a marquee, have plenty of cash, hometown/not far to move, Bennett. Would be the simplest, if him and the Broncs decide a parting of the ways is necessary.

I bet it's a little less than this but I would rather get a different player to either of those players for those dollars.

The ideas yesterday to just wait and see what happens in the market make sense to me.

I'd like to get him because it solves our halfback problem but he has been inconsistent and I didn't like his actions last time he was here. The only thing is I think he may become more consistent at the backend of his career. He is quick and creative plus he has a good long kicking game. He is pretty close to Cleary.

I just don't know if those dollars on a long term deal would be good for our club.

Supposedly Moses was for 2024 at 1.3m
Brooks final year this year 900k
I imagine the money will just go to Brooks if we can’t get anyone. Not sure why people were speculating Moses 7 and Brooks 6. Can afford both unless Brooks takes a huge pay cut.

If Moses doesn’t sign hold onto the money until we see where we need to improve. Tigers have money they need to be smart with it. So if Moses doesn’t come just wait and see where we need improving and see who’s available.
Remember last season we didn't spend all our cap and it could be used for this season.
I don't see why would blow it on someone who really won't make a difference (if moses is unavailable) as you said wait and see.
After halfway through this season it should become apparent what type of player/position we need so we can throw some cash at him for 2024.

Any mature aged half currently playing in NSW / QLD league that could step up and excel in the right environment
Forgarty Hynes or Walker types
Don't know much about QCup but NSW has Dean Hawkins about the only one that i think still fits that description. Clune was the best experienced halfback in reggies for a few years. Never taken his shot at first grade but was in some ordinary teams.
I wonder if Conner Tracey might be worth a shout? Was looking to be a very good halfback until injuries stalled his career. If doesnt work out could be used in the centres as he has at Sharks the past couple years.
But really, i think Brooks is a better player than any of them. Just depends on what he thinks his next contract should be valued at in comparison to the other options.
