Trial or not , year after year the supporters are fed a new feel good naritive to keep us happy and involved .
This year's mantra is PATHWAYS , the golden secret on the road to glory.
Having watched last night's game and
SG Ball , apart from a couple of forwards the cupboard is looking completely bare as far as this theory that our produced pathway talent will be our saviour.
We having a massive combined Balmain/Wests catchment area should be unearthing talent like Farrah,Lawrence, Tedesco, Woods,Brookes ,Moses etc BUT we have failed miserably to find anyone even close over the last 10 years.
This trial showed me the same cloned athletic players we find every year with terrible hands and zero grasp of footballing knowledge and they also lack even the base talent to ever be anything great.
Same same , we excuse mediocrity and not strive and seek the best.☹
We have a type don’t we?
I much prefer footballers irrespective of their body makeup.

ones for me that will be around the top grade if required
Kepoa , James , Feledy , Reilly , Simkins , Stains
Bula , needs to harden up as he looks light but great prospect
Kepaoa looks like having a big season, he’s only 23. James impressed. He will fool a few people because he looks clumsy in the way he moves, but did the job and didn’t overplay. I would like to see him get a couple of games this year.

TRW
@KingRobbie has already done something similar, but here's my collective thoughts.

Out of the first grade candidates, there's a few that can hold their heads high. Stefano was immense, as was Pole once he moved to the middle. I thought Kepaoa was probably next best and should certainly start over Talau, who made Williame look like Joseph Manu.

Simpkin should lock down the 14 jersey. When we were on the front foot he looked a far improved footballer than last year. Matamua's second stint was excellent. Needs time in Cup but is definitely the long term 13.

Staines for mine lacks a passing game and his short kicking was poor. nice to see him have a crack but unfortunately he's a fullback from 15 years ago. Bula on the other hand looks a prospect.

can't fault Scolari's efforts but the incessant jamming in when his inside man has the centre covered is something he needs to fix quickly. Jordan Hill looks the likelier prospect out of the two. Peni for mine isn't a first grader. would've loved to have seen Feledy with ball in hand but defensively he was good and he's got a bit of shithousery in his game which I love.

Reilly solid, probably a better centre. Wakeham rocks and diamonds and looks far too erratic to be a backup half. we will miss Madden. Camroux I thought looked decent but need to see more.

Fa'agutu is a little further off than I anticipated. promising signs but I'm not sure he makes firsts this year. James was solid, good player to have on a part time contract but didn't see too much more than that. Fainu on the other hand was atrocious defensively and shouldn't be anywhere near firsts. Seyfarth tries hard but it just does not come off. Hopeful Tumeth has a growth spurt in him, because he has the attitude. not ready for firsts at this stage physically tho. Was pleasantly surprised by Tony Sukkar, he's one to keep an eye on.

Rua's got some work to do. was classy in Cup last year but the injury has put him back months in terms of form and development. Vaihu was barely sighted.

Patience is required for the entire club, from first grade down. the passes won't stick for a little while and players are still learning their roles. we'll revisit at end of season to see how the second team fares in the coming months. positive signs for the majority of the first grade candidates.

Man what's happened to Staine speed?

Reilly, shows promise, along with Bula, and Stains showed courage under the high ball, and in defence, also looked dangerous in a flat side. Kepoa looked good, TT bad as ever,'.
Feledy looked good.. The Warriors were pumped at their home ground, and a couple of their experienced players gave them the direction, we lacked that in the side..
Just a trial, but highlights our defence tactics in the backline, are poor.

And the people that get overly excited at winning a trial . . . especially the first trial that's full of players nobody outside this forum has heard of . . . shows even more stupidity.
Warriors were visibly excited because they had something to be excited about.
Their backline made us look like we hadn’t done any work over the off season.
I think the chooks could win the $100k though?

It's a good sign when we can recruit Feledy at SG Ball level and he looked at home in an NRL trial game.

I’d rather win a trial implementing the off season’s work including attacking and defensive structures, keeping our shape and completing to a high standard as opposed to getting pantsed by the reserve grade side of an expected bottom 6 squad.

You don’t get the spoon and first hit out l, chuck out the “best crop of juniors in years” to get lapped by 50. Yea it was a trial but shows where the club is at. Anyone saying “
It’s just a trial” is missing the big, shit filled picture.
