You're exactly right - All I mentioned is only half the job.

Ken is awesome when it comes to digging in deep and taking those early hitups (and I think Nofoaluma isn't bad either to be fair?), but he's a 'not-walking' medical retirement unfortunately.

Staines doesn't strike me as the gritty type, but I'll judge him on merit rather than assume because I haven't really seen enough to say. Sure hope he is though!

I think that part of his game improved massively last year, it’s part of the reason why he was dropped in 21 but everytime he played for Penrith last season he averaged over 120m.
 
Isn't it great to look at the team and think "you know, that's not a bad team..."?

The last few years I've looked at the squad and there was no doubt in my mind it was very poor. This year we have very viable options not making the round 1 team - most encouraging is almost all of them are young and signed.

Forwards, backs and bench I think are well stocked, competitive and have depth.

Only time will tell, but at this stage the positions concerning me are 1, 6 and 7: 3/4 of the spine! 😳
 
Pretty excited for this week and that forward pack is so much better this year..

Does anyone know if the game is sold out this week ?

Fonua might bring some to an extent, But he's still a smallish rookie....

With those 17 Players, I'd probably start Fonua at 13... And Start Twal in FR.
With Joffa and Stef coming off the bench.
Fonua coming on at 13, Moving Twal and Joffa (Already on) to prop...
Isn't really going to give us a change of tempo after the first 25....

Ideally, Bateman takes Blore or the 13 spot, And that will give us either Joffa fresh off the Bench....
Or Blore (Who can play edge and Middle) and probably has a bit more leg speed
in him than Twal and Joffa....

We really need to get at least 2 of these 3 games done first up....
Sets us up Rolling into the Storm, Easter and Origin.

I do know how that usually pans out though....

In a perfect world this starting forward pack wins the early battle like we haven’t done much of in the past and we make interchanges from a position of strength in the game. I think we are very used to getting behind and chasing points and needing our bench to come on and improve us rather than just do a job. hopefully that’s not the trend anymore.

A lot of talk about API’s deception in his game and getting players off him to play square. That’s something I hope we have practiced a lot as it relies on everyone being in sync. Again I think lots of improvement to watch for over the next 4-8 weeks.

You know what Eca,Im really looking forward to the opening game,only because we have great experience and keen young guns ready to perform...the only thing I will say is if they lose to a better team in the Titans I will put it down to them not gelling completely yet...this is a tough game played by tough men,however they all have to learn about each others calls and be on the same page for 80 mins,it may take a couple of weeks,but man when they do get it together they will deflate a lot of the popular teams...stay strong in the support of our team mate...
