Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With Moses delaying his announcement... I am sure Sheens and Benji are not just sitting twiddling their thumbs waiting for an answer. They would be proactive approaching player managers and organising plan "B" through to plan "Z".
If he says "yes", then great! If he says "no", then I still have no doubt that come 24/25, we will still be excited by the massive improvements made of our roster... In "Shenji" we trust 🙂

Isaac Moses waiting until we extend Brooks before pulling the rug from under us and getting Mitch to re-sign with Parra.

Told us we needed to strengthen our forward pack to have any chance of signing Mitch (Klemmer and Bateman, 2 x Moses’ clients) and extend Brooks (another Moses client) because that was the big draw card for Mitch to come here.

Moses 2 Wests Tigers 0.
I wouldn’t read into that crap. It’s obvious our forwards have been crap, even to most ppl here. And yes the hierarchy has taken action to remedy. Not because MM said so. We don’t need to be gullible and we should use our common sense. In bolstering the pack as required we should see better results in 2023 and with further improvement in 2024. We are building. Be sure if that. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. We are NOT privy to any conversations. Which in reality would also change in a moments notice. It’s how these these are played out. Always have been and always will.

If we do miss out on Moses (don't think we will money talks) it is interesting Herbie Farnworth has not committed to Brisbane yet.
No other halves on the market for 2024 so you would likely go with
1. Farnworth / Welsby / RTS
6. Douihie
7. Brooks
9. Api
Farnworth will be staying in Brisbane. don't be surprised if we don't go after Welsby given the way Bula's come on in the preseason. AD and Laurie will sign 1 year extensions and will back themselves but I don't think either of them are long term options. if I had to guess, the spine next year looks like...

1. Bula
6. Brooks
7. Moses
9. Koroisau
13. Matamua

14. Laurie

That's a great outcome for WTs.

Man, usually our "next year" talk doesn't start till at least 4 rounds in...

Is there any chance George Williams would be worth looking at?
I remember reading that article last year where he stated that he wants to play in NRL again and is prepared to stay this time.

I'm pretty sure that was the thinking in 2017 with the big 4 and Ivan/Pascoe completely stuffed that up.

Sheens got the club to a wooden spoon last year and we are in no position to withdraw our offer, especially when there are no other $1M halves on the market.
I doubt Sheens got us the spoon, the side was shot a long time ago. Judge the coaching in 6 mths.
To get in the top 8 you need a minimum of 13 quality players, we are nowhere near that target. It will take at least 2 yrs to get the roster in shape.

I've said this before but we were 13th when Madge was sacked, and we finished 4 points below the second last team. Releasing Luciano, Mikaele, Nofa as well as moving Hastings from 7 all contributed to getting the spoon. If we were a possibility of getting the spoon with Maguire, we made certain of it with Sheens' decisions.

Anyway, my point was when you've run a distant last the previous year, it doesn't put you in a strong negotiating position.

It's like the ugliest guy chatting up the hottest girl at the bar. She won't bat an eyelid if you give her an ultimatum.

started earlier last year with Api and Papali'i signing in November and December 2021. just spitballing on what I think happens, but who knows.
Was just joking mate. I think you're spot on with the rebuild. If we can hold onto AD and Laurie next year and acquire Moses, we're going to have great depth.

AD in the centres would give us some great attacking options.

It is disingenuous to state Sheens did not get us the spoon.
As the head honcho of the football department he sacked our entrenched coach, who had prepared the squad all off season, mid year. He then engaged in a highly publicised chase for Ciraldo which ended in tears, that I’m sure emboldened the entire squad to believe in the joint. This was further strengthened by his failure to find a suitable coach for the one he had sacked, so he took the job himself with a caveat that an uber extreme greenhorn would be prepared to take over from him in 2025. Whilst all of this was going on, he installed another greenhorn as our interim coach and not only provided little support, but he threw him to the wolves by letting healthy players walk out of their contracts and loaning others to rival clubs, during one of our worst injury hit seasons in history.

Not his fault my arse mate. He was the culprit.

Have heard plenty of coaches talk up young blokes. Believe it when I see it.
That's fair enough coming from a fan, but it's pretty clear the only way the club is going to get out of this mess is to identify and prioritise talent early. That means no more losing players like Addo-Carr and Papenhuysen because their path to first grade is blocked by older players who are either no good or not going to hang around.

It's very easy to be painted as pro or anti this guy or that, I agree with you but I'll add 3 things:

1. Madge should have been fired end of 21
2. 3/4 weeks the squad at least tried under Madge, we may have got the spoon, but I really doubt we would have had 70 put on us which is the type of humiliation that honestly hurts just as much as just being the worst team in a given year.
3. I blame Sheens for most of what happened in 2012 and immediately after, it put us on a trajectory that didn't have a serious inflection until Cleary joined. I also agree with you that last year is his spoon. On this year - I hope he has a crazy professor moment or 2 and I've come around to supporting the coaching set up for now, because honestly if I don't try and be positive my fan status will be the next thing I revoke (already cancelled membership). I'm not trying to be dramatic, but this is the only time of the year we can be hopeful most seasons so I think I'll enjoy it while it lasts haha.

In short, If WT were my wife we'd be divorced for sure.
