Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ok here, comes another 'this person said that' story....I was at a function called the Headmaster's Gathering yesterday evening (I'm a teacher) and was speaking to a staunch Parra supporter (wife of a teacher), who alleges to have contacts with the club. He said the feeling in and around the Eels is that Moses has signed with the Tigers. If this is true, it's exciting but I still maintain 1.4 mil a year for a player who will be 29, when he comes, is 24 is bad business.
I think 1.1million and above is the new normal for halves now and as a club we need to pay slightly over that.

Interesting, I’ve noticed the Para media on there platforms and websites feature a lot more of Brown, Gutherson and Matterson.

I keep going back to the thought of - if he was staying, they would have announced by now…everyday

Why hasn't it been announced from us though ? Until it's official I reckon anything can change.

As @stevied stated I'm not even sure if it's good business based on the massive contract but we are desperate for a marquee player. He better deliver assuming he comes.

If he does sign then straight away hel help with organisation, long kicking game and goalkicking. That's 3 things off the bat that we have sucked at for awhile.

You’d think if he had already signed, there would of been a leak by now. As better in that department as the club has got, big name player like the slimy turd is. Somebody would of leaked it by now!
I reckon he’s still trying to get the slugs to give him another year, I don’t reckon the money is as much the issue, as the years are.

With the new cap having a 25% increase, $1.4m is the equivalent of $1.1m under the old cap. About 11-12% of the cap being allocated to one player is a lot, but given he plays arguably the most important position and is one of the best players in the league at that position, financially it makes sense.

I mean Brooks is making a not too different amount and he's been one of the worst players in the league for years now, so it's definitely a huge improvement in resource allocation to say the least.

To use an old saying "Bugger"

I agree. Brooks was clearly our best long kicker and clearly our best general kicker last year. Hastings was definitely better organizing in the middle of the field but he had flaws as well.

He fixes a bunch of issues quickly and we don't have any players coming through within the next couple of years who can fill that role.

It could be. Who knows. I take everything with a grain of salt until we get an official announcement.

I don't agree with this in a lot of ways. Brooks has a backended contract with is still significantly less this year than what we are signing Moses on. He also hasn't been one of the worst players in the league. He has consistently been one of our best players.

I also think Brooks is in the bottom half of NRL halves. We've just been so poor for so long. It's not all Brooks fault but as the halfback he becomes the focus from some people.

Slight exaggeration

I guess if he has signed or is about to sign it maybe something to do with trying to negotiate a release for 2023.

Although I always go back to the Luke Lewis thing, where the corks were popped only to have the Sharks get him at the last minute. Never over to the fat lady sings

If we can save $100k or so elsewhere, then we can justify it. Seems we may have got a good deal on klem.
