Adam Doueihi #227

1 year extension

Interesting.
Fullback? Also interesting

Think it’s great he is extended before season starts. 1yr is interesting as well. Indicates they know something else is happening.

It Moses does come will be very interesting if Sheens moves AD to fullback this year if that’s his plan especially if Laurie starts the season on fire.

I don’t mind him there, was very impressed with him at the Bunnies at the back.

I'm open minded

The Wests Tigers are on the verge of striking a significant blow on the eve of their season opener as Adam Doueihi prepares to ink a one-year extension with the club.

News Corp understands that Doueihi’s retention until the end of 2024 is expected to be confirmed within days, maintaining the feel-good momentum at the Tigers in recent months.

Head coach Tim Sheens and his assistants Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah have been doing everything in their power to revive the spirits at the joint venture, which has struggled to produce results in recent seasons.

Doueihi’s decision to stay is testament to that work. Only a matter of weeks ago, Doueihi spoke about how much he was enjoying the vibe at the club under Sheens, Marshall and Farah as the trio devote the majority of the pre-season to working on the Tigers’ attack.
Doueihi is set to remain a focal point of that attack for at least this season and next as he commits his future to the club.

With Doueihi now under lock and key for the immediate future, the Tigers can switch their attention to other key members of their spine – Daine Laurie, Charlie Staines and Luke Brooks.

All three are off contract at the end of the season and the club is playing a patient game with the trio as they wait to see whether they have struck pay dirt in their pursuit of Parramatta star and former Tigers half Mitchell Moses.

Moses is expected to make a decision as early as next week as he weighs up whether to take a mega-offer from the Tigers or a lucrative deal to remain at Parramatta.
Tigers officials have been quietly confident about securing Moses and the Eels star is expected to put both sides out of their misery within days.

Moses’ potential arrival will have ramifications for Doueihi. The expectation is that if Moses decides to rejoin his former club and the Tigers also decide to extend Brooks, Doueihi will switch to fullback.

Regardless, Doueihi will continue to be part of the Tigers’ future given his decision to accept a one-year extension.
Moses is definitely gone if this is true

12 months is good - keeps him locked up and with something to prove if he wants more. Gives up depth if MM arrives. I don't see him as a FB option - he is a centre - he just doesn't know it!

It just buys the tigers a place holder if/when Moses doesn’t come. And if Isaac steers Brooks elsewhere if we don’t meet his (apparently) ridiculous demands for the length of Brooks’ new contract.

$2 million is a lot of money to leave on the table for Moses. I think Parra's premiership window has closed and we're not a basket case anymore so I wouldn't be surprised if he does sign with us.

He’s not necessarily leaving $2m on the table if he stays at the eels. He’s leaving $2m of guaranteed money in the salary cap on the table. We don’t know what he may or may not have been promised off the books (not guaranteed though, Mark Gasnier went overseas when his illegal payments didn’t come through). Plus he could still get another contract for the additional year we have offered compared to the eels. He could sign for this in a few years.

Wouldn't that be interesting....

🤔

We havnt played a game yet. Don't rush the 'we are not a basket case' too soon. Until we win couple of games in a row we still are a basket case 😂🤔
True mate not gonna argue with that 🤣 Gotta be optimistic though I don't see us leaking as many points as last year and we're working on our attack. We have experienced players like Api and Klemmer now we just need some of the young guys to have a break out season.

he was good in that semi final for souths at fullback .

if Moses doesn't sign then Brooks has no demands at present it is leverage for Isaac, you watch if Moses doesn't sign Brooks will take a lesser amount as his options are limited in Sydney clubs

Centre is such a boring position I can see why he doesn't want to be a centre.

Wouldn't count out being able to develop him into something mote that a centre

I hope he surprises me - I truly do - but I haven't seen anything in him that makes me think he will become a quality 5/8. His kicking is average, he is slow (in 5/8 terms), defence is below par, and his attitude is as variable as the wind. At centre he can be dragged into the game, hit the ball at the advantage line and use his speed and strength to bend or break the line.

I see a top quality centre written all over him, can't say I see a 1 or 6 on his back though.

As I said I hope he surprises me!

Injury history2021 – partial left ACL tear (reconstruction surgery, round 1 is 6 months post surgery), concussion, knee issue2019 – concussion2018 – left ACL/meniscus injury + reconstruction
2023 expectationsFrom a performance standpoint – all aboard the Doueihi bus for 2023. Provided the Tigers don’t do something crazy and start him in the centres the prospects are fantastic for Doueihi to improve this season (his 2nd back from an ACL reconstruction) – my injury buy of 2023.
Being Doueihi’s 2nd ACL to his left knee the Tigers took their time with his return to play, and it showed with it only taking 4 weeks for him to start dropping starring performances and big SC scores. Now in saying that there was still a mini build up in both minutes and performance, averaging just 26ppg over his first 3 games and 43ppg over his first 5. But his final 8 game stretch of a 72ppg average is incredibly impressive coming back from a 2nd ACL injury at a young age, and I think is almost the base expectation you can have for Doueihi in 2023.
The same re-injury risk that exists for Blore has to be mentioned here for Doueihi – historically 24% of NRL players who have suffered 2 ACL injuries go on to suffer a 3rd, with most occurring in the first 18 months post return to play. Doueihi will be just over 18 months post ACL injury when the season kicks off, so hopefully a full offseason has helped significantly reduce his risk of recurrence.
The benefit here is the slow start on his return in 2022 did cheapen his price – with a season average of 59 more than 10ppg less than that final 8 game stretch. Add in the Tigers hopefully improving after some recruitment and a Burton/Doueihi 5-8 combo has been an easy pick for me in SC Classic. Draft wise I’d be as bold as to take him in the late first round (all provided he’s the starting five eighth)

Fantasy Football has nothing to do with reality - he will be in my SC team for a short term cash cow but I expect I will trade him for better quality down the track.
